Painting the Memories of Home

Harvest Dinner

Tonight we ate flank steak, corn on the cob, green beans and tomatoes.  And the only thing we bought from the store was the meat!  Right before dinner the boys went out to the garden and gleaned any remaining beans on the bushes, and Sophie gathered ears of corn.  All children shucked and nipped off the bean tips.  Dad grilled, and I cut up the tomatoes just harvested then added a little ranch dressing to them while enjoying a glass of white zin .  First bite was?   Mmm, mmm, good!  Now we just need a cow to milk, eh?

Our very own corn from our garden!!

Aug. 11, 2006 - Praying for a Good Trip for You

Posted by juliejo428

Thanks for introducing yourself on my blog! I just read through your profile and posts, and we have a lot in common. My husband was in the Navy, I love Jane Austen, we have a garden (with absolutely terrible corn compared to yours - it's been DRY here), we homeschool, and we go camping (however, we have a camper, so that connection may not count). I wholly agree with what you had to say about peer time vs. family time, and it is SOOOO hard to be unselfish enough to make that work. I like to think if I'm unselfish with my time with our children now, perhaps they'll be unselfish with their time with me when I'm an old and gray. Also, my sister just visited us, and she has 7 children. Her husband was not able to come along on the trip, so I can glimpse what your camping trip may be like. However, even though it was very busy, we all had a great time being together again, getting to know each other all over again, and making memories that are special. I am praying that you have a wonderful camping trip, full of special memories, and I'm adding you to my "friends" list. If that is not alright, please let me know - I'm not sure of the proper etiquette of adding friends yet.
In Christ,
Julie

Aug. 11, 2006 - aahhh, home grown enjoyment

How wonderful! I almost did a very similar post a week or so ago. Our meat we were eating was even "home-grown" - just not our home, our friends' home. There's such a sense of satisfaction when you are eating your own stuff.
Loved the photos!

Oh, that looks scrumptous! Home-grown food with your favorite flank steak...:) Wow, that corn on the cob looks great! I've been aching for some lately, but alas, I'll have to wait until round two of my awkward teenage braces years are over. :(
It was great spending time with you last night. Now if I could just get that honky-tonk music out of my head!

It looks delicous. Yummy. Making me hungry all over again.

We had some really nice gardens in MD, but for some reason I just can not get into the gardening mode here in FL. My DH has started one and is excited. I'm praying all the fire ants won't eat his harvest.

Enjoy God's splendor!

What a wonderful experience to grow everything you are eating for dinner, with the exception of the flank steak! I can't wait to have my own garden in the spring. I welcome any advice you can give me. I bet your kids are really enjoying their summer there and the garden!

What a yummy looking dinner! Well done on your gardening skills. We were doing well until the drought and then my tomatoes didn't do so hot (we are on well water and it has been running low for a year or so, so we can't water our plants as much as we would like.

I also enjoyed the pictures of the children all excited over school! It's great isn't it!?? We are so blessed!
