I've been busy with life and work lately. So much so that I haven't' had time to post here. The Friday after Thanksgiving I received a letter from the PS requesting again for the 4th time that I send in my letter of intent to Home School, which I have done three times previously. I was so frustrated and feeling so hassled that I've decided to join an umbrella school. I just got off the phone with them and I feel so relieved and lighter already. I'll be mailing ,u fees and info next week. Jimbo has been sick for a week and hasn't been able to do many lessons. He is slowly on the mend. He must have had a stomach bug and the flu from what I can tell. He ran a fever for a couple of days then add the stomach problems. Oh well, next week is a new start..... it will be a cold one.............but a new one.

The last NASCAR race of the year is coming to an end. What will I watch on the weekends until January? My son's favorite driver will be the Champion. Being the good mom that I am I will congratulate him even though I do not like this driver or his team.
I've been enjoying the day alone making my Christmas cards, laundry, general cleaning and having an overall relaxing day. I had to quit my one part-time job, I was working there 6 nights a week and not getting home until between 10:20 and 11:20. The work was physically too much for me and I was exhausted. I'll be working more hours each week at my other part-time job.. which is the one that I just love. It's working in a Coffee and Smoothie Café. Jimbo is doing real well with his lessons. I've also had him doing quite a bit of review one day a week just to make sure he was learning. |
|
We've gotten a bit behind. I've had to return to work, two part-time jobs. I usually work everyday, some weeks I may get a day off on the same day from both of them. Jimbo is keeping up with all of his subjects except for math, that's the main one he needs me for. I've been trying to slowly get his caught up. We have gotten through both Halloween and Jimbo's 12th birthday. Now we are on to Thanksgiving and my Dh's birthday.. then of course Christmas. We usually take off the month of December, but since I am working I think we will do lessons part-time. I'm still very happy with S.O.S. I do plan on sticking with this curriculum for the rest of his education.
Happy Fall... |

One more week has come to an end. Quite a bit has changed around here at home. I went back to work part-time two weeks ago. I've also found a lump and I've been in some pain. I am schedule for a diagnostic mammogram and sonogram next week. It figures doesn't it. Find a job where they are willing to let you work your schedule and something else comes up. They've been really good about it. Jimbo has been doing a great job with his lessons. We go over them each morning before I leave for work. If he runs into a problem that he can't figure out we work on it when I get home. I will still say that I am thrilled that we are using SOS this year. I can see us using it for the rest of his education.

I went back to work this week. It's real close to home and I work M-F 11-4 which is such a good thing. I tell you this because today was Jimbo's first day to Homeschool without me here. We went over his lessons for the day before I left for work. I told him that if he didn't understand something to wait until I got home and I would help him. He didn't need to wait... he did very well on his own. One more reason why I love SOS. |
|
We discussed and read a few items. I didn't want to have Jimbo watch too much and the TV was overwhelmed with it. We did watch Glenn Beck on CNN at 9:00pm and learned more about the U.S. New York. We both enjoyed watching it. Then on to Anderson Cooper 360 which took a different perspective. His show was live in Afghanistan. Once again we learned a few new things. Today was school as usual and pretty much a good day. |

I am having a bit of free time, waiting for the race to start tonight in Richmond and also waiting on the burgers to finish on the grill. I thought I would share this with you.
I am a member, actually an assistant manager in a wonderful Homeschool MSN group. http://groups.msn.com/HomeschoolCentral/yourwebpage3.msnw We have a wonderful bunch of homeschooling moms who offer so much to each other. They have recently shared two wonderful sites. 1. is Writing Tips 2. is Rader's CHEM4Kids I highly recommend that you take the time to check both of them out. I believe that I mentioned in the last post that we took last week off. Both of us can't wait to get back to lessons on Monday. I hope everyone has enjoyed a pleasant weekend so far.Enjoy your Sunday too. |

We were ht by Ernesto Friday. It was raining and windy at 6:00 am so I really am not sure what time it started. We lost power about 4pm Friday afternoon and it was restored around 5pm Saturday. It rained and was extremely windy all day. I believe that the steady winds were near 35 mph all day with gusts of 65 - 80 throughout the day and night. I hope anyone else that was in Ernesto's path are safe and sound. Of course Monday (tomorrow) is a holiday, we have no plans other than to pick up around the yard some more. Enjoy your Holiday and stay safe. |

At least a partial one, Jimbo did complete a couple of lessons today before going back to bed. It is so miserable here today. It's 4:00 and it's still 95* outside. We are in for a few thunderstorms tonight and Ernesto will wreak havoc here with us Thursday through Saturday. We need rain, but not quite this severe. Oh well..... enough of my ramblings. Stay safe friends. |

And we slept in. Jimbo was up sick most of the night, I think we finally fell a sleep around 3:00 this morning. It must be a summer cold, achy, stuffy, sore throat and ears. He took a dose of Nyquil and it took a while before it started working. I didn’t have the heart to make him do his lessons today poor baby. So I did a bit of house work, planned and prepared dinner and spent some time on the computer. I’m off to bed now. |
|
But for us it is the end of the week. My DH gets every other Friday off from his job so I promised Jimbo that he would also. Tomorrow they are going fishing and crabbing early in the morning. I have some good news to share also. Back in May Jimbo and his father went to Darlington Raceway to watch a NASCAR race. In the stands they were sitting with Jeff Burton's brother Brian, his wife, and their Mother. Brian promised Jimbo an autograph picture. It came today, but not only the picture he also send two decals and a "soda" huggie. Jimbo is thrilled beyond belief.
Have a great weekend Pals.

I am so very proud of my son. Let me explain. I have back and neck problems and I am waiting for the State to either approve or not my disability. My doctor says that I am not capable of working or cleaning the house... get a maid she says... Well that won't happen in this lifetime I am sure. Anyway yesterday was a normal day. A couple loads of laundry, make the beds, empty the dishwasher, prepare and eat lunch with our daily lessons going on at the same time. Lo and behold by 3:30 I couldn't move... I have had problems since 1996, but I have never felt such pain as I am in now. I have never understood the comment "My back is out" either until yesterday and not only do I understand I say........"My back is out" I'm not capable of being in one position for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time. But I wanted to share about my son. He not only helped me last night be cleaning up after the dinner that his Father prepared, but took care of me. The only place that I could get comfortable was on our short love seat. My special boy was so worried about me that he slept on the couch to make sure he was there for me in case I needed something. He got up this morning, made him something to eat and started and completed his lessons before I was even awake. I know that 11 years of age some people expect this of their children. I for one like my children to be young and have fun for as long as possible. Yet My joy in him this day was worth sharing. I hope that this hasn't been a severe rambling....remember the name of my blog? Barbi If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person |

Enough from me on this day. Back to the love seat and my pain meds. have a wonderful evening.
