Science Experiment
Yesterday, we went to a friend's house with a other homeschool families to have a "shoebox science fair". (your experiment had to fit in a shoebox). We had lots of fun, and over all it went well, except for my project...
For my project you need:
2 balloons
a candle
matches
First, fill one balloon with air, and the other one half with water, and half with air. Light the candle and put the air-filled balloon in the flame. It bursts... Now, stick the half-filled-water balloon in the flame. It doesn't pop! Why not? Because the water in the balloon is absorbing the heat. Eventually, you would boil the water inside the balloon, and then if you waited even longer, the balloon would burst.

Sounds like a fun expirament doesn't it? Well, everything went fine, until I let the flame go a little too close to the top of the balloon, letting the hot air get inside the balloon. The balloon popped and water went all over the place... Thankfully it was only water. :-) So I learned not to put the balloon so close to the flame next time...
What would've been really neat, is if we had gotten a picture right as the balloon had burst, and water was flying everywhere... :-) |
