Dickens Era Gown and Cape

This dress was inspired by gowns worn during the middle 1800’s. The style is taken from fashions that were popular when Charles Dickens wrote his stories…thus it is a Dickens Era Dress.

-----------------Costume Description-------------

Extra Design Style: My customer wanted the costume to look like a Dickens Era gown, but she also wanted a little bit of an Asian influence to it. So the mandarin collar and Asian style trim helped to give it that look.

-------------Dress----------------

The dress is made of a dark blue taffeta like fabric that has a very pretty pattern woven into it. The lining of the gown is a light weight fabric that swishes and swirls without adding extra weight to the dress.

The neckline of the gown is accented with a silver clasp and blue and black trims.

Sleeve Cuffs

The sleeve cuffs are made of a satin linen fabric that has a scrolling pattern woven into it. They button up with antique shell buttons.

Along the hem of the lining there is a light gray lace that peaks out while walking.

---------------Cape-----------------

The Cape is made of a dark blue fabric that has a good texture and drape to it. Lined with a dark blue silk style fabric it swishes very nicely and is not heavy. The cape has a full hood that is gently curved around the face. The hemline is cut shorter in the front and back to allow for ease of walking.

The neck of the cape is closed with two silver buttons that have an Asain style design.

Some of my inspiration came from the gown worn by many of the ladies in the book and movies of...  A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

If you are interested in any Dickens Era costumes please contact me…. I’d love to hear from you. Thank you...

                                                     Sincerely,

                                                            Brielle

And, of course, I would come to the library on highspeed to look at your beautiful costumes, but alas, the library doesn't allow photobucket! Ack!

Maybe you could just send one of each pic to me? ; )

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow, those are amazing! I just love your costumes, Brielle.

How many years have you been sewing? I have for over 10 years, and I can't sew fancy stuff like that! Although for a long time, I've just been attacking my fabric with just a needle and thread instead of a machine. It takes a lot longer to do things, but I enjoy it.

Love in Christ,
Jen

Dear Brielle
Yes, I think you should leave the green, and the maroon goes nicely with it. My new blog colours will actually be a navy blue/green/tan and maybe a maroon-ish colour. I don’t know yet.

I finally got the pictures to load, btw, and they are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

We had a quiet thanksgiving – alone – but it was good. We actually had turkey on Sunday, in which I spent (and Hannie) spent 5hours cooking and cleaning… whew.

I wish you could’ve done something for the Bundle too. I know you would have been a lovely addition, but there is next year and I hope you will be available to do it then.

Oh, and we watched X-man 3 the other night. Amanda and Mom were on a marathon. lol

Love you,
Jocelyn
