Blessings Undreamt Of

Jul. 29, 2009

It’s Almost a Spanking New School Year…

… and I’m so excited.  After MUCH research and searching, we have purchased all of our texts and supplies for the 2009-2010 school year.  Boy, does it feel good to have that DONE!!!

Being an eclectic homeschooler, it can be incredibly challenging finding the best “fits” for each of our boys.  So, in case you’re curious, here’s what we’ll be doing…

Our 4 year old’s studies-- box 2 of Bob Books (he’s already read the first box), Zoom Piano, Rod & Staff pre-school workbooks, Primer MathUSee, and a bit of etc.

Our 5th grader’s studies-- Inductive Bible Studies for Kids! by Arthur & Arndt, MathUSee Epsilon, Apologia Flying Creatures of the 5th Day, Beautiful Feet American History, Daily Grams, A Reason for Handwriting, Zoom Typing, Spelling Power, English from the Roots Up (Latin & Greek), Computer Technology, English/Writing (that’s my major so, using my own methods, I incorporate his other subject for his essays, etc.), piano, and bits of etc.

Our 7th grader’s studies--  Inductive Bible Studies for Kids! by Arthur & Arndt, MathUSee Pre-Algebra, The Texas God Created (Texas History), Apologia General Science, Zoom Typing, Power Glide Spanish I, English/Writing (again… a la my methods), English from the Roots Up (Latin & Greek), Computer Technology, piano, and more bits of etc.

...And dismount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (for those who don't understand the "dismount" comment... that's what gymnasts do when they finish a routine... homeschool moms do it when they have successfully collected curricula for a school year)  Now, I can’t wait for the fun part… teaching it!!!  Hopefully our 4th son, who just turned one, will happily cooperate with our schooling schedule. J

Blessings in your new school year!

JMichelle

Hi lady!

It is so sweet to have the curriculum in order. Mine is done and packed away in our storage unit. I am having a bit of a struggle when I think about this next school year because I don't know where we will be. We don't want to be at Paul's folks house by then because that would be pure chaos. So I try not to think about school and am trying to be patient and wait on my God, who is so faithful to us.

Congrats on getting it all together! Is your little one walking yet?

I just got my order in the other day! Exciting!
We are using Aplogia 1 this year too. (Flying creatures.) I am sort of using it as my spine and doing Hss and FIAR units around it.

We did BF American History last year. We really enjoyed it.

We also use and love MUS.

You will have to let me know how you like Enlish from the roots up. I purchased Rummy Roots, as a trial.
But we are starting Greek this year. Hey Andrew level 1.

Jul. 30, 2009 - Hi!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. It is so nice to meet you! The funny thing about facebook is that I have several friends who are on there a lot, and if I am wondering how they are doing, I can check to see if they have updated their facebook pages. :) Anyway, four kids keeps me way too busy! It is a good kind of busy however.

Well, I am hoping to read more of your blog. I love the free-range baby post. :)

Have a great day!

Hi Michelle, thanks for leaving me a COMMENT!!! How sweet of you. Four boys, that's what I wanted, and God gave me four girls. LOL! (He knew what I really wanted.) You look a lot younger and more energetic than me, which is a good thing when you have boys. :o)
Nice blog you have here.

My girls are almost 15, 12, 9, and almost 6. Maybe your older boys would enjoy GA Henty, Oliver Optic, or RM Ballantyne? Or the Sugar Creek Gang, by Paul Hutchens. I am with you on Shakespeare. I am kind of interested in my kids knowing his story lines for the sake of cultural literacy. But do I really care about cultural literacy? I'm not even culturally literate, not in today's culture. The longer I homeschool, the less I know. Do I care if my girls meet the state graduation requirements? lol. What a basket case! :o)
So are there any classics that you DO recommend? Silas Marner? ??

PS. Here's one of my regular blog haunts:

Amy was a children's librarian, and she comes up with some good recommendations.

Thank you for leaving a comment today. I hope you have a wonderful school year. It sounds like you will be busy! And enjoy your get-away as well. We really enjoy taking little trips to near-by places. This has been a weird summer with cooler temperatures, but still, we are never as hot as you all in Texas.

Aug. 23, 2009 - Great fall line-up!!

Posted by peppermintpatti
Get it? "fall line-up?"
We started the Inductive Bible Studies last year and absolutely loved them... so much so that when I needed to combine ALL children for the Wednesday night services at our church... that's what I decided would work out best... I take all the children through a lesson, then the younger ones work on memory verses while I add extra assigments for the teens! I have never seen teens so excited about studying the Bible!!! They are even inviting friends! Imagine, no lights, dramas, pizza, or party atmospheres.... just the pure study of God's Word has lit a fire under them!! That's enough to make a pastor's wife shout!!! :)

Love ya, girl!
