Greetings from the cave~ (my office needs a major make-over....)
Hmmmm, I have been accused of writing a bit too much on my blog, and I can understand that not everyone has a lot of time to read blogdissertations, but would just appreciate a true blog. Ok, like someone once said, a blog is short and sweet. So here you go:
Yesterday, we went to an air show. We went to this same airshow, five years ago, but that time it was a sweltering day, and we had kids in strollers still, and they wanted $4.00 for one lousy itty bitty hamburger, and the only shade was under the wings of a B-52 bomber and it was absolutely NUTS, and when hubby said he would like to go this weekend I thought, "again?"
So we did. This time, it was freezing, and we dressed for Summer. So after we drove to the air base, and went through security, rode a bus for eons to get to the tarmack, watched some C-2 -38/15's (Heh, heh--I don't know anything about aircraft....) and froze. (It was really cold. Snowing on Pikes Peak even.) Weird Colorado Weather.
It really was neat, though. Even though we were freezing. This one jet had this vapor stuff (sorry for all this technical jargon) that came out the wing tips and he did huge loops and then the vapor trails made clovers that he flew back through......try to imagine :) Anyway, after watching that, my 10 year old son said he didn't want to drive NASCAR anymore. Too tame for him! (OK, after searching for info on this performance, I finally found out it was Herb and Ditto---here's the link for the photo I took of them flying through the vapor rings---I think you will like it.:)
SO THEN, we decided we were TOO cold and we remembered we had a bunch of boxes in the back of the van of stuff we were donating....so we walked to the bus, rode back to the parking area, went through security, arrived back at the van and dug through old clothing and found something warm for all of us to put on except Dad. Then we did everything in reverse and were back on the tarmack waiting for the finale......the THUNDERBIRDS!!!!
We are fortunate to live close to the airbase, and have seen the Thunderbirds "rehearse" on several occassions. You always hear them before you see them when you are inside the house.....duh. But at the airfield, you see them first and then the sound screams by you and you cover your ears and shriek back!
They have this one manuver that I must tell you before I end this short blog :)
Three of the jets come screaming over the crowd in formation and while we are still amazed and staring after them with our ears plugged ( all several thousand of us and our closest friends,) from OUT OF NOWHERE, a fourth jet zooms over us, coming from behind us as we are all still looking at the first three------and HE IS SO LOW you can see the afterburners.......and HE IS SO CLOSE that you SEE him and HEAR him at almost the exact same time......and your hair stands up on end and you have goosebumps all down your neck.....
...
The entire crowd was so shocked and thrilled at the same time, it was almost like "a wave." Except it was in fast motion, and I think everyone laughed and cried over the absolute terror/thrill/fun of the crazy thing.
Whew.

We love the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels. We will see the Blue Angels this weekend!!!!
It is one of our favorite things to do as a family. And we usually hate crowds.
But nothing is more exciting then the fast, loud, jets!!!
And the manuver you describe is our favorite too!!!
Wooohoooo!!!
ROAR!
