A Day in Life

A Day in Life

We knew it was going to happen sometime.  What we didn’t know was when and where.  We are relieved to know that is over.

Ok, What?  We have an elderly man living near us.  He used to be our next-door neighbor until we moved up the hill and across the street last February.  This man is reaching up to tickle 80 and he doesn’t have to reach very far.  A WWll Veteran, who we can thank for helping to keep this country safe, living in squalor.  For whatever reason, he has chosen to live in his home is spite of the fact he is unable to care for himself.  Late yesterday afternoon he fell.  We don’t know why, except that the Lord let my husband find him lying near the entrance of his home.  My husband said it looked like he had pulled himself to where he could shade his head.  We have no idea how long it was that he laid there until he was found.  As of this writing he is in an Intensive Care Unit.  We are relieved that he was outside, in that if he had been inside we wouldn’t have been able to find him.

I hope that if I ever get near the point of time that I cannot care for myself, I will be able to accept it gracefully and make such arrangements.  I would hate to give up my home and my car keys.  I’m asking the Lord to help me do it when the time comes.

I have wondered how his children can allow their father to live like that.  Do they not have eyes to see or noses to smell?  I wonder about what their home life must have been like.

I would have never have guessed that a person could be allowed to live like that.  To keep an animal in such conditions would be against the law, but people are allowed to live like that?

He responded well when my husband visited him this afternoon.  He's out of the ICU and in a room now.  They think he had a stroke, but aren't positive yet. When the family found out about their father, they came to town and have been with him.  His truck and trailer will be moved to the out of town daughter's property and cleaned.

Thank you for your prayers!

Thank the Lord your hubby found him. I see this in our small town also. We are on the local volunteer fire department and we get called to some of the nastiest houses. Why do people live that way? It doesn't take money to keep a house clean, just time and effort. I know that when you get older it isn't easy. I agree, where is his family?

Jul. 22, 2005 - Us too

When we were home schooling in Iowa over 10 years ago (we are in Indiana now) we also had a little hermit elderly man that the Lord allowed us to finally reach for Christ. He, too, lived in horrible conditions and he had no family. He had never married, and his other relatives -- aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews despised him for whatever reason. He was a very odd fellow, but we kept sending cookies we made to him. It's a long story, but eventually he made it to our table for Thanksgiving. He eventually made it to our church, too. He would practice driving his old car one block to the church, park in the parking lot, until one day he actually went inside. One night he fell, and he ended up in the hospital. His house was condemened, and he has since passed away. I believe God sends US to be their "family." Thank God your husband found the elderly gentleman! God truly cares for His children. I hope you'll keep us posted on him!

Jul. 22, 2005 - families

As Karla said in her comment, God does bring lonely people in touch with those who care. Scripture tells us that God puts the lonely in families, and this is just one of the ways He may do it.

Praise the Lord that Ray was there. We will be praying.

It seems that each person is to add a new question, so mine will be # 6. When you answer these on your blog, you should add a question and send it to 5 more bloggers.

To find out my answers, you will have to come to my blog.

1. What is your favorite all-time movie?

2. Where is your favorite place on earth?

3. Do you run a home business, and if yes, then what is it you do?

4. What are some lessons in life you had to learn the hard way?

5. As a parent, what is the one thing you are (or would be) happiest to see in your children?

6. Who do you most consider to be your role model, the person you most want to be like? (No fair saying Jesus. Pick someone else.)
