By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge
the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. ~Proverbs 24:3-4
• May. 8, 2009 - New Books and other news
Our new books for this fall started arriving last week. What fun! I think I was more excited than the kids. Only about half of the Sea & Sky books came, so we should be getting more boxes soon!
In other news, James's father passed away last week and we traveled to Ky for the funeral. We were so glad that he and the 2 youngest kids got to spend the weekend with them about 2 weeks prior. They had a great weekend together. We will miss you, Dad and Grandpa.
Paul took 3 of his AP exams this week, with one more to go next week. School is winding down for him. Graduation is June 10. We have just 2 more weeks left of homeschool. Yay!!
In case you are wondering, here is what we are doing this coming year: History: WinterPromise Sea & Sky with the Older Learners Guide for Mark (i.e. more work :) Science: Sea & Sky includes science which both will do. In addition, Mark will do Apologia's General Science. Math: Mei is using Horizons 3. Mark will finish Jacob's Algebra and move into Jacob's Geometry (we made it through 11 of 17 chapters in algebra). Language Arts: WP LA3 for Mei. Total Language Plus for Mark (Julie of the Wolves, Carry On Mr. Bodwitch, Treasure Island, Out of the Dust) Bible: reading & discussing Art: going to try again doing my own thing Typing: going to try again to make this happen Computer: Mark says he wants to do this, will see if he has time Other: Monthly co-op - Mark may do Shakespeare again if he likes the play; Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
This summer we will be reading Zoology 1: Flying Creatures for the fun of it. Mei will be working on word suffixes/prefixes and grammar. She is skipping LA2, but needs to cover a few things from it before diving into LA3 this fall. Mark is going to youth conference and to Boy Scout camp this summer.
Paul will be hopefully working this summer He also has orientation for college. He will be attending our state university to study computer engineering.
Books in the mail are always fun!
Mei's books - still waiting on some readers for LA.
Mark's books and the Sea & Sky history books. Still missing some S&S books. Still need to buy rest of TLP workbooks.
Sea and Sky looks like so much fun! I am glad I decided to use it after Amer Story 2. I'll be listening to hear how it works for Mei, since Joshua will just be in 4th grade next year.
