The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ #54 ~ 11/23/09

For Today...

Outside my window...grey, dreary day. Looks like it could even snow.

I am thinking...how blessed I am to live in America. Even though we have lost the ability to do so much, so quickly, we still have so much more than people in most other countries.

I am thankful for...still having a home, cars & not going hungry. And for our precious DD#2 who is taking it upon her sweet, young shoulders to volunteer her paycheck to buy Thanksgiving dinner for us! God bless her richly!

From the kitchen...Baked a new loaf of flaxseed bread. Where would we be w/o it? :-)

I am wearing...jeans, black turtleneck.

I am remembering…that this too, shall pass.

I am going…to pick up DD#2 from work & stop by my Dr's office for some med samples to tide me over 'til I can make an appointment w/him. PTL for free samples!!

I am reading...Habbukuk. Short & oh, so powerful.

I am hoping...for miracles!

On my mind…the generousity & love of our sweet DD#2 (DD#1 ain't bad, either!)

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...radio.

Noticing that…my attitude effects everyone in our home; a smile to a stranger can change an outcome.

Pondering these words…"Encourage each other, as long as it is called 'Today.'"

Around the house...the Monday routine ~ laundry, bread baking, errands, taking DD#2 to/from work...

One of my favorite things...winning a contest! I was so shocked, last week, to have found out that I was blessed to have won a contest at
www.teenytinycabin.com!! I received my beautiful homemade, primitive-style gifts from Claudia today!!!!!! PTL!! Made my day!

A Scripture thought...II Cor. 1:3-4 ~ "Praise be to the God & Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion & the God of all comfort, Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble w/the same comfort we ourselves have received from God."

A few plans for the rest of the week...maintain the peace & sanity of our home. Having my mom & brother over to share Thanksgiving w/our family. HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Maggie alwayse makes me smile.

For Today...

Outside my window...grey, windy. Clouds gathering for rain, temps lowering.

I am thinking...that I need to get off of here & do some housework!

I am thankful for...having a home to do housework in!

From the kitchen...made Snickerdoodle cookies from a new recipe this weekend; made 2 batches b/c everyone liked them so much. I'd say it was a success.

I am wearing...jeans, black mock turtleneck shirt.

I am remembering…my dad, today. I must have dreamt about him last night b/c I woke up w/him on my mind. He passed away in June of '99. Miss his sweet face, his smile, his humor & his level-headed advice.

I am going…to the Old Order German Baptist farms & farm stores for butter, fresh whole farm milk, & pepper bacon!

I am reading..."Lies Women Believe" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I'm getting ready to teach it for a women's Sunday School when Winter Quarter starts in Dec.

I am hoping...for miracles.

On my mind…my DD#1 & her choices.

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...the radio, typing fingers, DD#2 moving through the house.

Noticing that…last night I noticed how 'old' my hands are looking. Back when I modeled, I also did some 'hand modeling' for jewelry adds, etc. Seems my hands are finally catching up w/my 50 yrs.

Pondering these words…"The Lord loves a cheerful giver." II Cor. 9:7(b)

Around the house...Monday 'stuff.' Laundry, bread baking, farm store shopping, cleaning...

One of my favorite things...a good attitude & willing heart in my daughters.

A few plans for the rest of the week...keeping up w/my mom, taking DD#2 to/from work, keeping on top of everyone's schedules, being wife & mom.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

An example of the Amish roll butter that I need to get today. :-P

For Today...

Outside my window...grey & over-cast. A cold front moving in after our 2nd Indian Summer. But that's OK...it's fall, after all. :-)

I am thinking...that I need to get ready to leave. My DD#2 & I are going to lunch w/my mom.

I am thankful for...still having a warm house, cars & not missing a meal during my DH's layoff.

From the kitchen...lunch out w/my mom this afternoon; possibly pasta & sauce for supper.

I am wearing...jeans, & a red, pink & white shirt.

I am reading...sermon notes.

I am hoping...things will go well w/my mom while we're out. She's not a happy woman & it can wear on us.

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...radio, DD#2 in the shower, a neighbor's leave blower.

Around the house...laundry, dusting, running sweeper, dust-mopping kitchen & bathrooms.

One of my favorite things...a hot mug of Hazelnut or Vanilla Biscotti coffee on a cold, dark morning.

A few plans for the rest of the week...household chores, taking DD#2 to/from work, praying for miracles.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

This is the Collins Schoolhouse in 1854. This was a working schoolhouse until the 1940's. The family who now owns it has hired 2-3 retired teachers who now 'teach school' for school & homeschool field trips; an entire day just like in the 1800's. When our girls were little you homeschool group went there - it was great - the kids dressed up, took lunches in a pail or basket, they drank from the well, played old-fashioned games, the school was heated by the Franklin stove, they worked from McGuffey Readers on their slates, make bookmarks. This was also a year when we were working through "The Priarie Primer" unit study, so it was awesome!

For Today...

Outside my window...Lovely, crisp fall morning. Sunshine but colder temps. Gorgeous leaves falling & blowing across the yard & driveway.

I am thinking...about things I need to do.

I am thankful for...a generous local frig repair man who had to come back out this morning & didn't charge me for it b/c he knows my DH had been out of work for 6 months. God bless him!

From the kitchen...a frig w/ice! :-) Peanut butter/jelly on homemade bread for lunch, probably pasta & sauce for supper.

I am wearing...jeans, black slip-over shirt, camel-colored cardigan. Look! No hoodie on a Monday morning! roflol!!

I am reading...still reading the "Yukon Quest" 3-books-in-1 book. Got side-tracked but I'm back to it now.

I am hoping...for miracles!

I am creating...a peaceful home.

I am hearing...the radio.

Around the house...both DDs are off work today! They stayed up late last night catching up from their weeks - I could hear them talking & laughing (a wonderful sound) until late/early - so I'm going to let them sleep as long as they want. That doesn't happen much these days & I just enjoy knowing that they're in the house.

One of my favorite things...a cozy house, a cup of hot coffee in hand, lounging on the couch or love-seat while watching a DVD w/my family.

A few plans for the rest of the week...laundry, taking DD#1 to work/home, taking my mom to the eye Dr for a post-op check-up. Making re-fills of laundry detergent, toothpaste, dish washer detergent...several things have run out all at once.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

These are the items I use to make laundry detergent.

For Today...

Outside my window...beautiful sunshine & glorious fall color! A carpet of leaves in our yard so thick you can't see the grass! :-)

I am thinking...I need to get off here & do some housework.

I am thankful for...still having a house to clean! Yesterday's opportunity to lead worship at church. When you've done something every week for years & then take a break, you realize what a blessing & priviledge it is.

From the kitchen...DD#2 is off work today & treating me to lunch; not sure about supper, yet.

I am wearing...jeans, burgandy sweat shirt.

I am reading...II Cor.

I am hoping...for the Lord to knock me in the head w/the answer to a prayer! '-)

I am creating...a peaceful home; a household of faith.

I am hearing...the radio, DD#2 puttering around.

Around the house...need to call someone to look at our leaky frig; praying it won't cost what we don't have.

One of my favorite things...walking outside in the crisp fall air smelling the leaves mixed w/the fragrance of neighbor's fireplace smoke. You don't need $$ for that!

A few plans for the rest of the week...taking DD#2 to/from work, laundry, checking on my mom, caring for my family...

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

This is titled: "1700's Cabin Scene" & think it's lovely.

I am thinking...how much I LOVE the fall & all the color.

I am wearing...jeans, navy blue turtle neck shirt, 'old gold' hoodie.

I am creating...a business plan.

I am hearing...the radio & my fingers typing.

Around the house...DH & DD#2 are at work, DD#1 is off today & is upstairs reading. Getting ready to pick up DD#2. Around that schedule I am doing laundry, making bread, praying & planning for my dream business...

One of my favorite things...bright fall color. Ohio is such a beautiful place in the fall!

A few plans for the rest of the week...house-hold up-keep, brushing/bathing the dog, keeping track of everyone's schedule...'-)

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

I lady I went to high school w/recently visited from TX, after 20+ years. While she was up, she, another good friend & I got together. In TX, she has a jewelry business, & she gifted us w/matching bracelets she had made. The center stone of all of our bracelets was cut from the same stone!
