An unschooling friend of mine, has a high school aged daughter who is interested in enrolling in the local high school so as to have a transcript to attend college.  She is interested in pursuing a career in anthropological studies at Cornell University. 

My friend decides to make an appointment with the counselor at the high school.  After an hour long interview with her daughter the counselor says that if she would like her daughter to keep her love of learning, she would be best to NOT enroll her in school.  Perhaps a community college would provide a more suitable learning environment for her.

How exciting to hear a public educator recognize the love of learning that has developed in that homeschool girl, and that schooling would squelch that!  Even more amazing, he admitted it!!!
