Sep. 25, 2008 - Wow! Just Wow!
Some of you may have seen the link on my side bar that leads to the blog of Shelley Simmons and Samson. Competitors in the 2008 western states mustang challenge.
Shelley and Samson did not win, but I was amazed after watching the video of the winner. Even someone who does not know horses would see that this is incredible.
Just so you really know how WOW this is let me remind you this horse was trained in three months.
I would love to have a horse like this!

Wow...that is absolutely incredible!!!!! I want that horse!!!! I didn't know anything about the challenge...that is just awesome. Wow, and walking over the seesaw under the fire? I couldn't get my horse Lance to do that in a million years! Figuratively speaking... ;-)
Thanks for posting the video!!

Cool video! I really liked the part where the rider falls off and the horse stops, turns around, and waits for him!
I don't ride horses hardly ever (about once every few years!) and the last one I rode recently was awful! LOL!

I forgot to mention that I once rode a horse that was born in the wild and after it was grown up, was caught and tamed by a friend. I rode it by myself (for the first time ever riding a horse by myself) when I was 7. It was quite the gentle horse!

Hello! I have enjoyed looking at your blog as my Mom found you and introduced me to you. Do you have a horse? Would you like to be friends? I am also impressed by that cowboy - he had some hard work and patience put into that horse. I'm impressed.
Great blog! God bless,

Oct. 23, 2008 - Western States Mustang Challenge/Mustangs
Posted by Shelley Simmons
Dear Bluejeans,
Let me introduce myself. I am Shelley Simmons. I am one of 34 trainers that competed in the Western States Mustang Challenge that was held in Sacramento in June, 2008. I was typing my name in the search engine on the computer and had your blog come up as having my name and web site mentioned. As I am extremely curious, I decided to write and ask how you found out about me. I would love to know where you live, but understand the caution you must take in writing to strangers. Then again, you may not be a stranger and are someone I already know?
Have you heard that there will be a Mustang Challenge during the Albany Horse Expo in March? The Mustang Heritage Foundation that puts on these fantastic challenges/makeovers will not be able to do the Albany Challenge if 30 trainers do not apply. I have gone back and forth as to whether I want to apply. I am leaning more towards applying. Samson was the first mustang I had ever trained. He was awesome! I had the priviledge of training a little 3 year mustang mare that was adopted in Prineville, OR this past July. She came from Murders Creek herd. Now that I've trained two mustangs I am anxious to train another. Thus participating in another challenge would be fun and rewarding and another mustang would have a chance to find a great home.
If you have questions about the Mustang Challenges I'd love to chat with you and answer them. If you are local and would like to see the whole process of training a "wild" mustang, I'd love to also share that with you or anyone else that reads this post.
My personnel e-mail address is simmonsfn5@msn.com.
