Notions of a Texas Ranch Girl

Nov. 21, 2007

Hello from Texas!

Guess I will have to change blog name, since we are officially Texans again!   Yes, we decided to move back first of October, but only told my in-laws and parents we were moving.   So we got to surprise my siblings and all the cousins, etc.

We left Nov 5th from Juneau, after a month of packing, moving sale, shipping boxes, etc. etc., and a day of 4-5" snow.

We were on the ferry for 3 full days and 4 nights.   The ferry was great, we all slept like babies (even the baby), because of the gentle motion, motor and soft bunks!   It was very relaxing.    We were on the Malaspina (this is a painting of it by Terry Pyle):

I saw several lighthouses along the way:

Morgan, Luke, Sawyer and I toured around Ketchikan on one stop:

We then had seven days of travel through Washington, where I stopped and met an online friend I had never met IRL (in real life) before.  She and her family were so sweet.  This is Katie and I:

We then went through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and into Texas.   We made a stop at the Battle of Little Big Horn monument and ate the BEST red meat in a while (Nathan had the ribeye, I  had the Crazy Woman Prime Rib) at the Bozeman Trail Steakhouse in Buffalo Wyoming.  In Denver we stayed over with a high school friend of Nathan's, Andy and his wife and fam:

Drove through Garden of the Gods:

Picking cotton between Lubbock and San Angelo:

We bought several audio cd's for the trip, so we listened to Winnie-the-Pooh, The Hobbit and Tom Sawyer along the way.   As you can see, we  had excellent weather the whole time (answered prayer) and Nathan's back didn't hurt too much the whole way (more answered prayer).   We won't discuss the cat escapades along the way.  I'll save that for another blog.

Its so nice to be back in Texas.   If any one has any ideas of what I should rename my blog, let me know.  I hope to continue blogging to keep my blogger friends and Alaska friends updated on our Texas adventures!

Wow we are both doing similar things in reverse. We leave Colorado Springs in about two weeks to head up to the Anchorage area. We will be visiting friends and family in Utah and Washington before getting on the ferry in Bellingham. in mid December. Looks like you had a great trip.

Hi there. Wow, when you don't blog wild things happen there. Babies, moving .... WOW. I think your blog name is fine. Maybe Texan Notions of a once-Alaskan girl. I'm going to miss your photos from a place I've always wanted to go. It sounds like the trip back to Texas was a long one. How long did it take? Does your husband have a new job in Texas? I pray he has or will find a great one. Good to see your wonderful family again. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

That picture of the cotton fields just made my husband so nostalgic. He's from Brownsville, TX, and when he took me to visit his family for the first time, we drove home (through the Valley) and I was so amazed by the cotton.
Hope you guys get settled quickly.
Blessings,
Jennifer

Dec. 18, 2007 - Merry Christmas! Passing along my favorite song

Posted by teachermom2boys
"O holy night the stars ar brightly shining, it is th enight of the dear Saviours birth; long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt it's worth. A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn; Fall on your knees, oh, hear the angel voices O night divine, o night when Christ was born! o night o holy night, o night divine!

Wow - I had no idea! We were in Montana (and drove to Bozeman) in early December, spent several weeks in Denver in October/November, and also saw the cotton in West Texas. Welcome home sweet friend.

I feel just terrible for not keeping up with you.

Love, Angela
