I just love finding those quotes that say things like "a messy desk is a sign of genius" and "Clutter is just evidence that Learning is going on....." (just made that up....) Or how about: "Don't move that peice of paper or my whole life will be ruined!!!!"
Can you tell where this blog is headed?
So, why am I so worried about this? Well, "Suzy Homemaker" is not my middle name, and organization is not my strong point. I am a strict proponent of a "lifestyle" of learning, but I constantly struggle to make sure things are structured----but have rarely, if ever achieved it. I won't go as far as to say I am "ADHD" or any of those lables, but I might say that I am left brained and abstract random----or something like that.
Let me give you an example:
I used to work in a job where I had to file lots of things, alphabetically, (duh) for several hours each day. And I used to get bored with the same old ABCDEFG stuff, so..................I would jump around a bit. I would do the A's then go over to F's for a little while. Then maybe back to B's, then S's..............I got the job done, but just not in the usual pattern.
One day my boss was watching me and she said "Nancy, what in the world are you doing?" So, I told her I was bored with the alphabet. It was getting monotonous, and I was jumping around a bit. Mind you, I got the work done......maybe not as quickly---but still the same. She gently but firmly reminded me that it was supposed to be done in order. That was that.
So........now, what was I saying???? Oh, yeah. I get easily distracted. Not just here on my blog, haha. I get distracted at home, while homeschooling, while cleaning, while working. I just do.
But God is faithful to help me, and keep me on track. And He puts people and information in my path to help me also. Take this blog entry for instance: Virginia Knowles. She is a really neat lady who wrote a wonderful article for Chapel, back in the Fall 2004 issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. I was thoroughly blessed by it. I found her blog entry about finding some structure, and ways to get things done. I hope you will go and read it and it will bless you as much as it did me. It is full of WONDERFUL ideas.
The important thing for me, and you also if you are a bit "creative" with your homeschooling style---(but who isn't!) remember this: God can do amazing things with a willing person. He will help you in ALL that you are doing, and He can help you to educate your kids in the best manner possible, by you and your spouse, with His help.
Even if your alphabet is in a different order than then one on the file cabinet!
Nancy
