Knitting Projects

Posted in Knitting
Thought it was time to share a bit about my knitting.  I like to have several projects going at once in case I get bored or frustrated! ;-)

1)  Here is my progress on my never ending sweater!

The back is done and one side is about 2/3 done.  I've unknit quite a bit lately so this is now at the bottom of my knitting bad!  Bad Yarn!! :-)  I'm starting to worry that it might be too small!  I'm doing my best to ignore that little fear though.

A couple of things I'm learning from this experience - stockinette sweaters are BORING.  Just because the pattern says to knit one thing and then the next...there is no reason I can't knit them both at the same time!  I'm seriously considering the sleeves in magic loop - maybe even two at a time - to speed this up!  I want this done before Christmas!

2)  Here is a cable scarf I found here - the Irish Hiking Scarf - I'm doing it in Black Lion Brand Microspun.  Very Soft!  I'm just knitting in a rib pattern around the neck area so it will hang better.  Wish you could see the detail!

3)  The 2nd baby kimono (from Mason Dixon Knitting book) - this one is in stockinette.  Since I worked on it yesterday when I was coming down with this cold/flu/ickiness I now have to frog about 3 rows...sigh...

4)  I pulled this one out of the drawer - the Lost Points Shawl - I looooove these colors:

5) Finally, even though I am sick today - my friend Ruth asked to use my washing machine to felt her bag.  I decided the worse thing to happen wasn't going to be as bad as never felting the
two I had done.  So here is our results -

Mine are the two in back - the purple one turned out so nice that I think I'm going to give it to my niece - I hope she likes it because I really want to keep it!

Dancing Socks

Posted in Knitting
I don't call these dancing socks because I dance, but because they were knit in Dancing yarn from Knit Picks. Unfortunately It looks like this color scheme is no longer available. :-(

I did these socks toe up, two at a time, on Magic Loop.  They feel great and I think they are adorable!

Advice Needed

Posted in Knitting
I've been asked to write some posts about knitting/crocheting for a group blog - and I'm having trouble coming up with a name for my posts.

Which do you like?
No Idle Hands
or
Knitting for My Sanity

Both of them have lots of meaning to me - so I'd be ok with either one - but I can't choose!  What do you think??

Going Sock Crazy at Knit Picks

Posted in Knitting
I just got home and the mail was here - and there is a new Knit Picks catalog!!  And, they are featuring their sock yarns - oh, I'm in love!!

If you go to their site - check out Dancing, Parade, Essential and Simple Stripes.  All $2.99/ball - so that's one pair of socks for less than $6!!!  I love this company!!  I'm so excited and I'm only on page 10!!  ;)

Speaking of socks - here is my work in progress - 2 socks on 2 circs using Lion Brand's Magic Stripes!

Knitting Goodness

Posted in Knitting
So, I'm working on my sweater - 15" of stockinette stitch - very boring.  But I love, love, love this yarn and can not wait to have this done!  I just hope that it isn't August and 105 in the shade when it's done!  Here is a picture of this work in progress.  I'll try and be faithful to update with photos as we progress!

And, more knitting goodness - yesterday I got a package from my Secret Pal!!! I was running out the door but I made us late to see what was in the box!! :D

Inside was a beautiful card with a note, notecards that I can only describe as swanky (what fun!) and 4 skeins of "Dream" by Moda Dea.  I've been fondling this yarn nonstop - it's soooo soft! I did notice that is exactly my sister's favorite color and she has been wanting me to knit her a poncho!  I am so tickled by that idea!  And I think it would be a great distraction when the stockinette stitch gets TOO boring!  Thank you Secret Pal!  I noticed you mailed this from Lake Arrowhead - I have family down there!  What a beautiful place you live!!

OK - back to sick kids, homeschooling and laundry!  Playtime's over!! ;)

Why Sit & Knits are dangerous!

Posted in Knitting
...And should come with a warning label!! lol

I oh so innocently went to my LYS's sit and knit last night and tonight I'm trying to figure out the gauge on my First Ever Sweater!! Becca, the manager, helped me choose a classic cardigan pattern by "Knit One, Crochet Too" that I love.  We talked about yarn and she showed me some yummy cotton and wool blend yarn by Brown Sheep called "Cotton Fleece".  This morning I figured out how to afford said yarn and get my DH and boys to wait in the van while I bought it!  They only called me once while I was in the store - wondering WHY it was taking so long!! LOL  So, tonight I'm figuring out what needle I can use to get the right gauge and maybe I can cast on tonight!!

Prayers, well-wishes and advice freely accepted! ;)

What type of Knitter are YOU??

Posted in Knitting
Knitting Guru
You appear to be a Knitting Guru. You love knitting
and do it all the time. While finishing a piece
is the plan, you still love the process, and
can't imagine a day going by without giving
some time to your yarn. Packing for vacation
involves leaving ample space for the stash and
supplies. It can be hard to tell where the yarn
ends and you begin.

Knitting

Posted in Knitting

I realized I'm getting too far ahead of myself on knitting projects and need to get a handle on them!  Here is what I'm doing right now and their status:

1) Eric's Afghan - though I don't know why I'm doing it - I hate, hate, hate the yarn - blech!  It's about 85% done.
2) J3's slippers - just started, so let's say 5%.
3) My black shawl - 20%
4) Fall Scarf for an unnamed someone - 50%
5) Felted purse - I just need to felt it - oh for a little courage! ;)
Well, that's it except the dishcloth exchange I'm in - we make 2 dishcloths a month - which is a nice distraction from the other, bigger projets

Projects I want to do or have the yarn to do but haven't started yet:
1) Christmas stockings for Christy, Kaya, Connor, Caleigh, Rebecca, all my Js
2) A hat for me for those early morning walks!
3) A drop stitch scarf - Roe was doing one last night and I love the look of it!  Might need to make a couple for Christmas!!
4) Lace scarf out of this dreamy alpaca yarn I got from Knit Picks

About Me

Day by Day....we strive to learn together, love each other and have some fun. Day By Day.... we strive to raise our boys to be knights and warriors for the Lord. Some days it's a struggle...

Cast of Charaters

Me - I like to read and knit. I've been a Christian for many years and loving learning about God and seeing the Lord work in our lives! I also post on my other blog, "Journaling Back To Joy"
DH - Is a theologically trained teacher of 4th graders at a Christian school. He loves astronomy, LOTR and playing with the kids! He is the funniest man I know.
J1 - 12 - our oldest. He came to live with us when he was 16 mos old and completely turned our lives inside out! While he is struggling with self-control right now - he is the one who can brighten the room just by smiling! He loves creating things from our recycling and anything that allows him to move (trampoline, skateboards, inline skates, etc)
J2 - 11 - our middle son. He is the one who I am currently homeschooling. He loves to create things from Legos and he loves movies. He would watch movies all day if I let him :( He has just had a major breakthrough in reading - for which we are praising the Lord!
J3 - 6 - my joy. He has a very tender heart for me and really works hard to make me happy. He loves to cuddle and is just learning about Legos. He wants to be with his big brothers so much, but the age difference is a big hurdle right now.
Joshie - 5/29/02 - 2/22/03 - Our surprise! Our only pregnancy that the Lord allowed - and we were blessed to have him for those short mos. We are all still grieving his loss - you'll hear alot about that from time to time. We look forward to getting to know him someday.
