Training Hearts Pledge

We are a Christian family desiring to raise our children with the primary focus of Training their Hearts.

• "I have no greater joy, than to hear my children walk in truth. III John 1:4

• "Train up the child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

• "Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always so that it might go well with them and their children forever!" Deuteronomy 5:29

Blogger Friend School Assignment #8-Share Dirty Laundry

Posted in Blogger Friend School

Part A - Share about your family’s laundry.

Where is it kept? In the laundry room pictured below. What is that coffee cannister and cup doing on the dryer? Read on and you will find out. I have two hampers in the laundry room right as you enter the door to the left. I have tried many other ways like each child having their own hamper/basket in their rooms. This did not work for our household. The clothes seem to pile up much faster and instead of putting dirty clothes only in the hamper/basket I was rewashing clean clothes that had never been worn. I am blessed when the clothes actually make it into the hampers instead of on the floor directly in front of them. Anyone know what I am talking about there???

Who does it? Well, we have a chore list posted on my fridge. I printed it out on the pc onto a full page magnet sheet. Each day a different child has the laundry (laundry room cleaning included). I am the only one who washes due to many discolored clothes in the past. My boys (all four..lol) didn't like all the undies being pink in color after one of (nobody knows who) did the washing. Each child has this chore. When it is their turn to do the laundry it includes hanging dry or placing in dryer, folding and placing on hangers. The clothes are then placed on the family members bed to who thay belong. It is then their duty to put the clothes away in their proper place. Does this always get done correctly? Ummm......no. However we keep on tugging at it one day at a time.

How does your family sort it? Sort??? What is that??? No really, I know this is terrible but we sort as we go. The reason for the two hampers is one for whites and the other for colors. However, this never seems to get done so I admit defeat in this area . I try and pick my battles wisely and have decided that this one, well... is not worth the effort of fighting anymore.

Do you wash by hand?  Only if I have to .

Hang clothes on the clothesline?  Can You define clothesline to me? I once had one of those but my husband took it down. He does not like the way it looks! So, we have this large fenced in area far in the back corner of our property. Well was used to house our goats that have since been given away or cooked...I know thats terrible. Anyway, I can hang up to 5 large loads of clothes over that tall fence so this is what I use to hang my clothes on. I suppose that looks better than a clothesline . The days that the weather doesn't want to cooperate with me, I use a rod inside my laundry room and the dryer. Also in the evening I will use my chairs in the kitchen or in the classroom, ...whatever works .

Make your own laundry soap?  Yes I do. Now I have just started this and only made two double batches of this stuff so far. I use a recipe I found at http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/laundrysoap.htm  by Crystal Miller. There are a lot of recipes that popped up when I did a search but this one had step by step pics HERE so I chose to try it first. LOL, I am such a visual learner. I have tweaked it a bit and added fabric softner after it sits for about 16-24 hrs. I make a double batch, it last longer and like I dsaid before...lots of laundry here. I  believe I will continue as long as I am able to do so. It works great, cleans the clothes as well as the Gain I was using before and I add liquid fabric softner to the batchy after it has turned to a soup like gel. The clothes are soft, clean and smell good. I am also saving a load of money due to the fact I do a lot of laundry here.

So, what is in that coffee cannister on the dryer? it is filled with homemade laundry soap and the cup next to it, you guessed it...is the cup I use for each load. Yes, I recycle as many of the plastic containers as I can. My hubby even uses these containers for his work stuff like nails, spacers for tile and such. A penny saved is a penny earned, you know that old saying . We have a load of these cannisters...I drink way to much coffee.

This is a pic of the soap about 3 hrs after making it. I keep it in a 5 gallon bucket (recylced from my husbands flooring business) next to the washer. I do cover it with a towel and keep a plastic rod inside of it to stir between washes.

Part B - Do you have an area in your life that you know that the Lord is tugging at some heart strings that needs to be cleaned up? Have a testimony of your past struggle(s) that might help another homeschooling mom? Share a piece of your heart (dirty laundry) that you are seeking a good washing or how it got cleaned up. Sharing with one another is a great way to have your post feel human and real.

Hmmm. Wow, so much dirty laundry. You know I never did like, still don't like to look into that laundry room and see load upon load of dirty laundry . The odor from unclean laundry is a very nasty one. I surely do not want friends to come by, unexpected at that, and catch a whif of the stench coming from behind the laundry room door due to me not tending to my dirty laundry as promptly as I should.

I look at unforgiveness like this dirty laundry. It stinks and if left to long, no matter if it is behind a closed door, hidden away, tucked under the bed or in the closet, sooner or later that hidden thing gives off a stench that nothing can mask or hide. Glade is good ladies but not that good . Nothing can mask the stench left from an unforgiving heart .

I struggled for years with unforgiveness for things unspeakable done to me as a child. I held onto the pain, the thoughts, the memories. Then one day, the Lord released into me the power of forgiveness. Man oh man, did I ever do laundry that day. Maybe I should say, He did my laundry for me. He took a heart filled with hate, malice and unforgiveness and washed it in His blood making the stains of my past dissappear. He created in me a clean heart and from that day forward I have purposed to forgive whatever deeds are done against me. Why? His Word in so many places tells me to. I can not have a good relationship with Him if my heart is filled with unforgiveness. I can not have a right spirit towards Him or others with an unclean heart. Do I still struggle? Well of course I do, I am human. This my dear ladies is a daily cleansing. I must do laundry in my heart everyday just like here at home. Some days I wash in the morning while other days it's laundry after the house and every one in it is sleeping. Sometimes the washer is set on a small load then there are those days that I have set back and allowed the dirty laundry (unforgiveness) to pile up and I must switch that control to wash an extra large load. Praise God He has the best detergent to clean even the heaviest of soiled garments! It's color crimson red. The scent sweeter than any aroma you can imagine nothing can compare. Oh and no need to add the softner to it, It is all in Him.  He takes that and with it washes me white as snow.

Part C - FIND a scripture this week that pertains to this assignment to help you with your laundry and share it this week.

Psalms 51  7-10 "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."

Be blessed

Stacy

Your writing is wonderful! And how you used the physical laundry as parallels to our spiritual laundry was excellent! Thanks for sharing!

What a well written post. I enjoyed reading about how your family does laundry and how God has cleansed your heart. Praise God that He loves us like he does! He never gives up on us!

I just thought I would mention that I have a laundry/hanging organizer. It has three fabric bags and in one goes whites, another, coloreds and distowels and the last one jeans/dark clothes. I am so very pleased with it.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Stacy, nice to meet you.. About your scripture verse, you said (sorry, God said) "Purge me with Hyssop." Have you ever smelled Hyssop? I recently purchased a set of anointing oils from www.abbaoil.com and one of the oils was hyssop. I'll have to go back and re-read that scripture, and breath in the scent of the hyssop oil.. and I too will remember to forgive..as I have been forgiven.

Bless you, Shalom
Sombra

That is a great Idea about putting something over the dryer. What is it that you put on there? I would like to put something like that on my dryer.
