Here a Little, There a Little

Books, Books, Books
|
Today was "off" school - instead, I ignored the boys (as much as you can ignore a 3 and 6 yo) and took out every children's book in our home. I put them all in piles of easy readers (jE or jZ), non-fiction, biography, historical fiction, picture book etc. I culled what I could to give a needy inner city school library and put the rest in newly categorized shelves. It all looks so pretty!! I marked all the books, so HOPEFULLY the boys can learn to put a jP with the other jPs and not with the F! It works for another hsing mom friend of mine. I am hoping, too, it will inspire my reader to read more since he should be able to find all his "easy" books in one place. My next bookish goal is to update our Excel so that I have a quick reference for what we have and what we "need" to purchase. I used to keep track of everything we read, what it's topic was, author, publisher, and whether I thought it was any good. I haven't done that for about a year - but doing it helped me be able to recognize good publishers and authors quickly when I was at a garage sale or Half-Price Books. I would, however, rather have an actual list of "wants" for when the grandparents want to give us something!

Thanks for the comment at my blog. I really appreciated your encouraging words. You sound like you like books as much as me. We have a nice collection at our home, but we also go to the library once a week. I am so thankful for our library. Reading books is so much a part of our curriculum. If I lost my voice I would be in trouble, because half our day is me reading out loud from the bible, picture books and I have separate read alouds for my three oldest boys. History is my favorite topic. There are so many opprotunities to point out God's hand in history. Have a great day. Can I put you as a friend? I would love to keep in touch. Are you going to the convention this Mar.?

yes, you may post me as a friend. I hate missing convention too. I had to last year for the first time since I started homeschooling and it about killed me too. I'm looking forward to this years convention. About whole grains, have you heard of Sue Gregg? She has several cookbooks out. What kind of grains have you used? There are many that have a wonderful taste that my family enjoys. They also are very high in nutritional value that are different than refined grains. Have you heard of Kumut, spelt, or white wheat? My family really enjoys these and I am able to make muffins, coffee cake, pancakes and yeast breads(but I haven't done too much of this yet.
I too am not sure how often I will be able to blog, but it will be fun when I can.
talk with you later,
Lisa
