OH, man. I have this fear that some of my family members are going to read my blog and find out how truly insane I am. But what the hey!
I just read a really neat blog entry about hunting :) and decided I had better finish up my hunting blogs before somebody comes over here to read them and they aren't there. (Did that make sense?)
Now, lets see. We went hunting a few weeks back, and we didn't get anything.....but we saw some cool stuff, and enjoyed the fire and you know, for the life of me I can't remember what else I was going to share about the trip. How ridiculous.
But I will tell you this. I used to DESPISE hunting. I thought it was ridiculous and selfish that my husband wanted to go hunting. It was unfair. I used to be so selfish about anything my husband wanted to do with out me. But you know what? I wish I would have been a lot smarter back then and enjoyed it right along with my husband, and not been such a jerk and a cry baby.
You know what else? Guys like to have fun and they like to get out and do stuff like hunt and fish and hike and get dirty.....and we need to be out there with them having fun and enjoying them enjoying themselves! If you have the right attitude, they won't want to "escape" from you and go off with the guys. If you are fun to be with and not a grouch, they will be thrilled that you will go with them. Really! Be adventuresome. Be a blessing to your husband. Did you do some fun things when you were courting and getting to know each other? Didn't you go for long walks, talk into the wee hours, laugh about everything, do silly stuff? Don't be an old stick in the mud. Have fun!
Ok, so I was just remembering the rest of the hunting trip. It was such a blessing, just having the tent to sweep out, a few dishes to take care of each day and then sitting sketching, or reading, or playing on the rope swing with the kids, (although when I tried to get on it it sunk to the ground....) And watching the kids excavate a fallen tree root---and watching them build lean-to's and try to make a cat-a-pult. And watching them learn how to safely light the fire and cook over it, and splitting logs.......and wishing we lived out in the woods somewhere.....
Sigh.
They day we left it was starting to sleet and I was a bit concerned about getting bogged down out there. We were WAY out in the wilderness---miles of dirt road, near the Wyoming border. So we got kinda wet but got the vehicles packed up and headed home. We made it to Kremmling, and I was SO tired that the three little kids and I got a hotel room and dad drove on home with big sister (three or more hours....) and unloaded, then came back in the morning. He unloaded all my gear from my jeep so I could "see out" and we headed home. Over the Continental Divide, Through the Eisenhower Tunnel. And finally, home sweet home.
There is truly No Place Like Home.
