By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge
the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ~Proverbs 24:3-4

In American Story 2, we have been cutting out Civil War soldiers. We finally got enough to react the Battle of Fredricksburg. The South had the advantage as you will see in these pictures. We had a lot of fun setting them up and doing the battle.
The South had wall to protect them and they only had to fire down the hill.
The North had to advance up the hill, unprotected.
We did Civil War last spring. Spaz would have loved to do something like this, but I was just making him do too darn much reading and writing and mapping... Maybe when we get to WW I...
btw, I know your curriculum has your books all planned out for you, but here's one, for whatever it's worth: Rifles For Watie. This was suggested by my curriculum guide, and Spaz (age 12 at the time) loved-loved-loved it. It even surpassed Carry On Mr Bowditch as his all-time favorite book. I didn't read it, but if BiblioPaln recommended it and Spaz adored it, it must be good.
btw, we *should* be doing Civil War right *now*, but we began BiblioPlan vol 4 last April. That's not b/c we were ahead; it's b/c we took nearly 2 yrs to go thru BP vol 3! I have a very hard time sticking to the schedule with history; the classical-based curricula wants you to race thru it and we prefer to stroll. There is just too much to learn and too many good books to read! (So far we are on schedule to finish Vol 4 "on time"-- but that's with the 4-week headstart. I doubt we will.)
Oh, my! Looking at your blog is like looking in the mirror. Lol. You do things very much the way we do. You can check us out at www.AsWeWalk.com
Do you use KONOS?
Deb
p.s. Found you while googling to figure out if I have to keep these disgusting cow's eyes in the frig until we dissect them. I think I'll just stuff them in a brown paper bag all the way in the back. Blech!
