Thanks for sharing this post. Thoughtfully written by a man who has been though a lot! Makes me thankful for what God has given me and my family. When my 8 yo was born with a cleft lip, we thought it was the end of the world but we have learned over the years that his surgery as an infant was nothing compared to what some families have to live through. Thanks again. By the way, can you fill us in on Nora Batty's claim to fame? Just curious! She looks like the neighbor you wouldn't want to mess with!

Good to hear from you again. Thanks for pointing out this blogg to us all. It is a great reminder to get some perspective! Our 'little' problems can seem to take over until you realize that you don't really have any problems at all!

Wow. This hit home for me because I have a cousin that had her baby boy the month before I had Kaitlyn...and when he and Kaitlyn were two years old, the little boy fell into a lake and nearly drowned. He suffered severe brain damage, and has been in a wheelchair ever since, not able to do anything for himself. I've often wondered how a family would handle something like that...and been sad that my cousin lived out of state so that I couldn't be of more help. Thanks for posting that!
Also...your comments need to come with some kind of warning so that I do not spit Coke in the vacinity of my monitor when I read them. You had me howling over poor Monty...but Kaitlyn, my animal lover, was devastated that I thought it was funny. I think I've scarred her for life. :o)

Thank you for the link. Our first daughter, who would now be 20, died of SIDS when she was 3 months old - his comment that we worry about so many things that don't happen while real life blind-sides us, really hit home for me. Never did I expect any of my children to go "Home" before me.
On a brighter note...I LOVED the pictures of your boys! AND...I LOVE YOUR NEW PICTURE!! Just lovely...as I KNEW you were. One of these days I'll figure out how to post pics on my blog and share my sweet family with the world. Until then, you can see my sweet 18 year old daughter, Jasper, at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/homeschoolinvballer Unfortunately, she's abandoned this blog for another one, but you can see her picture. The little boy she's holding is our god-son.

Yes, it definitely helps to see our problems in perspective... he speaks with such wisdom and insight... very hard won wisdom and insight. I also relate to buckeyeblog... I had a son who only lived 3 days due to a kidney problem that presented itself in the last weeks of the pregnancy... until then all seemed well and it was quite shocking to have things turn so bad so quickly... lots of specialists and dire predictions, then pronouncements that all was well, followed by more bad predictions as Doctors tried to figure out what was wrong while he was still unborn.

Wow! Thanks for the perspective. I feel like I need to print that out and read it about once a month!

Thanks for the link it was a good read. My worst fear would be one of my boys (who seem to have no fear) become majorly injured or die due to some accident. the worst part is that I have no control (aack there I said it lol). All I can do is pray for protection and their salvation...
I love the pics of your kids :) Quite a handsome brood, I love that curly hair on the little one :)

When our girls were little, at one point my hubby and I were running between three different hospitals to visit them. At the same time, a friend of ours had her little one in hospital for a liver transplant. With each visit I received came the inevitable comment that 'well at least your child isn't suffering like........'s child'. I was merciless and often replied, 'I don't know. Dead is dead no matter how you get there.' (we had just had the doctor tell us to plan for our youngest one's funeral--she did live and is going strong now--but at the time we didn't know that would happen). Later, I found out that my friend was hearing the same "condolences". And these were from fellow believers. It is nice to read a post from someone who has been able to write down some of those experiences. And it's also nice to find out how many people are learning that sometimes words are more of a burden than anything. Sometimes a quiet prayer and a big hug means so much more. God bless and thanks for posting this.
