Sep. 11, 2006 Happy Birthday J2!
|
For most people this day is full of memories - not good ones. For our family this day is a celebration of our son. Today is his birthday! We are blessed to have you be part of our family! Memories of you... - The smallest baby I'd ever seen - with hair that stuck straight up in the air. Later we found out your foster mom would put a cap on you to try and get it to stay down...but it didn't really work!
- I remember the first day you came into our home. There was so much chaos and your foster mom was trying to give me your schedule and tell me important things and all I could do was look at you.
- Your first Christmas, we put you under our Christmas tree. You eyes would grow huge as you would watch the lights twinkling.
- I remember you sleeping in your swing as I desperately tried to wind it up without waking you! You slept so little those first months.
- I remember waking up and coming out to find you almost totally nude on the changing table with an exhausted Grammy saying "he's happier this way" and it was true!
- I remember trying to bundle you as you screamed and screamed due to hyperstimulation. Pacing a dark room, whispering quietly to you until you finally fell asleep from exhaustion.
- I remember watching you toddle after your big brother.
- I remember your first snowstorm after you could walk. You were bundled up so much you could barely move. But it didn't really matter as we could hardly get you to walk in it!
- I remember you dive bombing daddy whenever he was laying on the floor. You'd scream and jump - never matter what daddy was doing - you were totally confident that he would catch you...and he always did.
- I remember your 5th birthday when I watched the planes fly into the towers before you woke up. I wondered how I could possibly celebrate on a day like that. But when you woke up I realized how could I not celebrate you on a day like this. You will make a difference some day.
- I remember trying to tell you that we now lived in California, not in Oregon. You had such trouble understanding that concept.
- I remember seeing you arrive at the hospital after Joshua died. I see your dad crouching down to tell you and your big brother what happened. I doubt you understood a word of it.
- I remember trying to teach you to recognize a letter from the alphabet. Frustrating us both until the point of tears.
- I remember you hiding behind the chair when the TRex comes on Juraissic Park but having you pick it out again and again as your favorite movie.
- I remember you telling me you want to be a director because you think someone needs to make (Insert obnoxious kids movie title here)2. Actually you said "I want to be the guy who yells "Cut"!
- I remember giving you our old video camera and you yelling orders to all the family members as you directed us.
- I remember you bringing me your latest Lego creation and totally being able to recognize what it is!
There is almost too much to remember...and we've barely gotten started! I can't wait to see what the next several years bring us and who you become! Happy Double Digits!!

Aug. 17, 2006 First Day of School
Yesterday was the first day of school. Eric is teaching fourth grade again ;-) , J1 is in 5th grade and J3 is starting kindergarten. Here are our first day of school pics:
After taking pics, J3 waited outside with the neighborhood cat. He was so excited!
As soon as they left, J2 and I headed out for our traditional "not-back-to-school" breakfast. We will start school next Monday morning.

Today we had three games at three different parks again - what a morning! They all did great! And, at J2's game we ran into TONS of people we know - gosh, it's great to live in a town like this. Our years in Portland were so exciting but lonely without family. And, just when we started to fit in The Dalles, we moved...and then Reedsport was...well, so lonely again. There's nothing worse than being the odd man out in a small town. :(
When we got home two really neat things happened.... 1) J3 and I got a phone call inviting us to a picnic at the park with a preschool buddy of his and his mom! and 2) DH found a turtle in the neighbor's yard! Sadly we can not keep him/her, but we hope to find him/her a good home!
I also finally did some more knitting!! It's been weeks since I really picked it up and it felt great! I did a bit at the games and then watched "The Importance of Being Earnest" and knit. By the way, that was a very enjoyable movie - I hope to watch it again before we send it back to Netflix. It reminded me of another that I have not watched in awhile "The Ideal Husband" -- maybe I'll watch that one tomorrow!
If you think about it - please pray for J1 - he's got a fever again. I think it's time to go to the doctor and see if there is something wrong! :(

May. 18, 2006 Where I'm from
I am from a purple bike with silver streamers, from McDonald's hamburgers for 25 cents and cheese pizzas because we didn't know there were more options.
I am from flat farmland with high mountains in the distance, from the smell of rich dirt on the wind.
I am from the mosquitos biting at twilight and the sweet smell of warm tomatoes on the side of the road.
I am from Grasshopper pie on your birthday, from Clifton and Magdalene and Ward and Helen.
From "work first, play later" and smiling eyes.
I am from dozing on Momma's shoulder while I listened to the pastor. Now I'm the Momma - same pastor.
I'm from Northern California Ag land, walnuts and Grandpa's garden vegetables.
From the coffee can aroma quelling my naseua in the backseat, sucking the sea salt out of my hair after a day at Dillon's Beach, and making s'mores at the cabin.
I am from old photo albums - black pages and white spidery letting. I am from rolls and rolls of old movies with no sound. I am from Grandma's attic. |

| Grandma died yesterday morning. I took Momma to meet with her brothers and the funeral home. I'm thinking a break is good idea right now.

Today it's raining - again. [sigh] It's making me even more mellow and sad. Yesterday my mom called to say that the hospice nurse said Grandma has a number of days left - not weeks as they said earlier this week. Shouldn't I be sadder? I keep telling myself and others that I've already grieved her loss and I really have, but I keep thinking I should be sadder.
I'm so thankful that she was still lucid when Josh was alive. She got to enjoy him when we went to see her weekly. After he died, she could not remember he had died, and each time I visited she'd ask where the baby was. I only visited a few times after that. It was just too hard.
Phil 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.
Well, I'm getting off here to think on other things - good things! I hope you all have a chance to think on the gift of the Ressurection!

Mar. 26, 2006 A week in review
We've had a full week!
Most of the week Eric and J2 worked on his project fair entries. He did a volcano project for science and a birdhouse for art. Here are some pics of them working on it:
Eric and J2 creating the volcano out of plaster.
And J2 setting off the volcano

After the judging he got two ribbons - for his birdhouse he got 100 out of possible 100 points:

and for his volcano project, he got 95 out of 100:
(he's wearing his googles again - loves those goggles!
Saturday we had a great day with Eric's brother and his kids visiting - they are all many years older than our kids but love to talk and play with them! His oldest son, Jaron, is performing in "The Man of La Mancha" at the Woodland Opera House and it was opening night! But before that I got to spend some good time with my niece Annika and teach her a few of my favorite games! :) It was a nice day! We were unable to go to the play but we hope to go before it ends!
Saturday night Grammy (my mom) and I went to watch J3 play basketball again. It's loads of fun! Those kids are funny! But sadly the other team needed some parenting - not only did they push our boys around (very unYMCA!) but they also stole the ball from their own teammates and hog the ball! I hope their parents were a bit ashamed of their behaviour - it sure was embarrasing to watch!!
Today, Sunday, Eric went off to preach at St John's again and I took the boys to our church. Unfortunately, J1 did not feel good so he, J3 and I came home after church and J2 stuck around for Sunday School - getting a ride home from Grammy! Yeah for Grammy!
So, here is poor, sick J1:

And, I guess Daddy has decided that J2 is old enough to learn how to mow the lawn too - I didn't even think he could push the lawnmower! lol

About Me

Day by Day....we strive to learn together, love each other and have some fun.
Day By Day.... we strive to raise our boys to be knights and warriors for the Lord.
Some days it's a struggle...
Cast of Charaters
Me - I like to read and knit. I've been a Christian for many years and
loving learning about God and seeing the Lord work in our lives! I also post on my other blog,
"Journaling Back To Joy"
DH - Is a theologically trained teacher of 4th graders at a Christian school.
He loves astronomy, LOTR and playing with the kids! He is the funniest man I know.
J1 - 12 - our oldest. He came to live with us when he was 16 mos old and completely turned
our lives inside out! While he is struggling with self-control right now - he is the
one who can brighten the room just by smiling! He loves creating things from our recycling
and anything that allows him to move (trampoline, skateboards, inline skates, etc)
J2 - 11 - our middle son. He is the one who I am currently homeschooling. He loves to create things
from Legos and he loves movies. He would watch movies all day if I let him :( He has just had a major
breakthrough in reading - for which we are praising the Lord!
J3 - 6 - my joy. He has a very tender heart for me and really works hard to make me happy. He loves
to cuddle and is just learning about Legos. He wants to be with his big brothers so much, but the age
difference is a big hurdle right now.
Joshie - 5/29/02 - 2/22/03 - Our surprise! Our only pregnancy that the Lord allowed - and we were blessed
to have him for those short mos. We are all still grieving his loss - you'll hear alot about that from time
to time. We look forward to getting to know him someday.
