I suppose that is a loaded question, since you might not know what I am referring to, and we could talk quite about about "being ready for WHAT?"

But I'd like to introduce you to the "Totally Ready" blog.  Carolyn, the publisher over at Totally Ready has a site all about being prepared and ready for anything that might come your way.  In our crazy economic times, it is so good to think about being prepared; prepared to take care of yourself and your family.

I very pleased that she has chosen to be prepared in an area that concerns me, and that may seem like a simple thing--learning to cut hair at home.  She has a very nice review of my Ebook on home haircutting and you can read what she has to say right here!

"Haircuts For Little Men" is not just about cutting hair.  It is about self sufficiency, learning a new life-skill, less stress and saving money!

Just for fun, and maybe you could get your kids in on this "economics lesson," Mom, how much can you save in a year by learning to do haircuts at home?  Turn this into a lesson!  And then comment and tell me what you came up with and how.  I'll pick a winner and give away a free copy of "Haircuts For Little Men."

Blessings!

Nancy

 A review for you!

Learning For Life; Educational Words of Wisdom

Compiled and Edited by Teri Ann Berg Olsen

Knowledge House

Do you love words? Do you appreciate and seek out wise sayings?  Are you often wishing you had just the right expression or quote to illustrate a point in your writing or Homeschooling?  Well, look no further!  Teri Ann Berg Olson, the founder of Knowledge House Learning Resource Center has put her love of words and books together and compiled a superb collection of quotations.  Learning For Life; Educational Word of Wisdom is a resource that belongs on every homeschooler’s desk.

Teri’s heart for research naturally led her to discover many meaningful quotes and thoughts which she collected for years.  She began assembling them into a collection with a book in mind……only to have many challenges and setbacks crop up!  She persevered and has compiled a wonderful selection of thoughts from many individuals from all walks of life and from past to present.

A unique factor in this volume is the biographical information gleaned about each author.  I know in the past, I have used quotations from people which seemed to stand on its own merits; only to discover the speaker was of questionable character.  Using Teri’s biographical information will enhance the background information for the user.

This unique reference volume begins with an obvious high place of wisdom, Scripture.  Following that are sections dealing with education, teaching, study, learning, family, and many others!  She includes the biographical listings and an appendix, and also lists the sources alphabetically.  Although she writes in her after word that there is no way to ever include all the quotes she has discovered,  she has done a marvelous job of putting this together in a well thought out, well organized way.  She even has an interactive section of her website so you can find additional quotes not included in her book, or even submit your own suggestions.

Teri also is the author of many articles and has a tremendous website chock full of information for homeschoolers all over, and also specific information for Arizona Homeschooling families.  (Be sure to spend time perusing her other creative endeavors!)

We have our Bibles, our Dictionaries, and our Thesaurus.  Then there is our style book and maybe even our Bartlett ’s Familiar Quotations; but if you are a homeschooling family, Learning For Life is the reference book that is missing from your collection.  Don’t go another day without it!  Each page will add to your wisdom and knowledge, and as the saying goes:  “The best treasure that a man can attain unto in this world is true knowledge.”  ~Jacob Boehme.  (P. 257, Learning For Life)

About Me

Hi There!

Welcome to my blog.
How nice of you to drop in. What is this all about you say? Well, take a look and see.

Just like the plants springing forth we are following the Son, soaking up the living water and pulling the weeds. We can't wait to see what will bloom THIS growing season!

Oh, and just for fun, I will tell you a little about me, since that is what this space is for. :)

I am a mother of four lovely kids who are perfectly human in every way. They are sinful, selfish, loving, happy, grumpy, excited, capable, frustratable, (I know, that isn't a word but sometimes I make up my own) and sometimes contrite, and just like their parents. But they are ours and we think they are all keepers!

We have homeschooled them all since birth with the trial and error method. I think they all have "made the grade" and they are now 17, 14, 12 and 10 years old.

We're not experts, except in the area of making mistakes and living to tell about them and hopefully learn from them! We hope you will find some encouragement here as you read about the seasons of our life as a homeschooling family.
