Much Ado About Nothing

Aug. 29, 2006 - Whosoever

Ok, the closet project is done, school is in full swing, I have regained control of the yard and I even re-discovered the floor in my shed (man-space).  So, what does Big Daddy K do for fun?  Well, one answer to that would be WHOSOEVER.  Whosoever is my band.  We are a praise and worship band and we love to just play and sing and give glory to God while we are doing it.  There are 12 of us altogether representing three different churches.  We have played with each other in various smaller forms and then decided to make things bigger.  We have 5 singers, 2 keyboards, 2 guitars, 1 bass, 1 drummer (that's me) and 1 percussion.

Right smack dab in the middle of the closet project we got together and played at 2 of the 3 earlier mentioned churches.  On Sat. night we did a 'Back to School' party at one church and on Sunday we practiced in the afternoon and played a coffee house kind of thing that benefitted the youth group at the other church.  It was a blast.  So, if your in the middle Tennessee area and you want to "get your praise on" let me know.  We would love to play for ya.

Here are some pictures for  the Sunday night gig taken by my beautiful wife.

There I am way in the back on the drums.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.

Aug. 23, 2006 - It Is Finished!!

Well, finally the closet project is finished.  HALLELUJAH!!  I thought it would never end but only 15 days after we started, we are done.  It probably should have taken only 3 or 4 days but with work schedules it just took a little longer than we anticipated.

You can check out my previous blogs for 'before' and 'during' photos.  Here are the 'after' pics.  It feels more like a regular room now and less like a garage but we still call it our "glorified garage".  However, we are very thankful for our little schoolroom

Aug. 11, 2006 - Will This Madness Ever End??

I am sure that it will but the Lord is teaching me some patience through all of this.  If you read my last blog you know that we are doing some remodeling in our "glorified garage" schoolroom.  Well, we are almost finished.  All we lack is some drywall finishing and to hang the doors on the closet.  I thought it would be done last night or today.  But alas, it will not be complete until tomorrow.  I took today off of work to paint the room but I can't paint until the drywall is complete.  There is part of the room that I can paint so I will be focusing on that until I can make a move on the construction zone.

Now, I am usually not one to let things get to me but this has been causing me a great deal of stress.  I was in the middle of a small breakdown when my lovely wife Sonya (or Jewel as I lovingly call her for she is truly a jewel in my crown) tells me that it will be ok.  She can hold school at the kitchen table for a few more days until the project is complete.  The schoolroom will get back to normal it is just taking a little longer than we anticipated.  Thus the lesson in patience.  Thank you God for your lessons and the way you teach us to handle life.

Check out the pic.  This is where we are now.  Pics of the finished product are soon to come.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day.

Aug. 7, 2006 - A State of Disarray

They say here in the south that you can say anything about someone as long as you end your statement with "bless his/her heart".  Well bless my wife's heart.  No really, bless her heart.  She works hard as our homeschool teacher and today was the first day of a new school year.  We converted our garage when we decided to start this journey five years ago.  Now its a glorified garage.  I (along with a friend of mine who is doing most of the work) started a project last Friday (today is Monday) to build a closet in our school room to surround our water heater and add some storage space.  Well my friend had to work his regular job all weekend so we have been working a little at a time when we can.  Needless to say, the first day of school came and the room wasn't ready.  In fact it is a total wreck.  We joked that we were going to have to bring in a portable to get school started and for now class is being held in the cafeteria (dining room).  We hope to be done before the second week begins.  We shall see.

This is before we started

This is the way the room looks right now.

This is the closet currently.

Stay tuned to see the finished product.

Have a great day.

Aug. 4, 2006 - To Juice, or not to Juice?

Okay, I am new at this blog thing.  I have been random blogging and don't see very many Dad's out there.  Wives, encourage your husbands to start a blog.  I know their busy, we all are.  But men need other men to yak with also.

Anyway, that leads me to today's entry.  One of the things I like about working in a factory (i like working in a factory???)  is the discussions and mini-debates my friends and I have at the break-room table.  Most of them start from an article in the local newspaper.  Here is the latest.

Professional athletes using steroids.  There were three of us involved in this discussion.  Two of us (one being me) agreed that steroid use should remain illegal for all sports and athletes.  The third fella however felt that they should be made legal.  If an athlete wants to use them that is his choice.  He is old enough to understand the side effects and abuse his body this way if he wants to.  We asked him if 'roid' users would go in the record books or hall of fame because we felt that an athlete who achieves a record by his own merit and hard work deserves proper recognition but a 'roid' user does not.  He had help breaking that record.  His answer was yes, they should go in the record books with a note stating that performance enhancers were made legal in that sport at such and such a date in time.  He also feels the same way about Nascar racing.  No resrtictor plates.  You should be able to make your car go as fast as you possibly can.  I told him that I felt that he was just wanting to see athletes get hurt to up the entertainment value of his favorite sports.

I would like to know what you think on this topic.  I know...there's nothing in here about homeschooling.  You probably won't ever find much about HS here.  Don't get me wrong.  I love our homeschool.  It is just that I choose to write about other things.  Who knows, maybe some of you HS moms are big sports fans on the side.

Have a great day.

Jul. 31, 2006 - Here Goes Nothin'

Hello all you folks out there is blogland.  This is my very first blog. I'm so proud.  As my description says, this blog will be humerous, full of nonsense and have an occassional serious side to it.

First off, let me give credit to my beautiful wife who is patient enough to try to teach me how to create a blog.  She is a wonderful woman, a fantastic mother, a jewel in my crown, a true Proverbs 31 woman.

Ok, just a little about myself.  I grew up in the 80's.  Please don't hold that against me.  I have a wonderful wife, two fantastic sons and two furry four-legged critters.  (They're dogs, no cats allowed).  I am a homeschool 'principal'.  I love God and enjoy going to church with my family whenever I get a Sunday off of work.  I play drums in a praise and worship band called Whosoever.

My sons and I are involved in Boy Scouts which I really enjoy.  I grew up in scouts and think that it is a great organization.  I love to go camping.

I like motorcycles even though I don't own one.  (I am a wanna be biker)  And I like old muscle cars.

I work in a factory and pretty much consider myself to be a simple man and my wife calls me the King of cliches.

Well there you go.  That's me in a nut shell.  Why someone would want to read this is beyond me but we'll just see what happens.  If you like it let me know and come back often and if you don't, well...let me know that too only don't co....well just let me know what you think.

God bless and have a great day.
