Famous Gowns: White Ruffled Porch Dress
This is such a pretty little dress…very southern belle. Now if you’ve read the book you may have noticed that in the book Scarlett is wearing her green and white gown in this seen, but the director “felt the "green and white" dress was being used in too much of the film and wanted more variety”. So Scarlett got to wear the white dress.

Dress Description: The bodice of the dress is a relatively simple style with puffed sleeves that are accented with white ruffles. The skirt is also white accented with what appears to be eight rows of ruffles. My favorite part of this costume is the red belt…it is a very unexpected splash of color, but certainly fits into Scarlett’s wardrobe. Other accessories include red hair ribbons, a lovely gold brooch and southern belle style shoes.
Famous Gowns: Green and White Dress
I think this my be one of the most famous gowns from Gone with the Wind. It has been remade countless times and is often seen in costume books and pattern companies.

Dress Description: This dress is made out of a lovely green and white printed fabric (most likely silk) and is worn with a green velvet belt. The neckline is adorned with a large amount of white lace and accented with simple green ribbons. One can not talk about this costume without referring the hat…so I will include her hat in the description. Scarlett’s hat is very dramatic and is simply tied with a large green velvet ribbon… (Possibly the same fabric as the belt)
Historical Styles: Fancy Belts
Civil War ladies often had a large selection of fancy belts. Belts helped to accentuate the waistline and were an excellent place for women to show off their needlework skills. Popular belt fabrics were velvets, silks, wool and other fancy fabrics that were expensive, but made a lovely addition to there dresses. Many ladies also included beaded work and other elements of design onto their belts to add interest and use up scraps from other garments. Nothing was ever wasted….
