Arwen Battle Costume

                                         Arwen’s Battle Costume

This costume was custom made for a customer that wanted a costume inspired by the one that Arwen wore in the extra scene in Lord of the Rings: Two Towers. This scene was cut from the movie, but there are still some images of Arwen’s costume that she would have worn at Helms Deep.

A few images of the Movie Costume: .

Please note this costume was inspired by the orginal, the customer prefered that some changes be made and because there are not many images to go on…I looked to other Elven styles for inspiratation

My version of the costume is pictured below.

This costume consists of a coat dress, matching belt and an elven style gown.

The underdress is made of a crinkled silk satin in a dusty rose color.

DSCF2060.jpg picture by wintercreek DSCF2069.jpg picture by wintercreek

The skirt is made with flaired godets and a riding slit up the front and the back. The gown also features an attached belt that is made of the same silk fabric.  Graceful lines and lots of elven details finish off the dress.

blog4.jpg picture by wintercreek blog6.jpg picture by wintercreek

The sleeves on the underdress are lined with a silk burnout velvet fabric that swish and sway with every movement.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Coat Dress is made of pure silk velvet and lined with a pretty satin.

blog7.jpg picture by wintercreek blog9.jpg picture by wintercreek

A long row of ornate silver buttons finish the coat and can be worn buttoned or unbuttoned with the same elegant look.

DSCF2154.jpg picture by wintercreek blog8.jpg picture by wintercreek

The collar features piping and is fully lined in the soft silk velvet.

blog13.jpg picture by wintercreek

At the shoulders there are long attached wing like pieces that really give the costume that elven look without adding too much bulk. The coat also featured riding slits up the back.

Below is a photo of the back, the "wings" are best viewed when someone is wearing it.

I also created a matching bag to go with the costume....

Customer Comments: a note from the lady who I made the costume for......

"The gown arrived safely on Friday, and the pictures certainly didn't do it justice at all! I'm so impressed by the attention to detail, and it fits so well! And, honestly, I prefer it to the original film costume. It was amazing to try it on for the first time, it's everything I had hoped for and then some! Thank you! :)" - Arwen

Very pretty!

Thanks for the comments on my blogs. The Christian Bale Batman is my favorite superhero, too. The newest Hulk movie is the only one I've seen.

I have fabric for a bunch of projects...one is inspired by Eowyn's funeral gown, one by Susan's farewell dress (I still haven't gotten around to working on that any), one is an Elvish/medieval dress, and there are two I posted pictures of the fabric for...I haven't done much sewing lately because of school and general busyness, but I hope to make progress soon.

I normally wouldn't buy fabric for so many projects without finishing any, but I had a 50% off coupon for JoAnn's that I used for the fabric for the Eowyn dress, and the rest is mostly fabric I was given, or $1 a yard fabric from Wal-Mart. I heard all of the Wal-Marts are going to stop selling fabric, so I figured I should make use of them while they still have it. :)

Yes, it would! Then I'd send you an autographed copy. ^_^ hehe

Thank you! Oooh, that sounds so cool. I actually may be able to go to Disney World on my mom's birthday... since they're doing that get in free on your birthday thing... I hope so...

Hey, did you ever get an idea for a costume for that party your family was going to?

I just love that amethyst and royal purple combination...it's so regal and pure looking.

Great job!

A lady who lives down the street from us has been teaching us handiwork things such as knitting, etc. and she plans on teaching us how to weave (she has three looms and a spinning wheel or two and might let us borrow some!). I can't wait to learn that - have you ever tried weaving? I think it would be so neat to custom design your own fabric - though I know it would take a lot of work.

Bonjour,

heehee

Man... how do you keep everything sorted with all those costume requests?

School is pretty good. Working on menues for resort restaurants in my QuarkXPress class. It's actually kind of fun putting stuff like that together. I have to figure out how to save them so I can upload them to dA.

I haven't had an actualy web design class, yet... that comes sometime... but I know a little bit from setting up my own LOTR website a while back. I know way more about the graphics side than code right now, though I have taught myself a lot with code. What do you need to know?

The weather has been really nice! In the 60's and 70's, though today it was around 80, but we have a cool breeze. I love Florida autumn/winter weather. :)

I can't wait to see your Water Nyad project!!!!!!! It sound so cool! :) How are you doing in that class? Do you know what grade you have so far?

Oooh wow... that site is really cool, pretty circlets!!!!!!!!!

ttyl,

Jennifer

Yes, I'm posting pictures of what we make. I posted a few just last night on my blog.

Let me know if you have any good ideas for new projects to try - so far we've only made hats, scarves and dish cloths. I tried making a purse, but it turned out so narrow it looks more like a stocking. I'll have to try that one again.

11/10/2008 - a note from your sweet cousin

Posted by Rose at 18:50

Hello Dearest,
Oh, Arwen turned out lovely! Although she was right, the pictures just can't show all of your immaculate work. ;)

It was fun going to the play with you guys the other night! They did so good.

Oh, I wanted to tell you. I bought fabric (and a pattern) for a purse. The main fabric is a pale pink microsuede, trimmed with the same fabric my rosy blouse is made of, and lined with green paisley quilter's cotton....I think it is going to be really cute. I can't wait to start working on it!

Love you and see you later,
Rebekah
P.S.
I'm printing off Cake recipes from Grandma Marian..there are so many yummy ones!

Salutations,

I've been good... well, sick, actually. I think I got it from one of my classmates, not sure. A bit better today, nose is still runny but I don't feel stuffed... lol

School is goodish.. my Illustrator class is confusing because the professor doesn't really explain what he wants and we have the midterm this Thursday, I think, and I have no idea how to study for it... the book doesn't help and I need the program right in front of me to use the study guide... gr. lol Um... what do you mean by winter term? Here it's Fall semesters and Spring semesters, along with the summer semesters. My last class day is Dec 16, I think. Then I start spring semester January... something. lol I have six classes for next semester.... but since the graphic design ones are only half semester, it'll be like taking four.

Oh, that class does sound cool. :) You should do a post on here all about your class, with pics, too. ;)

I did some more editing but recently I haven't been doing much... did start on a fan fiction for a show I like. haha Had an idea and wanted to write it down.

Yup, Jane Austen doll. :) Well, if you want a second one in Jane Austen style, I can do that. :) Just tell me what type of dress (ball gown, one with the jacket, etc) and what color(s).

OOOOH! Coolies!!! hehe That should be really nice. :) Will you be making the white gown, too? Or just the riding costume? And that is a good buy for the fabric.

Have a nice Sunday,

Jennifer

11/24/2008 - ~ Hey There! ~

Posted by SincerelyAmanda at 23:48

Today I learned how to purl (another stitch in knitting). I hope to make a basic knit purse soon. Abigail and I have considered knitting costumes for our little movie productions. I like to visit www.lionbrandyarn.com for knitting pattern ideas.

Well, our movie is (or was, since we might not ever finish this one before we get bored and move on to something else!) about a talented swordsman apprentice who is corrupted by pride - and then kills his master - and then faces his master's son years later. Rachel wanted to write the script (I only wrote some of the dialogue in the first scene), so she knows more about the story than I do (as in, how it will actually end).

Keep in touch!
