A Pollyanna Home

Some of my favorite sayings to the kids.

I was reading a few blogs on how yours kids say the darnest things. Well mine like to remind me some of mine when I a frazzled about a few things. Here is a few. This one when they mistreat something. "When you pay the mortgage you can do what you want." Its even funny when the kids say it before you do. This is one is for when we loose something I ask the kids "Have you prayed to St. Anthony." Patron saint for lost articles. Of course when I am looking for something they get smug "Did you pray to St. Anthony?" I do say it under my breath. This one is a combination when they are misbehaving. "Are you listening to your Guardian Angel? or Which Commandant are you breaking?" Now most of the time they can answer me and are right. I love how the Lord plays a big part in my families life.

The Pollyanna changelle.

Ok can any one tell me what the Glad/Happy texts are in the Bible? Ktnies & I were looking them up today. Psalms has 150. I figured The Book of Wisdom are it but I only counted 313. So can anyone else come up with the rest. Play the Glad game.

I got sick last night.

How gut wrenching. I have to throw up. I wouldn't make a very good bulimia. I guess it is one of those Pollyanna days. I didn't have to go help sand in the shop. Not that I didn't feel guilty though. But hubby & ds 18 handled it just fine without me. Dd 12 & ds 10 handled the inside just fine too. They handled school work well even though ds probly enjoyed today. I was giving him the anwers on some problems. He couldn't help but laugh. DD made dinner too. She followed the reciept to Hay & Straw which is pasta, ham, brocclic & cream soup together. Other them a lack of some salt the boys told her it was good. She was amazed at how easy it was. In her words "thats it?" After sleeping & going to the bathroom we watched Pollyanna again. We were paying attention to the cars & some mordern convices in the movie & the moral value. Dd also sorted out Girlscout cookies. She has been getting into the Egypitian lesson in history this month. She found information on King Tut & his wife. Oh and today of all things the two kids experimented w/ plastic bag, blow dryer, string & a GI Joe doll. It didn't work but they worked on it for 30 mins. I didn't quite catch all they were saying but I was happy they took matters into their own hands. They are old enough to know not to burn the house down w/out permission.

A good day.

Today is my cleanning the kitchen day & hubby/my laundry. I managed to get school done in the a.m. w/kids. Hubby needed to make trip to deliver millwork so I went with. I wasn't suppose to but when he comes with the puppy face & "You don't have to if you don't want to" how can I not help. It goes faster w/2 people. Came home by 2. I started on the kitchen right away. It was the usuall surface cleanning but I included a cabinet. I start at the top work my way around & go to the bottom. I clean one cupboard every Monday. This helps keep up with things. Instead of going all out and empty everything I take one at a time. This is less stressful. The house is just as clean.

Blogging world.

I have been debating if this blog was the right one for me. Even though I homeschool my children there are other issues that I consider not related to homeschooling. But has I rethink of them they do fit into our families lives. This is what schooling is about. We don't have anything unsual happening here but it can be adventours. I have changed a few things on my blog and has I get better at it you will probly see more. It takes me awhile to figure things out. So if you want to hear a earfull of the whys, whats & wheres stay tuned. I might blog every day, through out the week or once a week. I fit things in when I can. I have been homeschooling for 7 years now & its time I share some of my life. It might get boring or exciting it depends how you look at it. What I do want is for others to feel O.K. I have done that or I'll try that. Something for others to feel that they are not alone and they can do what they feel in their hearts. God Bless on your journey to family life.

Blog Party!

OK every blog I have been going to is at the party. Now I know what it is that we are suppose to say. We are to say HELLO and tell you who I am. Well here it goes. I am going to be 40 this May and don't feel old age creepy up on me. I have been been married for 13 years to a pretty wonderful husband but has his down falls. I won't get into it because I'm not perfect either but he can drive me nuts. God really gives us our trails. I have 4 children & 2 in Heaven. 2 each with 2 grandchildren 1 each w/one on the way. We live on 40 acreas in Central MN. We have lived here for 2 1/2 years and updating our home. I have been homeschooling for 7 years now and love it. I consider myself a stay at home mom even though I help my hubby w/his business, prefinishing & painting. I am a Catholic and learning something new every day. I am a simple woman. I would fit into The Walton's sence. I love the house, dresses, atmosphere & home town goodness. I am improving on my skills in gardening, sewing and any thing that has to raising my family. I have a Pollyanna attitude.

Dear Daughter 12

Well there a few things about my 3rd born this week that I learned. 1st today was here dance competion for Just for Kix. Her team won 1st place. There were 5 groups to compete against. There were 2 1st place winners. So this was exciting for us. This is the 2nd time her class won 1st place. 2nd if she repeats to much of her textbook work she gets bored with it and does poorly on it. She is doing Easy Grammar Plus and starts out fine but oh my goodness the rest is horable. We agreed that once is enough. She likes to write stories and does fine but needs to watch her spelling. 3rd she takes responsiblity for her assignments and does them on her own. What a blessing this is. I'm not sure when this happened though. I think it started last year. But this is every mothers dream for her children to do their school work on their own. She even corrects her assignments when she is done. Yes I trust my children to take the teachers manual and correct their own work. They have to show how they got the problem. So copying the answer just doesn't jive in this house/school. Now if I can get her to love cooking.

Schooling this week

was pretty much the same. The kids did their usuall textbook & other assignments. While I was helping hubby in the shop dd & ds got adventureous. DD has a digtal caremra w/movie feature. They made videos & used ds toys to make the movie. They were laughing up a storm. The movie was stupid but they had fun. I did think it was creative of their time. The t.v. has been off most of the day for lent but we have been watching the weather. Plenty of snow here. But they have been finding things to do. Dh likes to break the rules and turn it on in the evening so we try to be selective. I think we will keep this t.v. schedule up.

Frugal Fridays

I didn't have a funnel big enough one day so I made one from a pop bottle. I just cut in the middle and I had a funnel. You could use a plastic juice bottle too. Depending on the bottle also the hole is bigger.

Are public schools that stupid or greedy??

Here MN we knew the snow was coming. All you had to do is wake up and see all the snow. Most schools closed but guess what some of them still had school open but sent the kids home early. What are they thinking? How hazzardous do they think it wouldn't get taking the kids home? Dudda! Did they not think the roads wouldn't get icy, drifty & poot visiblity? Is the money that important to risk the lives of our children? NOOOO! I think these people need to go back to science class.

Its going out like a lion in MN!!!

Spring may come early but old man winter isn't ready to go w/out a figth. It is so beautiful. We can hardly see across the road. This is like the days when I was growing up. Does anyone remeber them?? We lived on a farm and dad would take the tactor w/bucket & pile up the snow. We would take feed stacks or the shovel & go sledding. I remeber cutting up wood in the pasture for the stove. We would bundle up crawl on the wagon & get a load. It reminds me of pictures we see at Mills Fleet. Beautiful!!

I was disappointed last night.

I went to help in the shop yesterday. I gave some chores for DS&D to do. Had to go into town for stain that didn't match. This took awhile so we were gone 2-3 hours. But I came home and things weren't done. I was so mad. They are old enough to help take care of things. Usually I would help them clean but last night I didn't. I made them do it themselves. Mostly ds didn't do his chores. He likes to stall. This didn't make a whole lot of sense to me because normally I can work side by side with them and they do a good job and know what to do. Just because I was gone shouldn't have made a diff. It's not like the house was a complete disaster it was daily maintance. I had a little talk w/them about it too. I reminded them they made up the chore list and when they were to get it done. I love the fact they are taking responsiblity in this matter. It was just a matter of them being lazy & thoughtless. They are to young to work in the shop but I do expect teamwork in the house. We all live in here. With lots of prayers I hope it goes better. I guess this goes to show how it is important a womans job at home. For the children to function in a organized atomshere. In our house things can be found & by 7:00 p.m. we can relax and enjoy our time doing fun things. We still had time after the cleanning was taking care of we played a game of cards. I strongly believe that when things are in order things run smoothly even when emergancy come up. My house isn't perfect and you can't eat off the floors but when you walk in you feel welcome. At the moment my Christmas present is being done, bedroom makeover, and hubby & I are sleeping in the livingroom on an air mattress but things are still pretty clean. I have decided to blog alittle about how I keep my home. I feel this is important to homeschoolers because we have alot going on. I hope that what I do helps you in your day. Our family is also updating our home of 2 1/2 years so I plan on showing pic. on the progress. We have a small home w/3 children living here. With some families now a days they think they need this big 2 story house to handle these children. We are planning on having more children, with Gods blessing, so we will need to accomdate to the sitution. When h&w are open to life has God calls it we have to be ready to adjust. We can't always sell the house & buy a bigger one. So God be w/you today.

Where has Feb. gone?

It just seemed that we miss a month. I know Feb is a short month but does it mean short on time. It feels like I no sooner paid a bill and they are coming again. Or I can't keep up with the household chores the day is gone. I thought it was one day and here it was another. I'm not ready for spring yet. We finially got snow here in MN and everyone is talking about an early spring. It is going out like a lion this year. Even my mood is short. I was getting fustrauted w/hubby and didn't handle it very well I started crying. I know he needed to hear how I was feeling but not that way. He needs a good shot of Pollyanna. I am tired of all the negtive. And we have had some pretty darn good laughs here too. There is a better way to tell some one that you don't like something without yelling or crising. I really hope March is going to be better.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I love snowy days in my warm house. It gets you in the baking mood or reading or sewing I think you get the picture. But dear hubby has diff plans for me today. He loves this weather too. But he likes driving in this stuff. So he decides to test drive a 2005 chev. diseal truck. We have been talking about upgrading our vehicles because ours is getting up there in years. Thats right, we were driving out in this weather. We meant a contractor to talk business. Now he wants us to go get the grandkids. Dgd misses us. Life around here is never boring. God bless us all.

I was just thinking

and its early to be doing that, I loose a lot of sleep that way, but ds (10) managed to do his school work w/out me. I asked him how he did that one. Oh I was in a good mood and wanted to get done. I told him it should be that way all the time. That it wasn't fair to mom who has to do other things. It amazes me that when he is in a foul mood he can't concentrate. But in a good mood he even knows how to read. Today will be a school day. They will be doing their bookwork & hopefull finish the movies for history. DD(12) has to bake a Swedish dessert for girlscouts. It's thinking day Sat. Later on tonight is stations of the cross. Alot to do. With Gods Graces we will get them done.

Day 2 w/out t.v,

It went pretty well. Dh & s went to Little Falls to work on site today. I had a few things to do in the big town of Foley so we did that right away. About an hours worth of time. It was a beautiful sunny day for a drive. The kids did the usuall assignments in their workbooks. Had dinner & they went outside. I cleaned up & rested for awhile. I haven't been sleeping very well. I was listening to their laughter. They were brushing & teaching the dog new tricks, who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks hasn't meant beezer. He's 70. They also played w/the cats & ball. I cleanned the suv & garage a little. After that we came in about 3:00 and read from the Grandma's Attic series. It's the last book & I am sad. It is so good. The author really did an awesome job of writing about her grandmother. At times it is real funny. We have been laughing through this book. You should have heard about the green beans & brick dust. It is a must read for group out louds. We also sat and planned some menus for the next 2 weeks. Every one is scattered doing their own thing which is the computer right now.

I have some time to kill

so I though I'd join you all. The kids did well in their lessons today. The usual assignments in math, spelling & grammar. Watched movies on Stonehendge & Egypt. DD had drawing class. Today the kids & I talked about redoing our chore charts. They did pretty good on who was to do what at what time. We decided to do this because older ds(18) is taking on more work in the shop. Basically working for dear dad. He might as well we need the help and he needs the work. We gave him a break on living with us because it is hard finding dependable workers. All in all we are treating him as if he isn't living here because he could move out. But we do have him do somethings around the yard. Just like dad punching a clock doesn't mean there isn't a home to care for. Any way it was a good day. I got most of the paperwork done too. Working on a budget is hard when you never know when contractors are going to pay you. I depend on the good Lord for that. Today is the first day of Lent. As a family we gave up t.v. It went pretty well. The t.v. is off most of the day anyhow but at night is when it gets turned on. The weekends will be our time to watch shows. I want to be more selective with the programs that we watch. This isn't easy we don't even have cable. We like the old show. I think the one who is going to have the hardest time not watching t.v. is dhubby. He claims he doesn't watch much t.v. We will see. Good night and God Bless

WFMW

I don't like to use a lot of chemicals to clean my house but when there is a need for a job well done I like to stick to it. My oven/stove needed help. The pervious owner didn't clean this house very well. We have been here for 2 1/2 years now & I couldn't get that oven/stove clean. I have a gas range. The grates on top were black & they are suppose to be gray. My repair guy advised me not to use the self-cleanning on the range it is hard on the it. I took the easy off oven cleaner in the blue can no fumes. Sprayed the grates & put them into a plastic bag over night. Clean in a.m. This worked pretty well. I also cleanned the oven. The point is there was no fumes. It is winter now so the windows are closed. The easy off oven cleanner w/no fumes does work. I will be using this again for the extra touch job.
