Hair Cutting

• Nov. 15, 2005 - I can only take credit for giving birth to her, that is IT.

My dd wore her new creation to enrichment classes today.  It was our last class of the "semester." And she wanted to wear what she sewed yesterday.  Here is a photo of the complet outfit, she made a hat bow and a drawstring purse.  I think I am getting the short end of the stick here---I DID teach her some hand sewing when she was about 4---and I DID show her how the sewing machine worked---after getting over the fear that she might sew through her thumb or something......but other than giving birth to her, that is about it.  She is just who she is by God's grace, and she learns how to do these things inspite of my best laid plans.

Today, she made a lovely apron for her little sister who will be the "maid" at the quilting bee she has planned.  I need to take photos of it still.

You know what I really love about homeschooling?  My kids are NOT blank slates.  God put the coding in---it's called DNA.  It is called personality.  It is called inner bent.  (Well, that and GHP, or "God's Holy Spirit.)  He designed them to do what they do-do.....sorry, I just stole that from Ken Ham.  No matter what we try to do, they are going to be what they are meant to be, in spite of our help or interference.

Sure, we are the best teachers they have or God wouldn't have given them to us, but let's teach and train them in the ways of God and let them become who they were meant to be.......not who WE think they should be or the way WE think they should go etc, etc.

Happy Homeschooling!

Proud Mom, learning to keep her hands off and learn to say YES not no.

N.

Thanks for posting a picture!! And to think that your dd sewed this without a pattern--I am impressed! My attempts at dressmaking have not turned out as wonderful--at least now I get the sleeves on right side out. :)

Your daughter looks so precious in that modest, feminine style of dress she made.
I'm amazed at her skill as she is young! I'm still learning to sew as a grown up.
She has a gift and you are letting her run with it. Good for you!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and alerting me to the pictures of your daughter's new dress---it's so pretty! How cool that she made it without a pattern. I called my dd(14) in to see it and she loved it :)

The fact that your daughter made it without a pattern brings back memories for me. Years ago, there was a tv show called "Here Comes the Brides." It was about the mail order brides shipped to Seattle for the loggers---it took place during the 19th century. My three sisters and I loved that show. As the oldest and the only one who knew how to sew, I decided to make long skirts for all of us, just like the girls on the show wore. I convinced my grandma to give me her old bedroom curtains (red and pink cabbage roses!) instead of throwing them out, and made skirts for all of us---we would put them on after school and play "Here Come the Brides."

Tell your daughter she did a great job----and brought back a nice memory too!

Take care,
Barb

About Me

Hi There!

Welcome to my blog.
How nice of you to drop in. What is this all about you say? Well, take a look and see.

Just like the plants springing forth we are following the Son, soaking up the living water and pulling the weeds. We can't wait to see what will bloom THIS growing season!

Oh, and just for fun, I will tell you a little about me, since that is what this space is for. :)

I am a mother of four lovely kids who are perfectly human in every way. They are sinful, selfish, loving, happy, grumpy, excited, capable, frustratable, (I know, that isn't a word but sometimes I make up my own) and sometimes contrite, and just like their parents. But they are ours and we think they are all keepers!

We have homeschooled them all since birth with the trial and error method. I think they all have "made the grade" and they are now 16, 13, 11 and 9 years old.

We're not experts, except in the area of making mistakes and living to tell about them and hopefully learn from them! We hope you will find some encouragement here as you read about the seasons of our life as a homeschooling family.
