I am NOT a credit card company!!!!

Posted in Just for fun

My dd wants this party dance mat thingy...okay that's fine...but we recently instilled the whole allowance in our children's lives....I don't know why we never did it before...maybe because sometimes (okay a lot) we didn't have the money to do it and then over the years when we  have had the money I would just buy my kids stuff instead of giving them an allowance-YES I know BAD MOM AWARD...(mind you this is not every time we go to the store or something and usually not an expensive thing, usually a candy bar or something)

Moving on...I finally figured out from a friend that an allowance is a good thing.  She gives her kids $30 a week...I thought she's nuts!  But then she explained...I no longer have to come up with money for when they ask "Hey Mom, will you buy me this or may I have this amount to go to the movies" (no her kids are not old enough to work outside the house yet...still under 15. They have chores etc...)  But also I have had this book by Dr. Kevin Leman (you know the guy that wrote The New Birth Order) called Making Children MIND without Losing YOURS...I bought at least 3 years ago at Family Christian Bookstore and read a few chapters and never finished...about 3 weeks ago I picked up to read at the salon while waiting.  Guess what it suggested?  An allowance!!!  I read his reasoning...made sense to me...and so we started the practice of an allowance after explaining all the "rules"...This is not for work around the house...blah blah blah...actually if you want the whole list I can post it later...one of the rules is no advance on allowance...(well maybe if there's something on clearance, and it's such a great deal-but we haven't gone over that yet...)

ANYHOW...so dd wants the dance step thingy...wants to buy it with her allowance, problem is she wants an advance on the allowance...my response was, "I'm not a credit card company!!!"  I could understand if she just had to have it, but this can wait!  and besides it would make such a great Christmas present...

Geez, if we all could learn to wait...most the time Thank GOODNESS and GOD, that I am NOT an implusive buyer-unless it's a really good clearance sale and I know that the purchases I'm making will either make a great gift for someone in particular or it's something we will need in the future (like clothes for my kids)  Nevertheless, I seldom use credit cards and if I do I try to use them minimal and pay back asap or in full!

Oh and BTW...my kids get one dollar for every year of age...which they must give GOD HIS 10% and another 10% goes into savings!

"and getting smaller"-Dennis Quaid's character in "The Parent Trap! or I can start singing...

I really enjoy reading blogs and finding people that have similar interests, etc as myself.  My favorite thing is to find someone that either travels lots like our family or lives in a place where I've lived!  I just came across a couple of blogs this past week that I really look forward to getting to read more and getting to know these hs moms more.  Here's a gal that lives near where I use to live for many years...dangela1 and here's a gal that I found off of dangela1's blog... trustingdaily that live in TX and her family sounds like they travel as much as we do!

Titus Woman...

Posted in Thoughts...

When did this crossover take place?  Why or How did it come so quickly?  One day I was a thin, bubbly, young mom and the next thing I know I have gray hairs poking out, fifty pounds heavier, and not so bubbly anymore...Instead I'm giving advice to the younger moms-yet still searching for answers myself.  When I was in my twenties I looked up to older women.  I needed an older woman in my life to fulfill a motherly role to me.  (My mom past away when I was 18. )  I married when I was 21, had my first by 22...my mil certainly wasn't a mother figure to me (she still doesn't like me).  I have a very dear friend that took me under her wing, mentored me and is still there for me! (thank you, Sister Sylvia) Yet, I'm puzzled this morning on how and why I got here and why it happened so quickly!!!

After hearing Melody Green talk about Keith this past weekend...this song has really been on my heart:

Grace By Which I Stand

Lord, the feelings are not the same,

I guess I'm older, I guess I've changed.

And how I wish it had been explained,

that as you're growing you must remember,

That nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus.

I know that I would surely fall away, except for grace, by which I'm saved.

Lord, I remember that special way,

I vowed to serve you, when it was brand new.

But like Peter, I can't even watch and pray, one hour with you,

And I bet, I could deny you too.

But nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus.

I'm sure that my whole life would waste away,

except for grace, by which I'm saved.

But nothing lasts, except the grace of God, by which I stand, in Jesus.

I know that I would surely fall away, except for grace, by

***************************************************************

LORD GOD, Thank YOU for YOUR Grace.  Help me to remember it is YOUR GRACE that saves me and not anything I can do myself.  I give all my doubts, fears, lacks...I thank YOU that each day is new and fresh...and the things of yesterday I can't change, but I can with YOUR GRACE and YOUR ABILITY today make a difference.  I can do all things through YOU!  AMEN!!!

Memories may be beautiful and then....

what's too painful to remember....

Oh brother...if you can't tell it's easy for me to think of a movie or song for pretty much any word out there.  Hey maybe I could start a new game show....

Getting to the point...for some reason I started looking for old Christian music for my blog, and to have some CDs...then I found some great oldies on YouTube...and spent most of this morning listening to a 7 part interview with Melody Green...Keith Green's widow.   I wasn't a Christian when Keith was alive, I became one a few years after his death...but He's left such an impact on Christain music...I truly believe he was ahead of his time. (I feel much the same about Rich Mullins)  His voice is so soothing and everytime I hear it I just weep sweet tears.   I think two things I really admire about Keith Green is that he truly wanted to worship JESUS in spirit and in truth...he did not want any of the glory...and that he truly had a heart to see ever person saved...such a heart for missions-here and abroad.  What a glorious reunion it will be when we get to Heaven and we all get to praise and worship the LORD!

I love my dh, but...

sometimes he can annoy the begeepers out of me...
*He started working in Houston a week or so ago.
*I was there last weekend for his 30 class reunion and house hunting...we finally decided on looking for an apartment...
*I came home...went through all the apartment listings in the area we are interested in. I read rating etc. I got the info he needed for some older apts, that have been completely redone...new cabinents, carpet, paint, etc...got the prices...Blah,blah, blah...
*Email him the information...
*Call him this morning to find out if he's going to call them (I guess this was an error on my part...maybe I should have explained more...like are you going to call to set up an appointment to see these apartments)
and you know what he's says to me???

Call them!

What do I need to call them for? (I'm here at home...I can't go look at them from here...I'm not driving 4 hours to go look at an apartment!!!) I guess he forgot the fact that I already got all the info we needed except actually seeing the apartment!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

This week’s assignment is to share a piece of your past. Our blogs are important pieces for our future generations, but when most of us were growing up, blogging wasn’t around. I hope that this assignment will help you to share your past on your blogs. Each piece of our childhood years played an important part in who we are today.

The assignment is to post a baby picture.

&

Share a special scripture that reminds you of your past.

Here I am...not sure how old I was...but before my sister was born (I'm the oldest of 4)

Me and Baby Beck (my sister's name is Rebecca)...I was so proud of her...(sorry the photo is damaged)

Here I am right before my second birthday in my favorite chair (I think I still have pieces of that rocking chair)...

My verse is...(and of course I have a story behind it too)

When I first became a Christian (when I met my dh)...I had many doubts of whether I was saved or not (just like the devil to do that) so when my oldest was born and we started to attend church on a regular basis I went up one Sunday and I gave my heart to JESUS again (this time so there would be NO doubt) the verse that I remember quoting in my prayer (and I guess I learned it in the short time I was going to that church...because I was raised devout Catholic...)was...

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Except I prayed something like, "Thank YOU, JESUS, for casting my sin as far as the east is from the west..."

So there's a little history about me.

I hope you all have a blessed week, and thanks Tamara for a great and fun assignment!!!

It was 30 years ago today...

Posted in Family Stuff

Okay, so it really wasn't 30 years ago today...but when I think about my dh graduating and having his 30th class reunion it makes me want to break out singing "Sgt. Pepper"...

We went to dh's class reunion this past weekend.  I was surprised by the fact not many people were out of shape, gray, or wrinkled.  I don't know why this surprised me, but it did...maybe cause I remember seeing my grandparents when they were around 50ish and they seemed so old...gray hair, funny cat glasses...perhaps it was the style of clothes and hair dos...or maybe WE look younger because of hair dyes, wrinkle creams, hip clothes, etc??? I suppose a few people probably worked on looking great, but overall I think that society has molded us and "shaped us".  I couldn't believe that there was a room full of almost 50 year olds...that's how old my dad was when I had my oldest (course my dad still doesn't look old and he's 70 now)...they didn't appreciate that when I told them-lol-can't understand why?

I kinda feel like I need to do some 'splain' on my choices...We travel a lot so most of my signs have something to do with our journeys...

We watch lots of movies-on the road and at home (wherever that may be)

sampfa1957fe32176a8a.jpg image by hbsantanajr

We like to read and because of homeschooling it just made sense to have a book...

sampc293f83c4e6a93c3.jpg image by hbsantanajr

I'm always at a new place, so I guess a name tag is appropriate

 A moving van...no explanation needed there...just read the blog-lol!

Hmmm... I love chocolate...it really should be a food group!!!

samp7610dba484a31802.jpg image by hbsantanajr

Road signs...cuz I'm usually in a new state,  city, or town!

samp31e2e1250472282f.jpg image by hbsantanajr

Looks like a sign you'd see on a subway or other mass transit in one of the many cities I've been to, visited...

School bus...again no need to explain this one...we are always on the road (or so it seems)

And guess where my house is?  Even when I'm not home...

Hope you all have a blessed week...and my verse is...

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
       and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight

ACK!!! NOT the KEYS!!!!

Yesterday my dear, darling son locked my keys in the van while it was running!!!  I still don't understand how or why he did it!!!  We were at the credit union finishing up our errands...he didn't want to go in, then decided to go in...I turn off the van, and my dd, he,and I go into the credit union.  He then decides he doesn't want to stay inside and grabs my keys and goes back out to the van.  Next thing I know he is running inside announces in a very loud voice (thank goodness no other customers were inside the credit union) I just locked your keys in the car and it's running!  Oh brother!!! Thank goodness my frozen foods were being air conditioned!!!  Needless to say...I did have some words for him...not taking off with my keys...not locking the keys in the van...his attitude...his loud voice...ACCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

I tried to maintain my cool inside the credit union and told him there wasn't much we could do about it...I called my warranty...got someone out there to unlock my doors...and went about my business...

Guess what I then decided to do????

Make an extra key for the door!  and that's promptly what we did!!!

THX B-G-O!!!! First and Last...

Costs to go to the last Astros' game of the season and Biggio's

last career game...

Tickets off ebay                                                  $XXX

Gas to Houston (from Austin for 2 vehicles*)        $XXX

Parking                                                                 $XX

Refreshments                                                        $XX

My dd's tears of joy and sadness, saying we

were at Bigg's 1st and last game                             PRICELESS

*Actually my dh drove his truck because he started

a new job in Houston this week

***************************************************************

YEP!  I was there at Craig Biggio's  first career game with the Astros...and yesterday I was at his last!!!   It was a bittersweet farewell.  My oldest dd LOVES the Astros, and she LOVES Craig Biggio!!!  Biggio held her when she was a little girl.  We use to go to lots and lots of games when she was little (and when I was pregnant with her) My dd still remembers him holding her!!!

Biggio has played his whole career with the Astros...he's been a catcher, a left fielder, a center fielder, and second base man.  He's had 3,060 hits.  He loves the game of baseball.  He loves kids...he's done lots of wonderful and great things for the city of Houston-the Sunshine Kids  for one!  I finally figured out why he loves baseball...because he's just a big kid himself!!!  He's a devoted father and husband.  He considers this the most important thing in life.   He will sorely be missed by me and so many other fans.  We'll look forward to the day he goes to Cooperstown!!!

I noticed on my friend pottermom's blog, that she wrote a similar post about Craig Biggio...lol...she lives in Houston...I don't...she went to the game too (unbeknown to me, until after the fact) I guess great minds think and write alike...

Oliver Twisted...

Posted in Just for fun

My kids love the part of the movie "Oliver Twist"...when Oliver is begging for some more food...

It goes something like "Plezzzzzzzzzz sur may I have sume moreee"

Well my ds thinks it's hyterical to ask in his best British accent for anything like this...for example when we are in the van and it gets hot or I haven't had a chance to turn the air up yet, "PLeezzzzzzzzzzz ma'am can we afford a little more air?"

So the other day my dd had made some chicken nuggets which they both know to make me a few, otherwise I eat theirs...I was sitting in the kitchen and noticed that when I finally cleaned out the fireplace ashes from last year ... that I forgot to lower the grate correctly.  I went over there and lowered it.  I had got some ashes on my fingers...I then got this wild idea to wipe it all over my face and ask my dd, "Plezzzzzzzzzzz ma'am may I have another chicken nugget?"  Of course both my kids were laughing in hysterics!!!!

My kids have learned that I am a goofball and to find humor in almost anything I say or do!!!

Does the house across the street REALLY need electricity???

Posted in My OPINION!!!

Some builder is building a house across the street from me...that does NOT make me happy!!!  Our house was the only house on the street for quite sometime-which I was perfectly fine with. (we live in a small, rural, retirement community outside of Austin)  Then a few houses came along...I was okay with that.  BUT THEN...this builder starts to build a house directly across the street from me!!! (now the purty deer aren't over there, wandering through the Cedar trees that were there) AND if that wasn't bad enough...last week the electric company came out and drilled a huge hole next to my driveway (the property next door is not developed and we always use the cleared area for extra parking).

This morning-UGH!-I walked out to the electric company's two huge trucks in the street.  One was directly behind my driveway and the other was in the cleared area about a foot away from  my ds's basketball net (and that is in my property).  They are here to install those huge electric poles in the holes.  Well I gave a disgusted look and got in my van to take my dd to work...(she didn't feel well yesterday so I picked her up instead of her driving her car home)  I'm backing out and there's this electric guy trying to direct me out of my driveway...now I'm sure he thought he was being helpful, but I was terribly annoyed by him!!!  I've probably spent more time and miles driving than he ever will.  (this past year alone I've put almost 40,000 miles on my van)  I REALLY don't need his help on how to back up out of my drive way...anyhow...so then on the way in from dropping dd off they are  IN my driveway!!!  ACK!!!! and there's another guy trying to be helpful...apparently he doesn't realize I live here and is going to direct me around the huge electric truck to drive down the street.  I point to my house and he's trying to figure out what to do so I can get in my driveway...I roll my eyes, cut across the grass (that part of the grass is always ran over anyhow) and pull into the driveway.  I get out of my van and look over at all the electric guys and say...You're not going to be HERE long-are you? One of them shook his head and said NO!  and I'm thinking it's a good thing!!!  Needless to say...I REALLY wonder, do those people that move in, will they REALLY need electricity???

$300-Priceless!!!

Posted in Family Stuff

It's really hard for me to blog day to day...although most people might think travelling is an exciting adventure (and I think it is...)it's hard to have something thrilling and exciting to take about day after day, without putting someone to sleep or to keep them interested in reading my blog day after day...

Here's what's new for this week...

My dh took a job in Houston again, so after travelling up to Seattle, then to Chicago over the summer, he's decided to go back to Houston and we might even buy a house there.  (Not that we'll sell this one, because dh loves this one.  I like it too)

I spent last night hunting for decent tickets to the Astros game on Sunday...for those of you that don't know, my oldest dd is THE biggest Astros baseball fan on the earth-and I think that is no lie...the girl lives and breathes Astro baseball...other than Jesus, baseball is her life...anyhow her beloved team did not make the playoffs this year and we've lost several favorite players due to retirements and trades...Sunday is Craig Biggio's last game and by golly we'll be there...after several attempts to buy tickets on ebay!!!  $200/5 tickets...tickets that normally sell for $10 a seat...okay so some day my kids can tell their grandkids they were at the last Craig Biggio game....and hopefully at least one of them will know who he was/is....and if not at least I get to see that priceless look on my dd's face and those tears of joy and sorrow of her beloved Craig Biggio one last time up to the plate!  He use to hold her when she was a baby and we would go to many games...no wonder she loves baseball...I turned her into this!!!

I also spent almost $100 to take my ds to the Newsboy's concert on Oct 20th!  Two tickets....and do you know why I was willing to do this??? well one reason is we had planned to see the King Tut exhibit in Philly, but since that didn't work out...I told him I would take him to the Newsboys instead...because he loves the Newsboys!  (and I gotta admit, I really like them too!!!)
