Homeschooling Is Life! - Summer, summer where did you go? (and a giveaway!)

• Aug. 20, 2009 - Summer, summer where did you go? (and a giveaway!)

*Announcement:  Adena, you are the winner!  Thanks so much for the great comment.  It reminded me a bit of Sampson and Delilah.

Adena, please contact me at nancy baetz at msn dot com --- your download bounced!  If I don't hear from you in about 48 hrs, I'll choose another winner.  Thanks!

Everyone who entered--or not--you are all welcome to a discounted copy of the *prize* Ebook, "Haircuts For Little Men." Just go to my website

Tell a friend!  Enjoy!!!  Offer good till the end of August.  :)

___________________________________________________________________

I can't believe how quickly this summer is zipping by!  We've had so much rain that it never really felt like summer to me.  But instead of discussing the weather, again, just a quick update on our homeschooling progress and then on to the giveaway!

To tell you the truth, stuff happens so quickly here at home that I just don't even have time to chronicle all of them, at least as much as I used to.  My oldest daughter has a part time job now, and it is very exciting!  She is learning to be an ABA Therapist, and she really loves it.  She is also taking a class at the local community college on a scholarship she won (for her photography) in the county fair.  You can search ABA therapy on your favorite search engine.  :)  For a great book to read on a family who is going through autism, read Facing Autism by Lynn Hamilton.

We are planning for a big celebration later this year for her 18th birthday/homeschooling celebration and I certainly am up for any great ideas anyone might want to send my way!  How have YOU celebrated your child's homeschooling "career" without a cap and gown type of graduation ceremony?  I'd love to hear from you!

My younger three children are off and running too...in many different directions.  They still amaze me with all of their interests and abilities, and I am still trying to get "my ideas" of education into those thick I mean sweet little heads of theirs.  My oldest son is working hard to move up the ranks in Scouts and hopefully get his Eagle Scout in the future.  I've got a singer on my hands who needs an outlet for that...and we are working on getting her into a chorale.  My youngest would just love it if he could do experiments with magnets all day...or basically any kind of hands-on science.  That and cooking.

Right now while I am grabbing a few moments at the computer my girls are cleaning fiber--Navajo Churro wool that was given to them.  It is gorgous when it is all cleaned and washed!  My youngest daughter is working on some grammar work, well, she was earlier.  The days go so fast and it seems like we never get everything that I want to do finished.  My blest laid plans.  LOL!

Between those things and our upcoming art show, and the fact that our van is broken down and various other "opportunities" that have knocked on our door lately, I guess I will just repeat my motto:

Homeschooling Is Life!

Nancy

P.S. Can't forget about the giveaway!  And a hearty THANKS to Molly over at Econobusters for mentioning this. I'm giving away yet another copy of my eBook "Haircuts For Little Men."

Anyone who comments will be entered.  Actually, I will give two more of these away before the end of the month.  Usually I just pick some random comment, sometimes I give one away to EVERYONE who comments, depending on my mood.  This time, if you make me LAUGH a whole bunch, you will be the one.  I always need a laugh, or two or three.  I have to have a way to contact you too, or check back often so you can see if you won!

p.s. if you have never heard of "Haircuts For Little Men," it is an eBook tutorial on how to do a simple, basic haircut for the little (and big) guys in your life.  Just check out my website:  nancybaetz.com and read about it for yourself.  Save money, have fun learning a new skill!  And win a copy for FREE right here.

OH!! How I needed this book last week!! My two year old somehow managed to cut his hair with scissors that I gave up cutting coupons with they were so dull!! He sat on my bed and cut his hair right on the very top and right down to the scalp. We had to resort to almost a buzz cut to help disguise it. What was funny though was his older brother was laying on the bed taking a nap. To get him to finally wake up I told him "oh my, Jeremiah has cut your hair while you were sleeping. He didnt' believe me until he barely opened an eye and saw hair all over the bed. You've never seen a kid wake up so fast!! LOL

I was so excited to see this book on Molly's website! I currently have 2 little men (ages 3 and 17 months) and another little man on the way in December!! I have thought about doing home haircuts to save money as we are going from having my part-time income as a public school teacher to my husband's income as I transition home. The thought of messing up someone's hair (especially if I cut my husband's!) is terrifying! Hope I get a chance to read this and see if I can really do it!!

Yesterday at church my little man (the youngest of 5 children and the only boy) told a little girl and her mother that he looked like a girl and needed a haircut "real bad"! Just a little embarrassing for me!
:-) I've always been able to cut the girl's hair, but his hair is intimidating to me. Very blonde, very fine. So I take him to the only salon in our little town. But being the only one in town, it takes a while to get in. :-) So, I'm entering for my son's sake - maybe I can learn to do his hair with a little help from your ebook! :-) Thanks!

• Aug. 24, 2009 - Haircut Anyone?

Posted by Anonymous
My husband FINALLY agreed to let me cut the boys' hair. When my son was younger I tried my hand at this. It was real bad, but I didn't realize how bad until people started coming up to me and asking if my son was a cancer patient. OK, I cut it a little short. Well, I am older and wiser now, so it will be better. Let's not talk about our Orlando trip recently. I have 225 pictures of my two boys with three tiered haircuts. I think I need some help. "Honey, are you ready for me to try it on you now? Honey? Honey? Where'd you go?"

My dh has been hinting about me learning to cut hair. He keeps saying it will save us a ton of money. The funny thing about that is that he's the one who tries to keep the thermostat at 72 in the summer and 80 in the winter. I guess we need to conserve money on haircuts so we can continue to see polar bears in the summer and wear shorts in the winter!

• Aug. 24, 2009 - Two weeks

Posted by Joyous
I always have much more confidence going into a hair cut than coming out. I began to cut my husband's hair when we were newly married and first caught on that maybe my efforts were not so great when one of his friends asked me if I knew the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut - two weeks! Unfortunately that two week rule has been pretty much true since that time. My husband's hair has long since disappeared and I don't think I can take any credit for that. He's happy to just take the clippers and shave what's left off. He says losing his hair is one of the best things that happened because it's so easy to care for. I'm sure he's also grateful that he does not have to put up with my haircuts any longer.

Now I have a son who endures my haircuts. Sometimes they turn out better than others but the two week rule usually still applies. He's gotten used to wearing baseball caps most of the time. We were not blessed with any of that curly forgiving hair. No, in our house all hair is completely straight and ready to show off every little (and big) mistake. So please for the sake of our vanity send me a copy of your e-book.

I've been cutting my 3 sons' hair for years, with widely varying degrees of success... just ask them! It would be great if I could learn a technique that yielded more consistent results. My husband has even hinted that if I get more skilled with the scissors he might stay home for his haircuts. Nothing very humorous about my post, but then my sons would tell you that there's nothing very humorous about the haircuts they sometimes end up with! :-))

We have four boys and I always cut their hair to save money(my husband will only let me shave his neck). Two double crowns, two thin heads, and two thick heads(no pun intended). I can do military cuts, but when it comes to a longer cut they never come out the same. My husband would love for me to get this giveaway!

I'm so glad to hear that your daughter is planning to work in the field of autism. Both of my sons have Asperger's Syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder. This is my opinion alone, but I feel that you cannot achieve the level of patience that is required to work with our dear children unless you are taught in a relaxed environment...home.

I would dearly love to learn how to cut my little guys' hair, and would enjoy a copy of your ebook. However, I am mostly interest in thanking you for sending a "worker into the fields white with harvest". So few are out there now.

When my 4 boys were littlest, I tried to save our family money by cutting their hair. The result was an uneven disaster. My husband took one look and "relieved" me of that responsibility. Now he either cuts it or takes them to a salon. I would love to restore my reputation by winning this book of tips on how to do it right!

I think I can make you laugh! I have 2 sons one who I need to take care of for hair cuts still and one who is grown. When my oldest was about 3 years old he went into my bathroom and decided to put my Nair hair remover in his hair. I mean all over and I did not discover this in a timely matter. So he had bald patches all over. To make matters worse he decided to cut his own hair the very next day. It was horrible and he looked like a chemo paitent for a really long time. Let me tell you the stares we would get when we went out in public were priceless! Well it sure is fun to laugh about now. Kids ya gotta love em!

The other day my daughter was given a baby doll with brown hair. She has never had one before and amused us all greatly when she announced, "Baby has chocate on her head!" Regarding the giveaway, I would love to learn how to actually do a proper haircut on my not so little man (my husband) and any sons the Lord should choose to give us. :)

Bubblegum, bubblegum, bubblegum....enough said!!!
While at summer camp, my son decided to do a hand stand while chewing a piece of bubble gum. While yelling, "look at me, look at me", in the upside down postion, the gum decided to leap out of his mouth and roll down his face until coming to a complete halt at the base of his hairline. What is the best way to remove bubblegum from your son's hair? Cutting it out, unfortunately. Not peanut butter, nor ice would make that gum budge! He has since started his new homeschool season with a smart looking military cut - which he's hoping will grow out very soon! LOL

About Me

Hi There!

Welcome to my blog.
How nice of you to drop in. What is this all about you say? Well, take a look and see.

Just like the plants springing forth we are following the Son, soaking up the living water and pulling the weeds. We can't wait to see what will bloom THIS growing season!

Oh, and just for fun, I will tell you a little about me, since that is what this space is for. :)

I am a mother of four lovely kids who are perfectly human in every way. They are sinful, selfish, loving, happy, grumpy, excited, capable, frustratable, (I know, that isn't a word but sometimes I make up my own) and sometimes contrite, and just like their parents. But they are ours and we think they are all keepers!

We have homeschooled them all since birth with the trial and error method. I think they all have "made the grade" and they are now 17, 14, 12 and 10 years old.

We're not experts, except in the area of making mistakes and living to tell about them and hopefully learn from them! We hope you will find some encouragement here as you read about the seasons of our life as a homeschooling family.
