• Jun. 10, 2009 - A Lovely Trip To Tennessee
I had the pleasure of visiting a close friend of mine in TN this past week that I met in a store in Michigan about 4 years ago. You can read about the way we met here. It truly is very amazing how God can bring friends together and how He can use friendships for His glory. This makes me realize all the more that God is perfectly capable of bringing my future husband all in His time and in His own way! Who would have thought that when this girl came up to me in the store, a life long friendship was started? Certainly I didn't! God is good!
We met in Kentucky last Sunday afternoon and spent a glorious week in sweet friendship. We had plenty of time to study God's Word together (which was something we'd been wanting to do for a LONG time), talk, talk some more, take good long walks, pray together, bake cookies, go out to Chinese, eat popcorn with M&M's sprinkled on top and much more. For days after I arrived, I was told that my friend still couldn't believe I was finally there.
I experienced sheer terror while swinging from my arms that where holding on to a tire swing tied to a tree suspended (at the highest point) about 30 feet above the ground...and almost died. I had the hugest laugh attack while lying in bed one night and almost died from lack of air. I was constantly teased about my northern accent (which I'm still convinced I don't have). I almost died from lack of air again when I was talking about a gallon jar of honey and my friend’s sister couldn't understand what I was saying because I was pronouncing my 'a' wrong. Good cow. I also had my purse stolen.
On my last day in TN, we went to a lake to have a short swim. Everybody in the house came and it was a good ol' time. We spent about 45 minutes there, and then had to hurry home so we could be back in KY around 6 in the evening. About half way back to the house, I found that my purse was missing from the seat where I had left it. My friends older sister tried calling my cell phone, but found that it was shut off--which was odd because it was fully charged and on when we left. We turned around and went back to the lake thinking that whoever stole my purse might have just dropped it off because there was nothing worth while in it (which wasn't true, of course!). Unfortunately, we couldn't find it. *Sigh*
It was odd because after we got to the lake the first time, this guy came out of the bushes in front of where we had parked and then went and sat back in his white pick-up. We didn't think anything about this until we came back the second time and he was STILL sitting there. Why, after about 40 minutes, would he still be there? He talked to us and asked us what we were looking for. We quickly explained and he goes "Oh, you'll find it." Hmmmm.....we though. How odd.
After more looking, a couple of guys came up to our car and told us that they had seen a tan truck pull up to ours, open the door, take something, and leave. They gave us the license plate number of the truck, and went back to their fishing. Now we had an eye witness account and could call the police! As soon as my friends older sister got out her cell phone, the guy (who was STILL sitting there and watching us) in the white pick-up left. We called the police and after about 20 minutes, they finally got there. We gave them the license plate number and all the other information she needed. While we were finishing up our stuff, the guy in the white pick-up came back. Very suspicious.
So, to this very hour, we still haven't recovered my purse. My camera, wallet, watch, keys, money, SS card, drivers permit, health care card, and everything else that was in there is still in somebody else's hands.
It was really upsetting at first, and still is. I had a really bad outlook on things when everything first started unrolling in front of my eyes--that is, until my friend’s mom said that this guy, whoever he is, had NO idea that when he stole my purse, he was unleashing a bunch of prayer warriors after his soul. "Wow!" was the only thing I could think. Not two minutes after the thoughts about wanting to beat this guy up were running though my head--I started praying for this guy’s salvation, and that he would be led to Christ through this seemingly unfortunate event. I'd be thankful if you would start praying for this mans salvation as well.
Soooooo......that's all the excitement for now.
We had lots and lots of fun together, nonetheless.....thanks again, Rye Bread!
This evening we went to the Wednesday night Bible study at our church, and Pastor Andy made a comment that we should shut off our computers, phones, radios etc. for at least one minute a day and just STOP. Stop and listen to God--take time to just be quite and spend time with Him. I've decided that starting at 12:00 tomorrow afternoon, I'm going to quit the computer, phone and radio for a whole week. I think that this will strengthen my relationship with my Lord, and bring me closer to Him. I'll be able to concentrate more fully on Him and ONLY Him. These modern things will just have to be put on hold for a week--while I regain sweet communion with my Father.
Many blessings and until next week, Tessa

• Mar. 5, 2009 - The Cutest Birthday Gift EVER
You'll never guess what my grandparents sent me for my birthday this year--it was the CUTEST thing I've ever seen! My grandma (the crafty thing!) made them herself. She is SO talented!
*THIS PICTURE HAS BEEN REMOVED TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW ONES*
Are they not the most adorable things??
*THIS PICTURE HAS BEEN REMOVED TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW ONES*
Yes, yes. My dear grandma is so talented.
*THIS PICTURE HAS BEEN REMOVED TO MAKE ROOM FOR NEW ONES*
Aw. Picture perfect. Their names are still undecided.
By now you've probably gathered that I love hippos. I collect them--they are so much fun!! Actually, it was my uncle that got me started on it. He had collected them for awhile, then when he was moving, he gave his collection to me. Ever since then, I've had a sincere liking for anything "hippoish"! Did I mention that these two fun most amazing nicest neatest birthday gifts are huggable--oh yes, they are tons of joy to hug. I have such a great family. Who else, tell me now, who else in this whole wide world would think to make these most adorable creations?? Not me, for sure. I had hinted at wanting a hippo for my birthday last year, so my mummy dearest and my sir papa gave me a felt hippo in a jewlery box--they named him George. I still have him. Then this year, I mentioned to my grandmummy that I would like a hippo, and lo and behold! The wonderful UPS truck pulled up our driveway and handed me a wonderfully big box! Oh the joy!! Boxes are the bestest!! You should have seen my utter surprise and joy at pulling out first a lovely pink hippo, and then a handsome quilted one--oh yes. My family knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, how to make me happy. Hippos and me just kind of go together, you know? |

• Feb. 21, 2009 - This is Really Important!
I heard about this through an Above Rubies e-newsletter. I thought this was a great idea, and I encourage each of you who read this to follow through, post this on your own blog and even forward it through e-mail. The more people who hear, the better chance we have or making a point to President Obama.
This afternoon I was praying about a number of things, and my mind began to wander. I was deeply distressed at the symbolic actions that President Obama took as he began his presidency. Namely, that he signed executive orders releasing funds to pay for abortions, permission to fund human stem cell research, and federal funding for contraception. I have been involved in the pro-life movement for nearly 20 years, and it pained my heart to see a man and a political party committed to the shedding of innocent blood. This man, and this party lead our country, but they do not represent me or the 54% of Americans who believe that abortion is wrong and should no longer be legal.
As I was praying, I believe that God gave me an interesting idea. Out in the garage I have a box of red envelopes. Like the powerful image of the red LIFEtape, an empty red envelope will send a message to Barack Obama that there is moral outrage in this country over this issue. It will be quiet, but clear.
Here is what I would like you to do:
Get a red envelope. (You can buy them at Kinkos, or at party supply stores.) In the front, address it to:
President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, D.C.
On the back, write the following message:
This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility begins with conception.
Put it in the mail, and send it. |

• Feb. 13, 2009 - A Thought to Think On....
Have you ever thought about the fact that every moment you spend with your little brothers and sisters impacts their life forever? I was thinking about this today, and I wanted to share a few of my thoughts with my readers.
You know, when I really think about it, how many times a day do I sharply reply to one of my little ones? How often do I ignore them when they are trying to show me one of their creations? Much too often if you ask God. I know God wants me to be kind and love my brothers and sisters with all my heart, and I do...it's the showing part of it that's hard! I mean, sometimes little ones can be hard to deal with and very naughty...but as a big sister my duty is to love them and speak to them kindly. This takes a lot of patience and much grace.
Grace is described in Websters dictionary as: an act or instance of kindness. This is something to remember and ask God for next time we are explaining the reason we do not sit on our sister all the while telling her it is just for fun. We all need more grace in our lives in every part of it. Whether it is simply cooking dinner or biting your tongue when your little brother says something hurtful, we need to always respond with grace and act with utmost kindness towards the ones we claim to love so much.
God put you in your family for His own reasons. He put me in my family for His own reasons. We need to be content and plant ourselves where He has placed us and prayerfully and diligently flourish where He has put us! Our families need us! Our little brothers and sisters want out love more than anything, we need to give it to them. Young ladies and young men need to turn their hearts towards God and in return towards our earthly fathers. We need to live our lives as stay at home daughters they way God has intended for our lives to be lived. God loves you! He wants your life to be lived for Him, honoring to Him, and most of all completely given over to Him in every area, in every way.
In their book called So Much More, the Botkin sisters explain the meaning of the verse in the Bible that says: "That out daughters may be as cornerstones, polished after the similitude of a palace." Psalms 144:12b
They explain it like this: "The role of a cornerstone or a corner pillar is very important. Websters 1828 dictionary defines a pillar as: "2. A supporter; that which sustains or upholds; that on which some superstructure rests." Think of your father, your mother, your family as being this superstructure. It rests, in a large part, on you, whether you know it or not. A building is only as strong as that which supports it. A daughter can make or break her family."
I ask you, dear friends, please think on this important subject and ask God to give you grace as you live your life as the sister He has intended you to be. |
