Finished My First Ever Dress...

Posted in Home Arts

Well, here's my finished product.  Now before you scream, "I see a tag!!"  I will tell you I did not make the blouse shown underneath the jumper.  I merely made the jumper, the very simplest dress pattern the sales clerk at JoAnn's assured me they had.

Aside from a couple little mini-quilts this is my first sewing accomplishment since that dreaded apron in 7th grade.  No applause necessary, but I really feel like I've participated in the world of domestic arts like Ma Ingalls.  Big stuff for a suburban-turned-homegrown wanabe!  (In one LH episode "Ma" pulled off two whole dresses in one night without a sewing machine.  Me?  hardly!  Let's see, I had the material for 3 years?)  At least it's not sitting up on my closet shelf in the shopping bag anymore, right?

Yeah for you! The dress is darling and the little one in it even more darling! I don't sew, but am toying with the idea. I seem to dabble in a few too many things and am wondering if I should add another. I would love to be able to make little dresses for my little girl.

Way to go!

Good job on the jumper! I know what you mean about the home-ec champ wanabe! that's me! I just found your blog and think that picture of your kids is the most precious!
I have four kids. I have moved a lot as well, we're missionaries in Peru.
Just thought I'd say hi.

That little sweetheart of yours looks adorable in her new jumper! I loved it when my mom sewed dresses for me when I was a little girl. Your little girl looks equally delighted. Way to go!

You did a wonderful job! I hope to do that one day :) By the way, my dog rolls in road kill as well. We can always smell him before he even gets through the gate. He was known as the smelly dog in our neighborhood for a while until we found his source - and that is our good dog!

That is just the sweetest thing. Yeah for you and your 1st sewing project. LH is one of our favorites around here. We have the first season on dvd and the one that you are talking about is on there and we watch it over and over. I wish times were as simple today as they were back then. What patteren did you use, and was it really that easy? I would love to learn how to sew, I have tried several times but I can not get the hang of it. I am thinking about taking a class, I think my biggest problem is not understanding the machine.

I am so glad you finished it! I knew you could do it! Just so you know...you said you liked my knitting patterns...those aren't mine. I'm a novice knitter so it must be someone else :) Let me know if I can answer any other sewing questions on your next project!!! Way to go sista!

AWWWW how darling. The dress is cute too!

LOL about the dreaded 7th grade apron. Ours was a pillow. My sister managed to hang onto hers for YEARS. It is now deceased.

Great job.

I just posted about sewing on my blog. I am impressed! I don't know how to sew patterns. I bought one that was suppose to be for beginners and couldn't figure it out. I love that.

That dress is adorable! I have tips on my blog and website if you're interested in getting your daughter started in sewing. I regularly share projects I do with my four year old grandaughter. Happy Sewing!
