What kind of "creation" are you???

What kind of creation are you???

Some things have been at the fore front of my mind these past few months. My family and I are constantly bombarded with images of immodesty, irresponsibility, and apathy. All of which we are subject to in the very church we attended. So my question is, “What kind of creations are people these days?” Are they new creations in Christ or just a slightly re-purposed version of the original? When I say re-purposed I mean in reality they remain the same, with just some “new paint and stenciling”. I see people in church playing the part or some not playing the part at all, what I do not see as frequently is real transformations of spirit and character. Galatians 6:15b “what counts is a new creation.”  A popular phrase comes to mind…”Sunday Christians.” Why is it that so many call themselves Christians and yet do not embrace the new creation our Lord Jesus Christ bought and paid for with his very life? If we look at the meaning of the term or name Christian, it literally means “Little Christ.” If we are dressing inappropriately, allowing our children to dress the same, acting without love, and respect for others, without prayer and supplication, we are not acting as a “little Christ.” We are continuing to act like a fallen people. 2 Corinthians 5:11 “What we are, is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.”  I am not inferring that we will be able to live without sin as a new creation; human beings can not be sinless thus the need for the Savior. What I am saying is that we need to try a little harder folks. Accepting watered down Christianity, and a sugar coated Gospel because it is easier to swallow is not putting off the old and putting on the new, which comes from the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” We are attempting to put on our own version of new. That is relying on our own wisdom.

In a lot of churches now you do not even need to bring your own bible. It’s all up on the power point for you. Now I’m not saying power points are bad, but come on, there should be some encouraging to venture into the scriptures yourself, so as to own your relationship with the Father. I am also not suggesting that this is not a good tool especially for the potential new believers. There needs to be “meat” for the mature Christians as well. It’s not about numbers, and bodies in the “pews.” My husband and I have experienced these things first hand at the various churches we have visited in the last few years. They sure are pretty and high tech, with their state of the art sound systems, coffee bars and Sunday daycare centers in place of Sunday school. There is no accountability even to the children to learn of the Lord and His ways. At the church my husband I recently visited there were not even bibles, chairs, tables or boards that would indicate teaching took place. Instead there were tons of toys, video games, TVs and DVD players. When we asked our kids what they learned, they had blank looks on their faces, and said, “We never started really.” If you question the actions of the Sunday school teachers, their response is something like, “well we do not want to push kids into an uncomfortable experience” WHAT?! It does not have to be uncomfortable. At what point do you teach ownership of Faith, and the responsibility of following Christ? Obviously not in worship either, because somebody could become offended. The only way Jesus offends is when you feel convicted!

It seems to me that many “followers” are asleep today. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. Not really knowing what is being fed to them, and who it may come from. We are told to “test everything,” 1 Thessalonians 5:21. Many walk around trusting the wrong sources, because it is easier than finding and following the truth. It proves easier than fighting the wrong attitudes that persist. “If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em.” Well that’s not going to cut it with the Lord. If you are going around emulating that which He directs us to steer away from, then you just may blend in, and look as one that does not belong to Him.

I urge those that may read this to take a moment and reflect on recent attitudes, and behaviors that the Creator may wish to “spit out of His mouth.” Are you lukewarm; what kind of creation are you?

Galatians 6:9

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

I went to a church in the south that showed more cleavege on Sunday morning than I would expect to see in a bar. I'm not really on the very conservative dress camp but cleavage in church?? It really bothered me...I didn't attend there very long.

Wow! We really do have a lot in common! Konos has been my main curriculum for the last 3 years. I decided to take a break from it to do the Prairie Primer because I didn't want to lug my 3 huge volumes with me across the country! Konos has been a huge blessing to us, though, and I do love it! Same with Math-U-See! I'm adding you to my friends list so we can keep in touch! :)

Thank you for what you wrote. It is such a shame that so many Christians don't mind 'blending' in with the world when God calls us to be separate. 'Watered down' Christianity and 'Sunday Christians' seem to be so common, it's heartbreaking. I have always attended the same denomination church my whole life, however, we have tried two other churches since we moved here and were surprised and disappointed with the modesty, music, and how the atmosphere and preaching seemed to want to please people and make them feel encouraged and good instead of convicted, challenged, and repentent. It's so sad to see so many 'Christians' living lives of defeat and in slavery to their sins, when Christ came to give us victory and to live life more abundantly... if only we could daily die to ourselves and have the eternal perspective that we ought.

I have this verse in the front of my Bible and I replace the word 'Israel' with my name... perhaps we should all keep this as a reminder...
Deuteronomy 10:12 ~ "And now, Israel (our name),
what doth the LORD thy God require of thee,
but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him,
and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul"

Perhaps we do not meditate long enough on God's Word and truly let it sink in. There are a lot of powerful words in Scripture that sometimes we only take at face value, when there is much deeper meaning that we can overlook.

Thank you for sharing this reminder...

The church we attend is similar. Modesty is out the window-- and I do not look forward to summer. Powerpoint, etc. is more important than the shallow lesson. One thing I do enjoy is a mix of hymns and praise songs and we don't sing them over and over. We are in a holding pattern right now.
