May. 8, 2008 - Container Gardening

My oldest daughter and I  have been wanting to have a 'big' garden for a few years .......  but it seems like something always comes up and gets in the way of our plans. OR we just put it off until too late and we lose the 'head start' and forget it.  OR like last year we planted a few things.  Tomatoes and peppers did well but all else failed ......  do you think it was because we NEVER weeded the thing?!?!  Ha. Ha.

Well, this year we still haven't started the garden.

I am 4 weeks from my due date and can't even fathom dealing with a garden and yet, my children still desire one.  So my husband and I made this offer:  Sierra and Levi will be in charge of the weeding, watering and the harvest .....  but we will all help with building the raised bed and the planting.  We are doing a basic, simple and small raised garden this year and I read that wet newspapers between the plants and around them will stop the weeds .......  we will see.

And I discovered a way to 'be a part' of our food production / gardening process as well.

"Self-contained gardening systems."

Yeh!!  Hip-Hip-Hooray!  This is the coolest concept to me and I found out how to make one 'home-made' and so its at very little cost for me to try it out.  I figure if I put two on my deck then I can carry baby in sling and water and care for these without the weeds!!!!   Without the scorching heat.  All within a few steps of my kitchen!!!!

So in case anyone is interested, and sort-of 'garden illiterate'  (like me), I thought you might want to read these two articles.  It might encourage you as it did me ......  that you might just have the time, energy and 'green thumb' to grow a few things to eat this year -- right off your back deck or just outside your door!

***See below for the two links I printed out and put in a notebook as I teach myself about this type of simple gardening........***

Lord, Bless our hands to be useful in Your service and to learn the things You desire for us to know.  And then to share that knowledge with others.

Thank you for blessing me with children who have a love of learning and who are beginning to ignite a spark within me to love learning new things as well.  Mine, sadly, was puffed out sometime during my 'education.'

Jesus, ignite a passion within myself, Kevin and each of our children to learn and go after all You have willed and purposed for  our lives .....  as a family and as individuals.  Freedom to Be Who You Created Us To Be .......  Free to do What You Designed Us To Do!

~I love you, Lord Jesus.  We welcome You to always be Lord over our family, lives, home and learning experiences.~  Belinda

May. 9, 2008 - THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU

Posted by LivingandLoving

Dear Belinda,
I discovered your blog in the later part of last year. It has only been until recently that I have been able to really get a chance to read over your journaling about your adventure of Unschooling. I can definitly see how this is more to you than just the fact of the idea of homeschooling. It has been such a delight to read at how the Lord has used this area to refine you in so many other areas and to see the picture unfold as you have had to do nothing but to draw closer and closer to Him through it all. I Love his sovereign Hand over our lives! I actually pray that His jelousy for me wil be poured out over me so much that I am drenched it! I have seen His glory in and through me and the lives of others and I have seen the work of the enemy too and I can stand and say - Lord, please what ever you have to do - be jelous for me and let me not stray to anything that is not of you, for you, or not your will for me. His jelousy is for my protection and I love Him for it!

Thank you so much for laying yourself out here in blog world for others to be encouraged - it's not about homeschooling / unschooling, but in everyway, every struggle - your desire to cling to Him in the battle was very encouraging! I pray for you and lift prayers of thanks for you too.

I invite you to come over and read a post of mine called Waiting. I took a little snip-it from one of your comments and expanded on it from the way I know the Lord is moving through my heart. I think you may have to be logged in to view the post.

God bless you!
