Hey bloggers,
There's a lot of things that we take for granted in life.
As ya'll know and I have reminded you of several times, my Daddy is on a mission trip to Guatemala. Today while he was there, he met with a man named Carlos who says that he has a list of people that he wants to help, and that he spends all of his money on. He took my Dad to the house of a women with several young children. The husband had left them, alone and deserted, with a shack to live in and no money. Carlos spent all his money and time building the poor family a house, since everyone had seemed to forget them. Before this, the young children even had to hike down a mountain just to bring water up to there shack. Now they were so pleased to have a house the size of our bathroom. The women makes necklaces from nuts for a living but cannot afford a drill to make holes in the nuts, so by pushing needles through them her hands are all cut and bedraggled.
Plus, another heartbreaking thing is that through there hardship, this women wants to help the poor with a small room in her tiny house. If only she had enough food, she says, so that she could help other poor. Ain't that sad?
Those are some of the things that we take for granted. We take for granted water, a roof over our head, decent clothes and something much more. God, who will take care of us.
That's what Christmas is all about. Not presents, not reindeer with red light up nose, and no fat dudes dressed in red-no it's about helping people. With God's blessing, hopefully Daddy will be able to help this poor women and the other's on Carlos List. As he said, it should just make us happy to help one person-even if it means giving up something we want.
Taken for Granted. Think about it.
