Jun. 28, 2007 - Oh Precious Sleep, where art thou?
A little over 3 years ago when we found out that our first child was on the way, we were so excited. We started praying right away for a healthy child and a safe arrival. The one thing we did not think about praying for was a good sleeper, looking back that could not have hurt!
I hear stories of babies who sleep so good, just hours on end and wake refreshed and happy. And I should mention now that I adore my Lillie and would not trade her for all of the good sleepers in the world. But the child does like to sleep nor realize the value of being fully rested.
We have had sleep issues with Lillie since that inital honeymoon where they sleep like all the time and you try to wake them up because they sleep so much. We then she turned like 6 weeks old and it was all over. She ended up in the bed with us, which I said would never happen. So finally a couple of months ago she began sleeping in her bed, not always through the night but I could go check on her and pat her back and she would go back to dreamland. She was sleeping like 11 hours in her bed and let me tell you I was like 2 and 1/2 hours behind on sleep and it was heaven!
Well, this past week the darling girl has declared, Sleep who needs sleep! She prefers to sleep a couple of hours and then cry, beg to rock and then go back to sleep and repeat in a couple of hours! Last night we did this twice and I got her back to sleep, laid her in her bed and she woke up. So I laid down and she finally dozed off and so did I, seems okay right? Not really,a few minutes later I was jolted out of a dead sleep to a huge THUMP, you moms out there have heard that thump. Yep, she fell right off the bed, thankfully no major damage except we had to rock again! Needless to say this morning we are both a little weary. She had a couple of naps the last couple of days so I am planning no nap today and hoping that breaks this lovely cycle we are in!
Oh and by the way, we are praying for this baby to be healthy, have a safe arrival and we would not complain one little bit if the child likes to sleep!
