I figure each of those fence boards are about four inches wide, so.....he's not quite as long as I thought. El Serpiente is about 20 inches long I would say. His tail is just out of the photo.
I think he is a variety of Garter snake, (no, not a Gardener snake. Everyone keeps calling them that. Cut it out! GARTER.) Ok, so let me know if you can positively I.D. him, ok???
We've found a few snakes in our area and have been able to identify them by a site I found by typing in KY Snakes into a search engine. If one of your blogging buddies can't help, you might try to see if you can find a helpful Colorado snake website. The one we found had great photos and described their habitat and feeding. Twas very interesting.
Also... you could possibly take your digital photo into a local pet store. Years ago a neighbor called my husband frantically to come and kill a snake by her back door since her hubby was out of town. He obliged and it was such an odd snake that we'd never seen before that we set about describing it to everyone. One day he was at a pet store and described the snake that he "saw" and the owner quickly told him what a wonderful pet snake that type was and how some owner was probably looking for it. UGH! Somehow that just seemed irrelevant when our neighbor was freaking out and wondering if this snake would lurk around and bite one of her small children!
Just another adventure for a homeschooling family!
Blessings,
Nancy
Welcome to my blog. How nice of you to drop in.
What is this all about you say? Well, take a look and see.
Just like the plants springing forth we are following the Son, soaking up the living water and pulling the weeds. We can't wait to see what will bloom THIS growing season!
Oh, and just for fun, I will tell you a little about me, since that is what this space is for. :)
I am a mother of four lovely kids who are perfectly human in every way. They are sinful, selfish, loving, happy, grumpy, excited, capable, frustratable, (I know, that isn't a word but sometimes I make up my own) and sometimes contrite, and just like their parents.
But they are ours and we think they are all keepers!
We have homeschooled them all since birth with the trial and error method. I think they all have "made the grade" and they are now 16, 13, 11 and 9 years old.
We're not experts, except in the area of making mistakes and living to tell about them and hopefully learn from them!
We hope you will find some encouragement here as you read about the seasons of our life as a homeschooling family.
