Accents

Most people who come into Chicago, say that we have a funny accent. They say that we say "venilla" instead of "vanilla",  "melk" instead of "milk", and "tomatoes" instead of "tomotoes". I’ve lived near Chicago  all of my life and I’ve never developed a Chicago accent. I don’t even have an accent! Well, once in a while I imitate other people’s funny accents, but on the whole I just talk normally. What is a normal accent, though? Doesn’t everyone have a different accent? If every accent is different, then there is no normal accent. So, if you come to Chicago, don’t tell me that I have an accent, unless I’m doing my Scottish imitation, which is funny! I practiced up on it for this post so everyone can hear it. I’m posting it on my pod cast! An accent is basically an adaptation of the people you hear around you.

Your phone must pick up a lot of fuzz/bass because here your voice sounds brighter and on the phone it has more bass (not deeper, just more bass).

Anyway, yeah you do have kind of an accent when you talk normal. You say some words funny. I can't remember what words but you do =P

ROFL!!! That was hysterical...

I know a girl who talks like that. She said "meil" instead of "mail" and "kell" instead of "kill". Lol

I don't have an accent. My grandparents have really heavy Swiss ones, though. I can imitate them pretty accurately. ;-)

That was hilarious! We love to do the fake Scot accent here too. We especially like Dr. McNeill from "Christy." We are just about as weird as you are. LOL!

Okay! Now I HAVE to know something! How ever did you do that without laughing?! I could not do it, I would have laughed my silly little head off.

Accents are an interesting thing. Some people would probably assume that I have a Southern accent, but oddly enough, since I didn't spend my formative years in the South, I don't. I have a very neutral American accent. I jokingly say I have a computer voice (but I don't think I sound that technical). My mom sometimes says, "It's amazing - you practically have no accent," - though my parents and siblings don't have any noticeable accents either. Most of our southern relatives do, however.

Would you believe that my mom's side of the family is actually from Rock Falls, Illinoise (her father's family)? My mom's mother was Swedish (she died when my mom was 16). Mom's family moved to Alabama when she was younger (her stepmother is Southern). My dad's parents are both from Alabama.

The last time we visited our relatives in Illinoise was about 7 years ago at a family reunion. We were supposed to go to another reunion this July, but we're not going to be able to make it (too much going on).

No, I eat oysters raw, not clams. They're really good! LOL
I don't eat clams often, most places cook them too long and they're like having a rubber band in your mouth. I've been to Maine and rode a ferry boat across the Atlantic to Nova Scotia. I'd love to go there and take my hubby and Kelsey.

Nice blog (you probably here that alot) but it's true. The accent is very nice. I'm half American and half Australian (Australia is where I was born) but when I did go to school everyone would be like: 'So your American? Come on let's here it.' And I'd be like 'Well it's been almost six years since I've been to America, so how do you expect me to say something with an American accent?' Anyway it used to annoy me so much.
Well I'd better go, hope to hear from you soon.

Haha! That's funny. LOL! I guess you could nail it down after a few more practices. Those accents are really hard to get and imitate! I know some people that are really good at accents...I should see if they can do a good one.
