9/3/2007 at 19:50 1867 Spanish Ball Gown
This gown was inspired by styles worn in Spain and America during the Civil War.
The gown is made of a dark red heavy silk type fabric with a contrasting black embossed center panel. The top of the sleeves are sewn out of the same fabric as the center, but the lower halves of the sleeves are a sheer chiffon style fabric.
On the front of the bodice there is an overlay of a lace style design that has been sewn on to give the dress texture and detail. Hand embroidery was done down the front along the edge of the black panel.

The back of the gown has been bustled to achieve the silhouette that was beginning to become popular in the late 1860’s. I loved doing this style because it was new to me….I hadn’t done a bustle before so I thought I’d give it a try.

The gown is worn with a large crinoline and black corset...sorry no pictures yet.

I found most of my inspiration for this gown from the costumes in the Zorro movies and other historical styles.
Here is a picture of me and my cousins wearing our Civil War gowns....

It's gorgeous!!! You did a fantastic job and I love the embroidery! All three of y'all's dresses are just beautiful! How difficult is it to make just a simple Civil War era dress? That has been one of my goals in sewing ever since I found out other girls my age were doing it, so I'm just curious. My younger sisters are actually going to beat me to the punch. I'm investing in a retro dress at the moment!
Thanks for leaving me a comment! Have a peachy keen day!

BEAUTIFUL! So Pretty. So how can I order dresses? I would love for you to make me some. And my mom would too. So how do I do this. Can you message me the information? I think I can find out a way to do it. Can I ask you to make like something I would like or does it have to be something you've already made?

Wish I could see the dresses... I will have to go home and see them!!
RYC:
I totally don't think it would have been fun to have a Mr. Collins experience. But it was funny to read.
That is great that this is your last year too. I pmed you about something I want to know if you are interested in.
Mom hasn't decided what science we are doing. I have actually never *really* done science, so we will probably just go through whatever books we have. We are so bad, huh??
What are you doing??
Oh, you got another costume order!! HOORAY!! and a Will Turner one at that. Cool!!
I am doing good. Yeah I totally agree with this, "Busy with getting read for school? I know I am... ,but I love being homeschooled so I don't mind :)"
That is how it is with me!!
As Always...
Love,
SuperAngel Amanda

Hello Brielle,
Wow, that dress is so beautiful! I don't think I'll ever become a good enough seamstress to make a dress like that. You definitely have talent.
Thank you for the comment about my dog. :-)

Hi Brielle,
You're welcome. :) It looked finished to me, what had you not finished yet?
Roses gown was really pretty, too. Did she sew it herself?
I'll add more pronunciation posts as the story goes on, because there will be more names that people may have trouble with. lol

Beautiful!! Those are really pretty. Makes me want to get one.
RYC:
I really did want to go to Smallville. But I thank you for your prayers for something bigger!!
I know about summer flying. I can't believe that its Sept already. *mouth drops*.
I am looking forward to school too. I like doing text books, so I can't wait to open some up!!
Oh glad I am not bad for not doing science. ; ) I hope I understand what we will be learning tho. I am going to read through our Apologia Biology and General Science books. I already too geometry, so I am just finishing algebra and starting accounting. So it will be fun!1
Glad you got all those costume orders, but sorry you had to turn some down. They are missing out on some great craftsmanship!!
I can't wait to see Will's costume. I hope you can get your brother to model it. That would be really helpful, huh??
I am having a good day, hope you are too!!
It is so fun getting to know you more too, and especially since I met you. It's different blogging with people you have met in person and those you haven't!!
"I am glad to have met you, Amanda Brielle, no matter what happens!!"

Amanda

That dress is absolutely beautiful! The red fabric compliments the black very well, and I love the bustle. I can't believe you actually made that! How long did it take you? You did a wonderful job on it.
