I am stumped and dumb founded by the issue of illegal immigration. I am even more flustered by comments made by those who are supporting illegal immigrants. A woman on the news said she didn't believe the community in which she lived held criminals. The newscaster then said, "Illegal immigration is just that, illegal, meaning criminal." The woman answered, "That's the United States problem." Hello?
I have said before that I do not have an answer to this issue. Personally, I am glad to have them here, however, it's border control that is an issue, along with national securtiy. Our country needs a way to have an idea of who is here. We also need to secure the border...not to keep mexicans out, but to help us keep our country safe from terrorists. I cannot imagine a system that would help legalize all of these immigrants, so they can stay and live the lives they have built here. I do not even know if they want to be citizens. I do know that I would not be allowed to emigrate to Mexico in the way they have been allowed here. Michelle Malkin, posted some pics with signs here. Those signs aren't accurate. If their thinking is to open the borders, then they need to recipricate and allow Americans to live and work their without a hassle. Believe it or not, many Americans look to live in Mexico, but are stone walled by the red tape.
The news of a boycott on Monday, that had mexicans not going to work, school, or shopping, kindof made me wonder. When I lived in NJ and WV we didn't h ave Mexicans that lived in our area...so the boycott would prove nothing. Many areas of America don't have large populations of Mexicans or Latinos. So, I was curious as to how this would affect our country as a whole.
Here is a blog with pics about a Rally held in Ft. Myers, Fl attended by Patricia Hunter and her daughter Emily. My son saw this (also a freshman) and wants to be part of a club as well.
Here's a report from San Diego, saying that the boycott had little affect, it was more symbolic. San Diego has influx of Mexicans at the border of Tijuana. Many Mexicans legally corss the border each day to work in the greater San Diego area. I have seen women taking the trolley into the city, which probably takes about 45 min or more each way. They do it, though, instead of crossing illegally. Anyway....
I am not sure of the answer, but I do know that I think the Mexican uprising is disrespectful of the country they are professing they want to stay in. I read one banner that said "USA = United States of Mexico", another with a picture of a garbage can with a flag in it and the phrase with an arrow pointing to the can "Put your American Flags here". The catch phrase is Nothing Gringo. If they want Nothing Gringo, then why are they here? If they feel American Flags in the trash, why are they here and fighting to stay here? One sign read "America is a continent not a country." I guess the definitions of continent and country ahve been altered since I last looked. Why don't these people walk on up to the Canadian border and scream that they are entitled to their way of life...free medical care for all?
Why are these Amercian hating people protesting our country, when they are free to go home whenver they want? Why do they want to stay in a country they feel is so evil? I just don't get it.
These are my thoughts.
