Have you ever had what I call a "magical moment"? Its one of those moments in time where all the pieces come together, the negative ions line up, the forces of the universe all come together for a perfect moment. Nathan and I have had only a couple we can remember, but our most vivid took place after going to Vail, Colorado for a yearly church festival. On the way home we decided to drive west and then south to Ouray, Colorado.
We arrived in Ouray after nightfall, and after searching without any luck for a good camping site, we decided to take a 4-wheel drive road up into the national forest and take our chances upon finding a good spot. After twisting and turning up the narrow dirt road, with a face of the mountain on one side and a drop-off on the other, we finally pulled over when the bumps and ruts got the better of our little Ford ranger. We really had no idea what our surroundings were like, but lost consciousness as the ambrosia of hot chocolate filled our cold, tired bodies, huddled under the camper shell.
The next morning we awoke to the most awesome sight we had ever seen. Words really can't describe the color of the aspens, the sun shining perfectly on them, the cool crisp weather, the valley descending below us. On a dancefloor covered with golden coins, Nathan celebrated the wonder of it all with a little jig. It was a moment of joy, a blessing from God, a taste of pure beauty and grace that burned its memory on our hearts that magical morning.
