The weird looking stuff that was under the siding, when we pulled the trim off was the remnants of last years leaf cutter bees nests. Here is a super article about them!
One day my youngest daughter saw the bees carrying something yellow and watched them go into the gap in the trim. She came racing in to tell me. That time, the bee had a perfect little circle of yellow. A petal from a coreopsis or a sunflower. So we watched them and they made a "bee-line" from the garden and back, to the house. They cut lovely little circles out of the rose leaves and carried them the hole in the house, behind the trim. And here, they created their lovely little chambers to lay their eggs in.
So, WalkinFaith, you were the only one who knew! Good for you :)
Although fungus and lichen were pretty, um.....interesting (but wrong) guesses, Dianna and Julie, LOL! (I still love you.)
Ok, so I will get to the rest as soon as I can!
Blessings! Thanks for visiting!
