A Day in the Life of Homeschool Mom

Please pray for the families in our community

Yesterday afternoon around 2:00 pm a student at our local Highschool, here in Campbell County, shot 3 people, the Principal, and two Vice Principals. One man is dead, the others are in serious condition. This school is just over the hill from us. When they have football games, I can hear all the commentary, the band, the cheering, etc, that is how close it is to our home.  This happened in the Cafeteria at the school and was witnessed by many students. No students were injured. The Principal tackled the young man and took him into custody. The school was in lock down until 4:30 p.m.  The young man that did the shooting was only 14 yrs old. When I saw pictures of him on the news, he looked so young and innocent. This boys father is well known in our community. He owned and operated a local gas station/deli in the area for many years.  I have a 13 year old son, and I couldn't imagine anything like this. I do not yet know the young man's motive for the shooting. I have heard that he had some past altercations with the principal. I just thank God for everyday that I have the freedom to homeschool my children. My son has friends that were at the high school at the time. We are a very small, rural community. This type of thing can happen anywhere, and at any time, regardless of the size of the community. I have been praying for the families involved and the children that had to go through this.

Let me tell you about the day I had!!!!!in

Nothing exciting ever happens to me. I live an pretty ordinary life. Yesterday morning I woke and expected the day to be like most others. I had a doc appointment early in the morning and when we finished, we stopped by the local Christian bookstore. Well, guess who was at the store? THIRD DAY!!! My favorite band!!! I was standing 10 feet from them and heard over the loudspeaker that there was a registration table in the front for prizes. I registered myself and my children and got in line to meet them and get an autograph.  While in line, they chose my name from the box of enteries. I went to collect my prize, and guess what I won? I WON TWO FREE TICKETS TO AN INVITATION ONLY THIRD DAY CONCERT!!!  I have never won anything in my life!!  This is a concert that you cannot buy tickets for, the only people in attendance are people that have won tickets. The concert was last night. I have pics and will post them as soon as possible!

Good Morning

It is a beautiful sunny day here in East TN.  Saturday was my birthday! We all went to the Mall and shopped a little. I found a great pair of shoes. The kids enjoyed the arcade. All in all it was a pretty good time.  We are getting ready to take our dog to be groomed. He is shedding everywhere. At the groomer, they give him a treatment that stops the shedding for 3 months. He is an indoor dog and sheds year round.
I want to start Christmas shopping soon. I don't want to wait until the last minute like I did last year. It was Dec. 22 before we had any gifts under our tree. By the time I went shopping, there was hardly anything left!

Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day and thanks for reading my blog!

The Doves are Taking Over!

My computer is located by my french doors that lead out side to our deck. I am watching a flock of about 10 or so Doves eating from our birdfeeder. I love to watch the birds in the fall and winter.  I have been studying this morning. I am in the last stages of completing my medical transcription course. I am typing reports now. I counted the number of reports that are required and it comes to a little over 600. I probably have around 300 completed. I feel like I will never finish this.  I usually work until about 8:45 and then I wake the children up and start school. The children have to work on their co-op homework. We have classes all day on Friday. It is a co-op of about 200 children. They really enjoy it. My goals for today: School, mail packages, package my Country Bunny orders, clean, and laundry.
Have a blessed day!

It's Foggy Outside

It's foggy outside this morning. We live on the lake and the fog rolls in extra thick. I am looking down through the woods and can't even see the lake.  I am still trying to figure things out on the blog. I posted some pictures of some things we had done in the past year. My children have grown up so much in a year's time. Last year at this time, my son would come up to me and tiptoe and say "See, I'm as tall as you." Now, he is about 2 inches taller than me. My daughter is almost my height at 5'4". Their attitudes and personalities have changed as well. It is hard for me to get used to. I am dealing with young adults now, not children. I have learned that I have to let them make some decisions on their own. It is hard for me to step back and let them go. I know I need to a little bit at a time. Everything is a lot different now. I have learned in teaching them, that the same things that have worked for us in the earlier years, do not work when they get older. I have learned to be more flexible. I am trying to teach them to be more independent in their studies, and be able to keep up with things on their own.  I have had to go back and have them re do their work and had to stay right with them to keep them motivated. I know the middle school years is a transitional time, and  that is why that we are covering everything over again. They are adjusting to their hormone changes and we are trying to prepare them for High School. I almost skipped 8th grade for my son. He is capable of doing High School work and he takes one high school class at coop. I just didn't think he was mature enough yet to buckle down and take on the workload. Well, I was right. He can just handle what he has at the present time.
Yesterday we got quite a bit of work done. I checked my videos, only to find that I am missing two blockfeeds for World Studies. I will have to teach that one myself. I am just glad it wasn't for Pre-Algebra, because I am terrible at Math! I wrote out lesson plans to give to the kids for the rest of the week. I want them to check off their work as they go. I think this should eliminate them saying "Oh, I forgot to do that" or "I didn't hear the teacher assign that" I am getting tired of those excuses and feel that they are just trying to take shortcuts and get by without doing their work.  I graded their work for the past couple of days, made chili, cleaned house, and mailed bills. I think we may go to the park today. In our area, the homeschool group meets at the park every other Wed. I put an email out this morning to see who might be interested in going. If a few people decide to go, we may ride down and see everyone. We have church and youth tonight at 6:00.
I have to study some today, starting in just a few minutes. I made muffins for everyone this morning. The kids like muffins or pancakes for breakfast. I try to cook something at least 3 days a week.  Other days we get cereal or pop tarts. Enough of my ramblings...I hope you have a blessed day!!!!
