Knitting Projects

Posted in Knitting
Thought it was time to share a bit about my knitting.  I like to have several projects going at once in case I get bored or frustrated! ;-)

1)  Here is my progress on my never ending sweater!

The back is done and one side is about 2/3 done.  I've unknit quite a bit lately so this is now at the bottom of my knitting bad!  Bad Yarn!! :-)  I'm starting to worry that it might be too small!  I'm doing my best to ignore that little fear though.

A couple of things I'm learning from this experience - stockinette sweaters are BORING.  Just because the pattern says to knit one thing and then the next...there is no reason I can't knit them both at the same time!  I'm seriously considering the sleeves in magic loop - maybe even two at a time - to speed this up!  I want this done before Christmas!

2)  Here is a cable scarf I found here - the Irish Hiking Scarf - I'm doing it in Black Lion Brand Microspun.  Very Soft!  I'm just knitting in a rib pattern around the neck area so it will hang better.  Wish you could see the detail!

3)  The 2nd baby kimono (from Mason Dixon Knitting book) - this one is in stockinette.  Since I worked on it yesterday when I was coming down with this cold/flu/ickiness I now have to frog about 3 rows...sigh...

4)  I pulled this one out of the drawer - the Lost Points Shawl - I looooove these colors:

5) Finally, even though I am sick today - my friend Ruth asked to use my washing machine to felt her bag.  I decided the worse thing to happen wasn't going to be as bad as never felting the
two I had done.  So here is our results -

Mine are the two in back - the purple one turned out so nice that I think I'm going to give it to my niece - I hope she likes it because I really want to keep it!

Oct. 6, 2006 - What about Socks?

Posted by SheilaG
I love the bags! I've always wanted to felt. I'll have to try soon.

Have you ever tried socks? I always have a pair on the go, because they're great for car trips.

I know what you mean about stockinette stitch, but somehow I don't mind with socks because it's in the round and you can buy so many interesting yarns now.

Socks fit in my purse, so when we're driving somewhere, waiting at a doctor's office, sitting watching my kids play soccer, even standing in line at the grocery store, I can knit a bit. It's amazing how fast they'll do up, even on small needles.

I'm still trying to convince my pastor to let us bring our knitting out during sermons, because I would pay attention better if my hands were busy, but he isn't buying it yet....

I have always wanted to knit, but I've always been tension challenged. I love the shiny bamboo yarn you've used, it really adds something special!

Oct. 14, 2006 - Great blog!

I've had a lot of fun reading your blog today. I'm a knitter, too, and just love the Mason-Dixon book. I made one of their washcloths and want to try some of the bigger projects. Re: the bamboo yarn. I have a pattern for the most beautiful shawl ever, using that yarn. It uses a very detailed pattern, though, and with all the interruptions in my life, it's hard to keep track of every stitch. I've been knitting for quite a while but have yet to make a pair of socks. I bought some very nice wool yarn several months ago, but so far, no socks.

One pattern book that has some lovely kid projects is Dalebarn. Dale of Norway is the company, and they make yarn as well as the patterns. I love to knit for my kids because they look good in everything and the projects are small!

I'll add you to my list of friends so I'll remember to check out your blog in the future.

I don't have anyone to teach me and learning crochet by myself is hard enough! I created this blog card today and I just want to try it out while I'm here.

Amy - It's been a long time since I've seen or talked to you. I love your blog, and I can't believe how big your boys are!!! Please know that whenever you come to mind, I pray for you and Eric. I hope that you are being comforted by God each and every day.

Those knitting projects look BEAUTIFUL! Jordan is the knitter in our family, and she is starting on a new project for her Keepers At Home book. I always hope her latest project will be for me :)

About Me

Day by Day....we strive to learn together, love each other and have some fun. Day By Day.... we strive to raise our boys to be knights and warriors for the Lord. Some days it's a struggle...

Cast of Charaters

Me - I like to read and knit. I've been a Christian for many years and loving learning about God and seeing the Lord work in our lives! I also post on my other blog, "Journaling Back To Joy"
DH - Is a theologically trained teacher of 4th graders at a Christian school. He loves astronomy, LOTR and playing with the kids! He is the funniest man I know.
J1 - 12 - our oldest. He came to live with us when he was 16 mos old and completely turned our lives inside out! While he is struggling with self-control right now - he is the one who can brighten the room just by smiling! He loves creating things from our recycling and anything that allows him to move (trampoline, skateboards, inline skates, etc)
J2 - 11 - our middle son. He is the one who I am currently homeschooling. He loves to create things from Legos and he loves movies. He would watch movies all day if I let him :( He has just had a major breakthrough in reading - for which we are praising the Lord!
J3 - 6 - my joy. He has a very tender heart for me and really works hard to make me happy. He loves to cuddle and is just learning about Legos. He wants to be with his big brothers so much, but the age difference is a big hurdle right now.
Joshie - 5/29/02 - 2/22/03 - Our surprise! Our only pregnancy that the Lord allowed - and we were blessed to have him for those short mos. We are all still grieving his loss - you'll hear alot about that from time to time. We look forward to getting to know him someday.
