A couple of nights ago, my 7 yo son jumped up into my lap---and he's a big "little" guy, and a bit like a bull in a china closet, all boy, boisterous, loud, cute, but sometimes too forceful. As he was jumping into my lap to give me a hug, he jabbed my ear with his thumbnail. Ouch. I kind of jumped and sqeeked, and when I said that he hurt my ear he reached up and held his hand on it.
We recently saw this "clay-aminmation" movie of the life of Christ, and to tell you the truth---a friend gave it to us for Christmas last year, and we never watched it. I thought "gross." But I was pleasantly surprised when we finally popped it in the VCR. IT was well done, although a bit hard visually, to watch. The way it was staged was good, and the message was very clear.
Josh remembered the part where Jesus healed the ear of the man who was struck with the sword--remember? When they were coming to arrest Jesus, and He had told his disciples to put down their weapons. But was it Peter who struck the guard? I need to go re-read it, anyway, he didn't listen to Jesus, and tried to protect Him with the sword.
So Jesus reached over and healed the ear. (Josh said there was probably glue on the ear, and Jesus just put it back on---in the MOVIE, that is...)
I asked Josh "why did Jesus heal the mans ear? " (Thinking he would say, so it wouldn't hurt anymore, or something....)
But he said "so the man would listen to Him, and HEAR what HE had to say."
My prayer for ALL of us, here at home and all of you out there in the blogosphere and YOUR families: Have Hearing ears today. Jesus wants to talk to you!
Turning up my hearing aid :)
