Where Are You?

I've heard or seen this scripture in multiple places over the last two weeks.  As usual, I always know that means God has an important message for me. 

And the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" Genesis 3:9

THe background: Adam and Eve and in the Garden.. They have eaten the forbidden fruit.  Suddenly they are ashamed and they hide from God (so they think!).  And God calls out to Adam....."Where are you?"

Now, of course, God knows exactly where Adam is hiding. He had no need to ask.  So why did He?  And what does this scripture mean to us today?

I don't think God was asking Adam for his physical location.  I think He was asking Adam about where he was spiritually and emotionally?  It was more a question of why did you do it? What were you thinking? Where are you?  Naturally God knew the answer to those questions too, but He wanted Adam to realize the answers and admit to them. 

He asks us that same question today..."Where are you?" In other words, "Why did you do it?  What were You thinking?  Why didn't you trust me?  Where are you in your journey with me?  Where is your heart and mind focused?" --Again, to sum it all up, "Where are you?"  

God knows us inside and out.  He knows our hearts and our souls.  He knows why we do the things we do.  He gives us spiritual and emotional free will.  Sometimes He has to ask us, where are you?, to get our attention, to help us realize where we are and what we've done.  Have we looked away?  Have we started worrying again when He told us not to?  Have we got fear when He said not to be afraid?  Are we doubting our abilities when He said with Him we could do all things?  Have we sinned and are ashamed?  Are we sinning and don't even realize it? 

So, He asks...."Where are you?".  He asks not to find out for Himself.  He already knows.  He asks so that we can take a look at ourselves and find the answer. 

Where are you?  

Where do you desire to be? 

My prayer:  Dear Jesus, my prayer is that when you ask me, "Brandi, where are you?", that I can say....."I'm right here with You Lord.  I'm walking in Your Will.  I'm awaiting eagerly awaiting Your next instruction.  I'm worry and fear free wrapped up in You.  I am blessed and I am working hard for You and Your kingdom!"
