A Bone Girl's Writings

Sep. 27, 2007 - Shearing and Kids.

We sheared the sheep about a week ago. It was hard to hold him, we sheared Mr. Brown. And Daddy wasn't that good at shearing 'cause it was his first time. It didn't, the fleece didn't come up in one piece and some bits were too short, only some bits were so long that he cut Mr. Brown. We tried spinnin' I'm gettin' better at doin' it. By the way, on the day after we sheared Mr. Brown, Prudence had her kids. She had a boy one and a girl one... they are called Albert and Apricot. We've been milking Prudence and she's been giving DUS-GHUS-TING Milk because she's. been. stressed... It'll get better one day, She gives one 'nd a half litres of milk... she gives three litres a day. But the kids drink one litre. And it's very hard to bottle feed them when we have to do it. But mostly we don't bottle feed them.

Sep. 14, 2007 - We Got Sheep!

We got some new sheep.  They're coloured ones.  They're brown on the outside and grey on the inside.  They're Romneys, except for one, which is Romney crossed with Corriedale.

They're a bit scared of us at the moment, but they're getting a bit more friendly.  The sheep's names are "Corry", "Woolly" and "Mr Brown".  Corry is my sheep; she's the crossed with Corriedale one.  Josiah's one is Mr Brown, and Keziah's is Woolly.  They need to get shorn.  We'll need to learn how to do that.

We're going to get some more sheep; white ones.  But we can't get them now because they're not weaned; they're lambs.

We're going to spin our own wool.  We'll have a lot of knitted and crocheted things.  Corry is the bravest sheep.  She comes closest to people.  I can sometimes pat her and she doesn't mind.

May. 3, 2007 - Buck Stuff

We got a new buck, on the day we got Michaela mated.  His name is Preston.  He's a bit silly when it rains, he doesn't go under shelter.  He used to not like his vegetables, but we taught him to like them.

We got Prudence mated, only we don't know if he did it properly.  She doesn't seem to be pregnant.  When Priscilla comes on heat then we're going to get her mated.  Hopefully he'll do it properly.

We had to put an electric fence up, because he's a good jumper.  He jumped right over the fence!

We've got kids going on heat but we're definitely not going to get them mated.

Mar. 30, 2006 - Tadpole Growing Into a Frog

I got some frogs eggs from one of our dams. I put them in a tank.  When they hatched they were tiny.  They grew and grew. A lot of them died. It looked a bit squishy it was because of all the tadpoles. We got a lot of them out but left in two one disappeared, I do not know what happened to it. But we fed the other one lettuce. One day it grew legs at the back.  It grew front legs as well now it looks just like a frog with a tail, but the tail is very short.

The animated frogs are from http://allaboutfrogs.org/gallery/animations/index.html
