My friend, Trusting Daily, tagged me...well not actually. If I read it on her blog she said considered yourself tagged....so here goes.... Seven Facts about me that you might not already know... 1. I love to read maps (I wonder why...not because my dad was a navigator in the Air Force or because I travel so much, ya think? 2. I love to read cookbooks (Yeah, I bet that's real surprising since I love to cook) 3. I appreciate ballet and the opera-even though I hardly know anything about either. 4. I love to sing...and those that know me know I'm making a joyful noise. 5. I love to play in the snow and miss it lots, but don't want to live in because I can't drive in it. (my younger childhood I was brought up in the North, we moved to TX when I was 12...learned how to drive in TX...I can drive in snow if I have to, as long as the roads are cleared) 6. Green is my favorite color because it reminds me so much of the outside and all tthe beautiful things GOD's created. 7. I love to fish! Okay your turn...you're IT!!! (unless of course you've already done it) |

Yep, I'm almost done Christmas shopping...okay, probably not really, but I've got a really good start. I'm more than half-way done with my kids, got my dad covered, my sister covered...I think that's a pretty good start! Last night I called my dad and his wife A...I asked A, "So A, What would you like for Christmas? I'm close to being done and your one of the last people I need to shop for". She as usually cracked me up by telling me it's only October! "Yes, I know that A, but I can't get done if I don't know what you want..." I told her...and then said she could let me know in the near future...as long it's by the day after Thanksgiving...because I love Black Friday...anyone wanna join me???? |

We probably need the rain now...but over the summer...while I was gone...thank goodness...we had plenty, so we might not be in need of it afterall... I'll be driving to Houston to visit dh. I think while I'm there, I'll go visit a few friends...and get my van detailed. Oh it's in need of a good cleaning and I just don't have the energy or time...well maybe I have both and just don't feel like doing it. Well my dad's Indians didn't make it to the World Series...what a bummer. The Red Sox did and we like the Sox, but they already won the World Series a few years ago, so we were hoping the Indians would go... Let's see in other news... I had ants taking over my kitchen...pesty little critters...the other day while here on the computer my #2 dd called out, "Mom there are ants all over the counter and in the chips!" She wasn't joking...I'm surprised they hadn't figured out how to pick up the bag and carry it off!!! Thank goodness dh sprayed and now we have no sightings!!! They were fire ants too-ick! Not to mention we had some nice little scorpions too-YUCK!!! Hopefully with the cold and spray they're gone too... Oh, and Dad did take the girls to the movies the other night when ds and I went to see the Newsboys..they saw the new movie with the Rock...can't think of the name right now, but all of them said they enjoyed it and dh said he didn't remember hearing any bad words or there weren't any bad scenes. Yes, I'm here to report that the Newsboys concert was incredible!!! I was REALLY impressed with how they gave the salvation message after 2 songs and not at the end of the concert. It was one of the best concerts I've ever been to that really ministered the WORD. I've been to a lot of Christian concerts and they seem to always minister the WORD...but I really liked how the Newsboys did it! |

Tonight my ds (11yo) and I(??yo-LOL!!!) will spend the evening together!!! I'm so excited to be able to take him to his first BIG concert! We're going to see the Newsboys at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin! The girls will stay here with Dad and hopefully he'll spend some much needed Daddy/Daughter time with them. |

My dd wants this party dance mat thingy...okay that's fine...but we recently instilled the whole allowance in our children's lives....I don't know why we never did it before...maybe because sometimes (okay a lot) we didn't have the money to do it and then over the years when we have had the money I would just buy my kids stuff instead of giving them an allowance-YES I know BAD MOM AWARD...(mind you this is not every time we go to the store or something and usually not an expensive thing, usually a candy bar or something) Moving on...I finally figured out from a friend that an allowance is a good thing. She gives her kids $30 a week...I thought she's nuts! But then she explained...I no longer have to come up with money for when they ask "Hey Mom, will you buy me this or may I have this amount to go to the movies" (no her kids are not old enough to work outside the house yet...still under 15. They have chores etc...) But also I have had this book by Dr. Kevin Leman (you know the guy that wrote The New Birth Order) called Making Children MIND without Losing YOURS...I bought at least 3 years ago at Family Christian Bookstore and read a few chapters and never finished...about 3 weeks ago I picked up to read at the salon while waiting. Guess what it suggested? An allowance!!! I read his reasoning...made sense to me...and so we started the practice of an allowance after explaining all the "rules"...This is not for work around the house...blah blah blah...actually if you want the whole list I can post it later...one of the rules is no advance on allowance...(well maybe if there's something on clearance, and it's such a great deal-but we haven't gone over that yet...) ANYHOW...so dd wants the dance step thingy...wants to buy it with her allowance, problem is she wants an advance on the allowance...my response was, "I'm not a credit card company!!!" I could understand if she just had to have it, but this can wait! and besides it would make such a great Christmas present... Geez, if we all could learn to wait...most the time Thank GOODNESS and GOD, that I am NOT an implusive buyer-unless it's a really good clearance sale and I know that the purchases I'm making will either make a great gift for someone in particular or it's something we will need in the future (like clothes for my kids) Nevertheless, I seldom use credit cards and if I do I try to use them minimal and pay back asap or in full! Oh and BTW...my kids get one dollar for every year of age...which they must give GOD HIS 10% and another 10% goes into savings! |

"and getting smaller"-Dennis Quaid's character in "The Parent Trap! I really enjoy reading blogs and finding people that have similar interests, etc as myself. My favorite thing is to find someone that either travels lots like our family or lives in a place where I've lived! I just came across a couple of blogs this past week that I really look forward to getting to read more and getting to know these hs moms more. Here's a gal that lives near where I use to live for many years...dangela1 and here's a gal that I found off of dangela1's blog... trustingdaily that live in TX and her family sounds like they travel as much as we do! |

Costs to go to the last Astros' game of the season and Biggio's last career game... Tickets off ebay $XXX Gas to Houston (from Austin for 2 vehicles*) $XXX Parking $XX Refreshments $XX My dd's tears of joy and sadness, saying we were at Bigg's 1st and last game PRICELESS *Actually my dh drove his truck because he started a new job in Houston this week *************************************************************** YEP! I was there at Craig Biggio's first career game Biggio has played his whole career with the Astros...he's been a catcher, a left fielder, a center fielder, and second base man. He's had 3,060 hits. He loves I noticed on my friend pottermom's blog, that she wrote a similar post about Craig Biggio...lol...she lives in Houston...I don't...she went to the game too (unbeknown to me, until after the fact) I guess great minds think and write alike... |

Today I went shopping with my friend...here's a list of what we got and how much we saved! All together if I would have paid full price for everything I would have paid...$999.37 I paid...$260.73 a savings of $738.64...some of the stuff was my friends though...we combined sales to get more savings! Here's all we got... A sports coat for dh 2 dress shirts 2 pairs of shorts 6 shirts for my ds 15 shirts combined for my lil dd and my friends 3 kids 2 pairs of pjs-1 for dd and 1 beautiful gown for my friend 2 pairs of jeans-1 for dd, 1 for friend 1 pair of capris for dd 1 pair of shors for dd 1 pair of pants for me 1 skirt for me 1 top for me 3 shirts for me Total 37 items OH and I got my sister...7 shirts for $22.67...$2.99 each originally... $14.00 each that's a savings of $83.43!!! |

My kids love the part of the movie "Oliver Twist"...when Oliver is begging for some more food... It goes something like "Plezzzzzzzzzz sur may I have sume moreee" Well my ds thinks it's hyterical to ask in his best British accent for anything like this...for example when we are in the van and it gets hot or I haven't had a chance to turn the air up yet, "PLeezzzzzzzzzzz ma'am can we afford a little more air?" So the other day my dd had made some chicken nuggets which they both know to make me a few, otherwise I eat theirs...I was sitting in the kitchen and noticed that when I finally cleaned out the fireplace ashes from last year ... My kids have learned that I am a goofball and to find humor in almost anything I say or do!!! |

Okay, so we are on the road from Seattle to Chicago-right? And dh is pulling the new boat (more like a mini yacht) behind his truck. Apparently when he bought tires for the trailer they weren't the right kind...I don't know much about tires, but for those of you that do...Discount tires sold him Class C tires instead of Class D tires...telling him they would be the right ones. The new tires start wearing on the sides because of the weight of the mini yacht. We get to Butte, MT and they don't have a Discount tire so we go to a Firestone tire (dh spoke to Discount and they said they would give him his money back and get tires at Firestone-so that's what he did)... The problem is we have tons of meat the needs to be cooked in the cooler. We planned to camp on the way, but so far that hasn't worked. There was a rest stop about a mile back from town. After changing the tires out, we planned on going back and grilling it. When dh asked the tire guys if it would be easy to get back to the rest stop and then get turned around again they said we could grill it in the parking lot...now picture this... We are in the parking lot with the mini yacht hooked up to the truck, a BBQ pit over off to the side, TX plates on the vehicles, a trailer park right next to the tire place and then blood drips on my foot (in my sandal-I know gross) and I get the diaper wipes out and start cleaning it off and say to dh and dd, cracking up laughing..."I feel like a redneck...we are here at a tire center, grilling, next to a trailer park and now I'm taking a redneck bath!" OH it was so funny!!! and the looks from the people driving into the parking lot...I felt like I needed to explain....so I came to the conclusion from our many road trips and adventures...it isn't a road trip worth while unless we have an adventure!!! |
