Biblical Womanhood Every Day

Oct. 23, 2006 - The Ants Go Marching...

In celebration of my new ability to post pictures on my blog (let's hear it for learning something new every day!), I give you:

Our Co-op Studies Ants: A Story in Pictures (Abridged Version)

Being the Ant

The reluctant ant - donning his antenae only after co-op was over

(males are scarce in an ant colony anyway)

Our Esteemed Teacher, Mrs. Brianna,

who enthralled her ant-students

The Ants Go Marching, literally

Ants on a Log, aka Snack Time

(Rebekah ponders: "Should we remove our antenae because now we're Ant Eaters?")

This is abridged because I don't have pictures of the other fun stuff we did - such drawing pictures of the different stages of an ant's life-cycle and then putting them in order or playing a fun ant computer game.  For us, studying ants would not be complete without relating it back to our Fall Homeschool Semester theme: Responsibility.  Mrs. Brianna did an amazing lesson relating the jobs in an ant colony to the jobs that each member of the Body of Christ does. My turn to teach co-op is up next - five weeks on Early Settlers. I only hope I can do as well as my fellow co-op moms, Mrs. Brianna and Mrs. Erin.

Hooray for photos!!
I love seeing all those little Teramorium caespitae scurrying around the house. (Speaking of teaching children Latin, thought I'd try a little. It's Latin for "worker ant." And now... I got nothin.')

We are excitedly awaiting the landing of the Godspeed, the Discovery, and the Susan Constant, upon those blessed shores of Jamestown Settlement.
