Susan’s Green Archery Dress

This costume was inspired by the gown worn by Susan in the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Susan receives this gown while in Aslan’s Camp…. She often wears it with her leather belt and cape.

The Over Dress is made of a pretty dark green wool blend fabric that adds a nice drape and swish to the dress and is accented with hand sewn embroidery, slashed sleeves and eyelets laced with a small leather cord at the neckline.

The dress is fitted with princess seams that flow out in a full skirt that gives freedom of movement and elegance at the same time.
Please note that this fabric is actually very close to the movie color, if I had taken the pictures outside on a sunny day it would have had the movie effect, but the day I did the pictures it was very snowy and wet.
Below are a few images of the sleeve embroidery:

The Under Dress is made of a silky cream fabric that feels very smooth and nice under the outer dress. Sleeves are laced at the high cuff for a close fit, perfect for doing archery. The back is closed with an invisible zipper and is fitted with rows of princess seams that flow out into a full skirt.

Wow! What a great job you did. I love this dress. Will you ever made it in a brighter color like the one she wears? I have always wanted one of these dresses.

Hi,
Thanks for commenting on my blog! Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but my e-mail didn't alert me to new comments and I went back manually to check on that post.
I would still like to make Susan's Farewell Gown, but I settled for Susan's Purple Gown from Prince Caspian for Halloween instead. I will be posting some pictures of that, as well as my bow and quiver, if you wanted to take a look. My main problem with making Susan's Farewell Gown was the issue of the underdress and sleeves. Neither I or my mother could figure that out. I did wind up making another Narnia costume (I don't know if you saw it or not) for a friend. It is Lucy's Rust Gown, also from Prince Caspian, and I do have pictures of it on my blog.
Also, I really like the Archery Dress you made, the wool is a nice color and hangs well =). It also looks a lot like Susan's. Great job!

Oh Brielle! *gasps in happy wonder* This is so beautiful!! I have always loved this dress. How I wish I had something coming up soon that I could wear it for! But just so I can ponder it... how much would you say it would cost to order this from you in a petite small-ish size?
Thanks for your comment! I hope you have a wonderful new year as well!

Thanks so much for putting me on your friends list!
Ah, yes, the lightsaber battles. They actually make very nice lightsabers that light up and make the noise, but they're somewhere around 30-50 dollars. :( I guess I'll stick with my plastic one.
I really love your Jane Austen dresses! I'm currently reading 'Pride and Prejudice' and I wish people still dressed like that! :)
Thanks again,

Hello,
Thank you. :) Esmeralda was very hard to draw for some reason. I was working on another of her, but just couldn't finish it. I may do it sometime later, or make it a realistic drawing. I love doing realistic drawings of the Disney girls.
Thank you. :) Ugh, don't even mention that movie! LOL My sister (if she becomes a director) should remake Eragon and have you as the costume designer. :D heehee
Pretty dress! So, like, when you make these dresses, when do you where them?

Wow! That's really cool. I made that dress too, except it's made of Taffeta and it's not nearly as good.
Love,
Lucy

OHHHHHH! Oh my goodness, I love that dress! I was actually thinking of asking you to make one for me but it didn't work out... however, if I ever have a lot of extra spending money I know who I'll turn to!! That is so absolutely beautiful! I love it! You're so talented!
Just out of curiousity: I know it probably depends on the size and fabric, etc., but how much did it cost for this dress?
In His Love,
~Kylie

Also, I told my dad how much I loved the dress, and he suggested I could also ask you how much it would be if you put a pattern together for this dress and we would buy it from you.
Once again, just wondering! :)

You are doing a very good job! Keep on doing it! Have you ever considered doing Civil War period clothes? That Susan dress looks exactly like the one in the movie!

My sisters and I have been sewing costumes for our film project...I think we should try the Susan dress style for the girls (it has a nice medieval look).

Wow! Your work is amazing! Such attention to details! Am I right in understanding you die your own fabric? How do you make the designs on the fabric? I LOVE sewing and would love to make a similar dress.
Thank You!
