By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge
the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ~Proverbs 24:3-4
• Feb. 25, 2009 - Signs of Spring and My Daughter
Here is true sign of Spring...
My daughter Mei is a mommy's girl. She is like my shadow; she is with me a lot. Always has been.
Last Sunday afternoon she begged her daddy to plant seeds. He was planning on painting a rental property instead, but his love of gardening and his daughter won out. They spent all afternoon on the deck.
Last night he went to paint the property. When I stopped by there after Bible Study to see how it was going, Mei was with him. I was surprised but pleased that they were spending time together. When I offered to take her home, she said "No, Daddy is taking me to Waffle House when we are done." So I went home alone and they went to Waffle House.
When she met her daddy for the first time, she wouldn't let him even hold her. Now 5.5 years later, she is choosing Daddy (ok and food too) over Mommy. I felt a little rejected, but really glad that their relationship is growing. She is growing up!
p.s. I have no idea what they are going to do with all these little plants. For now, they have moved into our kitchen. We don't have garden space in the yard and we have lots of deer visitors. Guess some can grow in pots on the deck.
More signs saw today on a field trip. Some people's daffodils are blooming. Mine should bloom within the week.
It always seems odd to me when people refer to February as spring. But with many relatives and blog friends resding in warmer climates, I suppose I need to get used to it. February has always been, to me, absolutely, irrevokably WINTER. Spring arrives in mid-April if we're lucky. Being a Michigan girl originally, I'm sure you remember.
When the daffodils are blooming, it it hard to pretend it isn't Spring! It has been in the 50's the last couple of days. Still freezing at night. Our "last frost" date is early April, so we have awhile before we can plant anything outside.
Yes, I remember being cold on Memorial Day! Or the year I got poison ivy on Spring Break in KY and come back to MI with 2 ft of snow on the ground. Doctor didn't want to believe it could be poison ivy!
