What is Your Definition of 'Keeper of the Home'?

Posted in Family News from the WOLFpack

Earlier today, I was asked this question on an e-mail list that I'm a member of.  Below is my answer and I would LOVE to know YOURS!  KW<><

Myself, I have to include homeschooling in my personal definition…as I am a homeschool mom.  I consider it both a vocation and a ministry…as I have also been our county’s homeschool coordinator for the past 11 years (and I’m passing the torch on the 20th!!).

I consider being a keeper of my home as having a finger-print on everything in the home.  If you were to look around my home you would see decorations I’ve made, cross-stitches I’ve labored over, flowers I’ve arranged, furniture I’ve refinished w/my dad, curtains and pictures I’ve hung, antique tins I’ve collected and displayed.  You would smell food I’ve either just taken out of the oven or that I’m cooking for a coming meal, soap laying out to season, herbs in my windowsill.  You might hear music circulating through the house from any one of our rooms, birds singing through the newly washed windows, the laughter of my wonderful daughters as they lean their heads together for a bit of girl talk or when they’re joking around with my hubby and me.

When I think of a keeper of the home…I think of a mother’s attitude guided by the Lord so that she can keep it all in order.  As a keeper of the home we can – for good or bad – demonstrate that old saying “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!”  If “Momma” has let the Lord help her to keep her home, then even though we live in a fallen world,  peace will reign, order will be found and love will be felt.

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

aaack! no I didn't realize that about Crowley. I JUST put that one up this morning too LOL. THANKs for telling me!! ha oh dear.

well, thanks for stopping in, I just deleted 1/2 of my entries b/c they were too hard-line lol.

As for the question above; To me "Keeper of the Home" is being the manager of all, however I don't think we are supposed to think our home a permanent thing here, so I'm not too attached to fine and fancy things and can say "no great loss" to stuff. It also means, for me, that I am the Keeper of my Kids' hearts :)

Have a great week
Denise

Wow, that's a good question, as well as one that takes some thought. For me, it's dying to self. Something I have to work at every day. One might think that keeping my home would be about me, why should I die to self? My self would just sit here all day long, let things go, not care what example I was setting. Self serves self, not others. All the examples of the best homes I have ever had the blessing to visit are those of moms/wives who have died to self. Not fancy homes, but happy homes.
